Back from my wedding at Riu Palace Tropical Bay in Negril

Recommended Posts

I am getting married at RPTB on March 8, 2014. I have only dealt with Sophia so I am unable to compare her to Anne Marie. I began communicating with Sophia in July and she has been very responsive. She has made recommendations and suggestions that I had not previously thought about. She has also provided pictures of different ceremony and reception set ups from what comes with our package and if we pay for extras. I am keeping each email for record even if it just says, "thank you". Thus far, I have no complaints. In addition, I have been in touch with 2 brides that were married at RPTB this summer and neither had any complaints. Both told me that if they had to do it all again they would not change a thing. They both also were pleased with Sophia before and during their weddingmoon. I hope this helps some.

Can anyone say if there is a good place to have a "cocktail time" between the 4pm wedding and the 6:30 dinner? I saw someone commented that they gave guests the optino of meeting or going back to their room etc, but I was wondering if anyone coud advise me on what might be a good lounge/bar/area for my guests to go after the wedding (I refuse to buy a cocktail hour at an all includsive). I am trying to make a "wedding day itinerary" for my guests and want to put the location we'd meet after the wedding before dinner.

Also, I know someone (maybe the same post), mentioned heading to the beach after dinner. I absolutely want to do this, but have also seen some posts about avoiding the beach at night... any comments? Is night swimming frowned upon by the Riu, because Im totally looking forward to that. We are doing a bonfire in lieu of a rehersal dinner to kick off the wedding the night before our wedding day, but 2 beach nights in a row are okay by me!!

Thanks!!

We had drinks at the lobby bar after the ceremony. It started to rain, so as we were getting photos taken in lobby, all the wedding guests were hanging out at that bar and it worked out great. Plenty of seats, a good place to mingle and get photos with guests. Before we knew it, it was time to move the party to the restaurant.

A little late to this party, but no! It's not frowned upon. I think we must have asked 6x before we were assured that yes indeed you can swim in the pool at night. They even brought us champagne one night! That was my favorite thing about this resort. Everywhere else I've been they kick you out if you try. We spent almost all of our late evenings in the pool.

Edit: can't remember going in the ocean at night

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
