Late wedding dress - advice needed

Recommended Posts

Hi Ladies!

Any idea what I can use as leverage or pull to get the bridal salon to hurry my dress along?  I ordered a Pronovias Fauna dress and it's almost a month late.

I ordered the dress end of March...obviously it can take dresses take 4 - 6 months, but the bridal store said Pronovias dresses ordered that week were scheduled for delivery in 4 months - end of July.  (Another bridal store told me the same delivery timeframe so at least the info jived.)

The dress is almost a month late, and I leave for Mexico in 6 wks (Oct 10).  The bridal store (Eva's of Orland Park) has been giving me a run-around the past few wks saying they were trying to get a hold of the designer in Spain; then the story changed to they were trying to get a hold of the designer in the NY office; then they said it would be here by now... and still no dress.

I don't know how to get an honest answer out of this bridal store, and I don't know what leverage I have.  The dress is paid in full so it's not like I can say I won't give them the remaining amount, and I'm not sure how much weight it would carry if I said I'd give them a bad review.  Is there a tracking # I can demand?  Or make them give me the # that they try calling?  Ideas?

Thanks!

Sorry to hear about this. When I ordered my dress I was given a tracken number from the dress store that lets me check the stage of the dress in each process. Ordered, designer working on etc. Call them and ask them if they can provide you with the documentation that the dress was ordered.

I hope it works out. Do you have an idea of a second dress you might like?

Thanks anyway girls.

I think my plan will be to have them call Pronovias with me 3-way on the phone so I can hear for myself where the dress is, or to give me a tracking number.  If they're uncooperative or continue giving me a run-around, I'll be IN their store next week to make a scene and warn the other brides.

We'll see how it all goes down!

Is there a way for you to call Pronovias yourself?

This is an aweful situation to be in! It was one of my greatest fears with ordering a dress.  If I was you I would demand that the store call them while you are there to find out the status of your dress. Nothing worse then having to worry about where your dress is.  Good luck! Let us know how things turn out!

I know this isn't the answer you want to hear, but just wait a bit longer.

I doubt that they did something shady like steal your money instead of ordering your dress.  There probably is just a delay in construction.

My bridal boutique told me that alterations can be done in no time (like as little as 5 days!).  While that isn't ideal, at least it buys you almost 5 weeks before you absolutely have to have it.

If I were you, I would show up to the Bridal Salon, in person, as soon as they open and ask to speak with the Manager.  Explain to her that you are feeling nervous (like every other bride!) and that her staff isn't doing anything to offer you reassurance.  Try to stay calm and not threaten to give them bad reviews.  Just stay level headed and listen to what she says.  If after you speak with her you still don't feel better, ask her to get on the phone with Pronovias and be included in the conversation.  That should definitely give you some answers!

Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
