2013 Gran Caribe Real/ Royal Cancun Brides

I was also debating on whether or not to contact an outside vendor for  decor...and was thinking that if I did flowers through them too it would maybe be cheaper and I could get the centerpieces that I actually want. My WC quoted the centerpieces I sent her at $390, which I think is high. I really don't know the cost of flower centerpieces, even if I was going to be having a wedding home, but I was thinking that any place outside of the hotel is cheaper than that.

Kaitlyn - I'm sorry you are so frustrated! I feel like I am pretty low maintenance as far as wanting customizations/extras but I also am a little disappointed in the resort's offerings. I completely know what you mean, I don't really mind picking from their list because I was expecting that, but the lack of response is so frustrating, and you think they could help you customize at least a little bit!

So sorry some of you aren't having a pleasant experience with your coordinators.  If you're thinking switching coordinators, I had a great experience with Ana Perez.  She was my coordinator up till I was switched to my onsite coordinator -- Elizabeth Sotelo.  I was planning for about three years with Ana, and she was awesome to work with.  She responded to emails quickly and was super nice.  There were a few things they told me no on, but I was super nice and kept pushing and all worked out.  I kept every single email and referred back to them when I needed to.  For example, we brought our own photographers and when it was time to tally up the cost for everything, I saw they added a $350 vendor fee when I was told that as long as my photographers were staying at the hotel and counted as our guests, that the fee would be waived.  I brought it to her attention and attached my email showing where it says the fee would be waived, and they waived it.

With Elizabeth, I had no issues at all.  The day of the wedding, she had everything under control.  I was worried because this was all new to me and I didn't know what to expect.  She was there during the ceremony, after the ceremony, told us where to be, when to meet, and was there the whole time during the reception.  When we arrived at the hotel, she sent us flowers.  The day after the wedding she sent us a huge fruit basket, and she had all of our things boxed up (all the things we brought for set-up, marriage license, etc.).

, Hi Norma, we meet again :) so great to see your response because I'm currently working with Ana Perez! That puts me at ease after reading the issues some of the other brides are having.

I went through Star Travel out of Atlanta and they were AMAZING.  We even got a credit for each new family that booked through them and she promised to beat any price people could find on their own by $100.  My guests paid about $1200 for a week for adults and $700 for children.

I have been told that even though my photographers are staying at the hotel for TWO nights that I cannot get the outside vendor fee waived.  They've offered to reduce it, but will not waive it.

I don't mind that things are black and white, it means you know you're options up front.  I do like that they allow you to bring your own things w/o any fees, although it can be hard to travel that way.  If you think about it though, people aren't coming to your wedding for the cake, decorations, flowers, etc.  The scenery is gorgeous, the food sounds fantastic, and you're going to be there with the people that mean the most to you.  I've decided not to worry so much about the little details, I bet people will love it no matter what, hopefully becuase I've invited them to share in the biggest day of my life.  The wedding planning through Real Resorts has been very similar to having a local wedding, which is somewhat reassuring to me.  Its the same obstacles, little stresses, big stresses, and beautiful ending that every bride has (or so I've heard).

Emily!  I am SO sorry you have a bridesmaid acting like that.  How frustrating.  Hunny, you may be better off without her in the wedding...as hard as that sounds.  I am going through something similar, although mine is still standing up - but by her own requirements and with plenty of guilt on me for planning an expensive destination wedding (even though hers was a destination wedding too!).  People will be people and we're better off for being flexible.  Maybe this means there is someone else you care about that you can ask instead?  Or maybe you have an uneven number of attendants, and that's ok too! I can almost guarantee your wedding will still be awesome and you'll still be a beautiful bride! With or without her standing next to you!

So I officially arrive at the GCR 15 days from now.  I can't wait to take photos and share them with you guys!  Diana, my onsite WC, is still  being awesome, so I'm getting really excited!  I love that she sounds so on top of everything and told me she doesn't want me to worry about anything when I get there, that she'll take care of everything!  Such a relief.  Her good reputation from on here helps too.  :-)

Hey Ladies, things have been so crazy for me lately so sorry havent been able to respond to things on here. I'm sorry everyone is experiencing such stressful times with prices, WC's and other things from the resort. I also have been very very disappointed with the pricing on things and how they don't care to work with you at all. From the beginning I had such a hard time in even trying 2 get a discount through the resort itself. all my guests have paid an arm and a leg to stay there, and I dont even have much family going except for parents and some cousins. Even my own brother not going (that's another story within itself!!!) Things will always go wrong prior to wedding, but like  Christen Jean stated, the wedding is bout the 2 of you and the love you have for one another. Everything else will fall into place. Emily I feel for you bc i'm going through something similar as well. I started out w/ a wedding party of 8, we're down to 4. it's crazy how people claim they will b there 4 you but wen the tough gets going you c who truly is there....this time hasnt even been happy 100% for me. I'm walkin on eggshells not even knowing that my mother will b there for sure until I see her on that airplane. it's constant battle and unfortunately a lot of times family is at brink of it. But hold on tight to your FI girls and lets continue to vent to each other bc it actually is good to let it all out!!. Hope everyone can get a wonderful and beautiful wedding day. We all desrve it :)

We are struggling to plan for our one big day.  We want it to be as perfect as possible - such as life - nothing will be perfect but we try to do the best we can.  After our wedding, we would look back and say why did I stress out about it?  You will look gorgeous no matter what.  You will be with your husband happily forever after no matter what happens on that day.

I know it's easy to say.... I'm trying to say the same thing to myself but it's rather hard to not by nickpicking about little stuff.  Now....where is my email response from WC Katia Nunez?????  Arghhhh

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
