IS Puerto Vallarta safe for travelling?

Recommended Posts

So then my advice would be, don't go to those non-tourist areas. No brainer.

Also, don't listen to ANY advice until a few months out. None of us have crystal balls, and telling you our experiences TODAY has zero impact on what will be happening an entire year from now.

I completely understand you want to make sure you book a fantastic hotel in a safe area and not have problems, but since you have to book so far out to get a date, and all your ducks in a row, there really is no advice other than being able to predict the future would help. Even if you found out 6 months, 4 weeks, or 2 days before that all the sudden it's considered "unsafe", you would already be booked and sunk for the whole deal anyways.

Sorry again if that's harsh but why worry about something you might not even need to fix, and if you do there is no way to prevent it anyways?

I get your concerns and I think Abbie summed it up well.  We can't guarantee your safety but can let you know our experiences, none of which were dangerous or violent.

People get robbed/raped/murdered every day in the city where I live...where I live.  But that doesn't stop tourists from flocking to Los Angeles in numbers because the whole city isn't unsafe, kwim?

At the end of the day if you are going to spend the next year worried then don't get married in Mexico.  This should be a joyous time for you and if the location is stressing you then that is no way to plan your wedding.  Good luck!

Things are changing rapidly in certain areas of Mexico, which is why I am asking if things have not affected this area yet.  Of course I would not go somewhere that is unsafe.  Half of my family lives in Mexico and I will not be going where they live or where my family has our second home due to the fact that it is now unsafe there.  I don't know anyone in Puerto Vallarta and have not been there myself for 2 years now, which is why I am asking those who have there recently to ask if things have not changed there.  I have gone to various parts of Mexico mostly non-tourist areas every year for the last 14 years.  I love Mexico and want my family at my wedding which is why I will be having my wedding out there.  I just want to be able to tell family members who are worried that I have heard that people just went to PV and there are no issues currently there.

I truly appreciate all your comments.

This makes me so sad for Mexico. The whole country and economy is suffering because of evil greedy people in certain areas. All my experience with people in Mexico has been the nicest, most polite, caring people. My father lives in Guadalajara and he thinks the media in the US plays up what has happened. Of course, horrible things HAVE happened, but those things happen everywhere. Living in Houston, I feel I am closer to the danger (the border, and all of the trafficking that I am sure goes through here)  here than in Puerto Vallarta, all the way on the West Coast. We were in PV the other summer, stayed in a condo in El Centro, and felt very safe. Everyone should just be cautious as they would be on any vacation in a foreign country.

I had many of my guest stressing me out bc of everything going on at Mexico before leaving to my wedding. I just got back from my wedding and we had the best experience ever. It was new years week it took us about an hour to get to down town to the marina bc their was a lot of nationals. We went parting to some of the bars like Punto V and it was fun we never experienced anything bad. Also some our guest went to some tours like Zip lining and jungle tours and everyone had a fun time. It was very safe.

Hello Erica

I live in Puerto Vallarta and I can tell you that nothing has changed! It is still super safe. Actually I found an article in a blog that talks exactly about safety in PV. It is a blog of an amazing hotel in a pristine beach in PV south shore where I am going to have my wedding! It explains it very well: click here

Bye

This is my first time in Puerto Vallarta and I am already in love with the place and the amazing people that I have met! I stay at Oasis Hostel (www.oasishostel.com) and I feel very safe staying there. Media forget to show the real side of Mexico. They forget about the amazing food, the nice people, the culture and the nature. Puerto Vallarta is an amazing city that everybody has to visit!

Puerto Vallarta is a great place to take a relaxing vacation, eat great food and have a fun time.

Viva la Mexico! embarrassed.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
