Hey guys,

Just a quick question. IN regards to the Free package at the Riu. You have to pay for your minister and certificate correct? Does anyone know how much that would be and how you go about getting that?

Thanks!

Hey Danielle03, there really is no "Free" package ....the package is $500 and covers the minister and marriage documents/certificate. That's what I have right now as well ;)

Thanks. Yeah I finally got a email back sayin its 525 for it. Which isnt bad. You would have to pay there at home also so thats all good. Was just thinking if it was the same as one of the "other " packages, that you get a couple shirts with and the minsiter/cert I would of went with that.

Have you got any information for flowers and what not? I know i have a while to go but I like to look and decide so that way I have time to change my mind LOL. I read some ppl go with Jans flowers but Im sure you hve to pay some fee to use those instead of TAI flowers. Just wondering what the options are for boquets. etc.

Are you going to have your bridesmaids have boquets? IM tryin to think of alternatives for them, and just keep the boquet for me.

Any thoughts?

If you'll be at the pool on the "standard" side of the resort, then it'll be far enough away. If you're at the pool near the "deluxe" side of the resort where the upgraded suites are, I don't THINK the entertainment would be disruptive. It is a ways away. I know the sound definitely carries to the lobby area of the deluxe side (my room was on the third floor above the lobby of the deluxe side, and I could definitely hear the entertainment from my room)... and the pool is on the other side and down a ways from the deluxe lobby. In theory it's a ways away but I don't know how the sound carries!

If you can confirm it's the pool on the non-deluxe side of the resort then you'll be good to go!

(PS I say "deluxe" and "non-deluxe" for descriptive purposes only... the entire resort is very nice, there's no obvious difference in quality between the 2 sides!)

Or you could do what I did and get legally married in your home town at city hall, or wherever, and only pay for the "Renewal of Vows" package. You get everything else you would with the Free Wedding package, but at a cheaper price (about $200 cheaper).

We did it this way to save a bit of money and the hassle of getting legal documentation to Jamaica (you'll need to send notarized copies of your birth certificates (and possibly drivers licenses) to Keisha before you arrive), then legal documentation back to your home country (which could take months), then you have to bring that documentation to have your wedding officially recognized in your home country. And getting your Jamaican marriage recognized officially in your home country might come with more fees as well!

Too much hassle, in my opinion. If you get legally married at home first, you just have to send Keisha a scan of your marriage certificate. When I did this she even offered to "keep it a secret" so you're guests don't know that you're already legally married.

I debated doing this, but I want it to be a "real" wedding in the sense. I thought of doing it like that here in canada so my grand parents could be present but then I felt bad that Im having my guests fly all that way for a "fake " wedding.

Its something I would discuss again with my FI, but my cousin had his wedding in Jamaica and had a legal one there and they didtn seem to have any issues. Its just a matter of sending the papers, But if you do it with plenty of time, I dont see a issue with it really. I tend to be pretty on point with things like that, Id probably send them even before they requested the deadline to be lol. Im just that kind of person when it comes to that.

Its definitaly something I have to do more research on :)

Thanks for the info

I'm doing the free package at the Riu Palace Tropical Bay. If you give me your email I'll send you the form. It's $500 for the minister fee. My travel agent is giving me $25 per person who books through her, so if you think you might have 20 people coming, maybe your travel agent could do something like that? Also be sure you are getting a group discount on the hotel rooms if you have a larger group coming. For every 5 PEOPLE that book, my fiance and I get a night free. So since we have about 30 people coming, our whole hotel is paid for the 4 nights we are there.

If you want to email me ([email protected]) I can send you some of the info my wedding coordinator sent me from Riu Palace Tropical Bay in Negril. I'm doing the "free" package and the flowers that come with it are not cute to me. I'm hoping i can find another florist in Jamaica but I'm having a hard time finding anything I like that's not $300 for a bouquet. I'm getting married there in December and I completely understand about wanting to get things done, as I have 90% of my wedding plans taken care of 10 months before lol

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
