Grand Riviera/Sunset Princess Resort Review & Pics!! Lots of Pics!!

Recommended Posts

Hey Liz!

No prob with answering your questions, I know I had a trillion before I left, so I'm just glad I can help out and put other concerns to rest!

I think one night a week, not sure which night, they have a live Mariachi Band, which was awesome!!! Most the other nights, it's pretty slow relaxed music, these two people, one female singer and a guy that plays the keyboard and sings backup, and they have a VERY SPECIFIC short list of music that they can do. You hear a lot of the same songs played nightly...Hotel California...80's soft rock-ish...there is a list they will let you look at to request a song, but if it's not on their list they won't play it - I think because of not knowing anything else! I think one night they actually had salsa and were teaching people...but I missed that night.

The shows are good, and *funny*, they put A LOT of work into them, the costumes, the lip syncing and hair and makeup - we actually only went to one show so I can't really comment on them all! It's entertainment, we didn't really hear a lot of people complaining, some may have applied the term "cheesy" lol

We didn't see the flamenco show, totally wished we would have, heard it was good - and we didn't even get to eat at Mamma Mia or La Hacienda!!!

It was a FAST week, so my one piece of advice...scratch that make that 2 pieces of advice:

*learn to say NO to family and friends on YOU trying to coordinate everything.

*stay 10 days to 2 weeks if you can!!! 7 days + a wedding with a ton of needy guests is not enough to get full use of all the amenities on this resort!!!

Most of our group really LOVED Las Olas...and really I'm not sure about the rest, sorry I can't help you there! I didn't even try Las Olas, the only one's I tried were:

La Valqueria, really good, everyone liked it (that was our rehersal)

Miso - again really good, but that was a regular night so not a set menu...

OMG I think that's it, time just went soooooooo fast!!

Any other questions don't hesitate to ask!!

Good Luck!!

Suzy :o)

I ate at Mama Mia & La Hacienda (had my rehersal dinner there). I loved Mama Mia. Oh and the Flamenco show was great as well!

I am planning my wedding at the Grand Riviera Princess this November 2010. We are just making the arrangements now and it's only 5 months away so not alot of time to stop and think about things. I am wondering if anyone recommends the hair/makeup at the resort as well as the photographer. I really want great pictures/video. any other info or pictures would be helpful.

We got married on February 1, 2010 at the Grand Riviera Princess and we were so blessed to have Patricia as our wedding planner. From day one, she was like a friend to us - or maybe more like a fairy godmother with a magic wand making all of our dreams and wishes come true. No matter the question or the detail, she had it taken care of and was an absolute pleasure to talk to. At first, I was a little leary planning a destination wedding because I felt very out of control and couldn't do a lot of things myself or know exactly how it would be. Patricia, put me at ease and didn't miss any details. We were so well taken care of, and she really went above and beyond our expectations. On our wedding day, our guests commented on what a pleasure Patricia the wedding planner is and how we lucked out by having her.

Our wedding at the Grand Riviera Princess was an absolute dream come true. We honestly wouldn't have changed a thing. The resort was so classy and made us feel very special with the extra touches like a welcome basket in the room, special decorations in the room, a golf cart ride to the wedding spot, beautifully set up chairs, every detail was carefully thought of by Patricia! There were so many special details that it's too numerous to list them all in a letter, but they will never be forgotten by my husband and I and our families. They will be memories that are in our hearts forever.

We have some beautiful professional photos of our wedding that really showcase just how beautiful the resort is and the ocean and beaches. If you want to check out some of our photos I'd be happy to send them. We have some really ones of the "details" too, like the wedding set up, dinner with decorations and placecards, etc. My email address is robynzaharia@gmail.com

My husband and I are also talking about coming back for our anniversary because we loved the area, the rooms, pools, resort, ocean, beach & most of all the people so much.

P.S. SUZY - excellent review! I couldn't agree more. We thought the resort was amazing and so clean - pure class. The food, I would've rated the same as you. I wasn't a big fan of the food to be honest.

    • Hi Brides! I have a Wally Bag - 66" available - $90 + shipping (US only) The wally bag typically sells for $120-$180. I used this gown bag once to transport my dress from MN to Mexico for our wedding - IT WAS PERFECT!   I was actually able to pack 4 additional maxi dresses, and my husband's wedding attire, plus a few pairs of shoes and some jewelry. I packed the dress the night before we left, and just moments before we left, I zipped the bag and folded it - ready for travel. It comes up with a nice over-the-shoulder strap, making it really easy to carry through the airports. No issues on Delta with the bag as my carry-on - I chose to put in the overhead bin, but the flight attendant did offer to hang it in the closet for me. Once we got to the resort, about 10 hours after I first folded the bag, I unpacked the bag and my dress was perfect - no wrinkles! My dress was mostly lace and had a bit of a train, but it arrived perfectly!  Honestly, this is the best way to travel with your dress!
    • we ended up using Facebook messenger when we were in Mexico - the hotel had free wifi and at least 1 person from each family/couple had FB on their phone already - it was pretty easy to communicate among guests "hey, we're heading to the beach bbq for lunch." or "everyone is hanging at the small pool today".  a plus was that some people tried to get a hold of me via FB on the day of the wedding and I was totally not checking my phone - they were asking if the wedding was outside given the rain forecast, thankful my mom, MOH and a few other friends were on the group and could respond for me :)

    • Hi Everyone, So, I was cleaning out my closet and realized that I never sold off my extra wedding OOT bag stuff from our wonderful DW.   46 Daily Spanish for Dummies 30 Pool colored OOT fabric bags - approximately 13in x 13in. They lay flat.  I used them for our wedding and they were perfect for everything we needed to fit in each bag. There’s a slight shade variation in the group; I’m guessing some were cut from a different bolt of fabric.  They are also a little wrinkled from storage and will probably be wrinkled from shipping. I have three additional ones, but they somehow got something on them (likely toddler related). If needed, I can try to wash it out and send those as well.
