Hiring a Wedding Coordinator

Recommended Posts

I am thinking of using Planner 1 Events for our Mexican Fiesta-themed wedding.  I am still waiting to hear from them with a quote for decorations, etc.  I am looking to them for guidance concerning the wedding, because it is so difficult to communicate with the WC at the resort (Ocean Coral and Turquesa).  They take a long time to respond to inquiries, and when they do, there is a tremendous language barrier...

My wedding is In Cancun in April. Josefina Morales of CancunUniqueWeddings.com is my wedding coordinator. She is amazing. Very, very hardworking. A super Type A perfectionist- which is exactly what I wanted with a coordinator. She is VERY well known in Cancun at all of the resorts, is on the "in" with all of the local vendors (linens, decor, flowers, bakers, etc) and will get you the absolute best deals and make sure its perfect. We have actually been down twice to do site reviews and then meet individually with all the vendors. She and I spent a lot of time together and she is a wonderful person aside from her job. You absolutely will not regret working with her!! She is on facebook- just look up Cancun Unique Weddings. You can also email her at [email protected]

I am scared about the process of hiring the wedding coordinator.  I have talked to two, and it seems that no matter what I ask, they always seem to just say they can do it.  Sounds good, but sounds like a total sales job.  They will tell me anything until I get there, and then the real story kicks in.  Kind of wish there was an Angies list or similar.

Cassidy, i am with you there. Try to ask re. possible clients, it is better to talk to their clients that had the wedding already so you can get the honest opinion - on paper all are fantastic, in reality, very few. What i do with my clients who are new is providing them with 3 phone nr or emails of ex clients : ex brides are happy to answer and talk about their wedding... you know how magic that is (or you will know).

Another good tip is skype w the coordinator and see what she/he offers: some are skilled some are greeen... post the right questions and see what they say. I am appalled by the number of new kids coming to Mexico without preparation and starting a wedding planning biz (in Playa there are over 30 new coordinators, some do not even have a website) without guarantees for the clients. Always protect yourself and be cautious, it is a must, but do not let yourselves be stressed, you will find the one that really knows what she is doing and will have the fun and pleasure to lead you to a stress free wedding day.

Best,

Maria

Hello everyone!

You have to ask your wedding planner for testimonial and emails or phone numbers from some of their "happy" brides.

It is a must to do at least one phone call or have a conversation via Skype, there has to be a "click" between you both since your wedding planner will become your ears, eyes and will look always for your interests here!

When I personally look for a certain service I look for academy awards, certificates, diplomas or a career in whatever they are doing in case they have not enough experience.

Also, PLEASE you have to make sure that the photos they are showing you are really theirs and not from the internet or someone else photos, that is a MUST!

In this forum you will find a lot of reliable wedding coordinators:

Besides, there is an association of wedding coordinators in the area (ACIBEP), that is there to help, control, and keep updated all wedding planners in the area.

Good Luck in your search!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
