A: should there be any additional costs for us to go to the wedding being we are not staying at that particular Riu property

If you are staying at one of the  sister Riu hotels, the cost for a day pass to attend her wedding is $45.00 USD per person.  If you were at another resort entirely it would be $100.00 USD per person.

B: she is having a meal so what will the additional costs be fore my family of six *6* to come (realizing meals can vary in price,,,what would the price range be per person being highest cost to lowest cost)

It all depends on what wedding package she picked & whether she is having a semi-private or a private reception...you can peak at tHe Riu Palace Mexico website and review packages....http://www.riu.com/en/Paises/mexico/playa-del-carmen/hotel-riu-palace-mexico/paquetes-de-bodas.jsp

C: Reason for asking these questions is I think she is having a hard time with costs so I would like to pay for our familes meals being we are told they will be extra since we are staying at a different hotel.
That is so very nice & generous of you!

Hello Pamela,

I am getting married at the RIU Palace Riviera Maya on 11/17/12. I have guest staying at other hotels/RIU's, the cost for a day pass to attend the wedding if you are staying at a sister RIU hotek (which you are) is $45, if you are attending the wedding and NOT staying at a RIU hotel, it's $65.

It depends of which package she choose for the wedding, but there is an additional cost for everyone over the cost of her package. If she is having a buffet dinner in a semi private restaurant it would be $20/person additional. If she is having a private reception (not open to the public) it is $50/person. I am having a private reception, otherwise you are limited to the times and the restaurant is semi private, meaning other people may be in the restaurant at the same time, but in another part of the restaurant. I've heard it can still feel like a private party.

You are very nice to think of those things for your niece. My fiance and I initially did not understand why there was a $20/person charge at an All inclusive resort, but it was cleared up when we went for a pre-visit and the WC told us that it's more of a charge for set up and the price to have additional staff on hand to cater to your specific party, (open bar runs, etc). Let me know if you have any other questions!

There are four Riu's in Cancun.

1) Riu Palace Peninsula - Newest Riu in Cancun, nice interior, modern and very art deco.

2) Riu Palace Las Americas - GORGEOUS interior, old colonial style pillars with painted dome ceilings and giant chandeliers.

3) Riu Caribe - Next door to the Rui Peninsula.  Older hotel, still nice.

4) Riu Cancun - Beautiful interior, older style hotel also.

To be honest, if you are getting married in Cancun and are looking at a RIU, the most beautiful one is Las Americas.

xoxo

Nora.

Cristyzavala,

Can you maybe help me understand something about the costs here. I understand that each package covers a certain amount of people for dinner and I think that if you have over 50 people you can request a private dinner.  Does that increase the price of the package since it's private? How many people do you have going down for your wedding?

My other question is around alcohol at the reception. I think I read somewhere that there is an additional cost per person for open bar at the dinner/reception but now I can't remember where I saw that. Any idea if I'm making this up or if I did actually read that somewhere?

Good luck!and if you don't see this until after you get married Congrats! I'm hoping you can share some more info about your experience when you get back, I'm getting married next June at the Riu Palace Mexico and can't wait!

Congrats again!

Karen

Hi ladies! I went on a site visit last month and decided on a private venue for the wedding. Now we are looking at hotels for our guests ave I have started considering riu palace riviera maya vs riu palace mexico. We want a fun, kid friendly, budget friendly, and beautiful resort with good food! Can anyone comment on whether this resort fits the needs? Also, does anyone know details on rehearsal dinners? Costs? Locations? Thanks! Both resorts look amazing!

We have stayed at both hotels.  Both are good depending on what your'e wanting in decor.  The RPM has recently changed to a very purple hotel, and there is still some reno's on going.  the RPRM is still the elegant white and wrought iron.  I think the service and the restaurants are almost identical at both.  Riu Palace Mexico *RPM* is closer to the disco *right across the street for dancing* while the RIU Palace Riviera Maya is closer walk to downtown Playa Del Carmen.   The newly renovated rooms at he RPM appear to be much smaller than the rooms at the RPRM.

If given the choice to return, either of the hotels are nice and the food is good at both.  As per wedding,,,,,,be careful as they are not like having a wedding in Canada,,,they do not pay attention to details unless you are willing to over pay.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
