Help! Wedding schedule dilemma. Gran Caribe Wedding.

Recommended Posts

Ok so my fiance and I just set a date for our wedding. We reserved the Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel at the Gran Caribe Resort in Cancun for November 20, 2010 at 10 a.m.

Our wedding date was originally set for November 20, 2010 at 4 p.m. (which is an additional $400 but we thought it was worth it) but AFTER I paid the deposit the time slot was no longer available. =/ I think somehow the week between us booking the wedding (a la carte) and paying the first deposit, someone beat us to the punch and reserved the 4 p.m. time slot. Boo.

The venue is beautiful and although my fiance suggested we do this elsewhere in order to have an evening ceremony, I already have my heart set on this chapel. It's gorgeous.

Saturday the 20th works best for us so it looks like we're stuck with the 10 am time slot. Is anyone else getting married in the morning and having a reception in the evening? Should I just have a luncheon instead? What should we do for the following 5+ hrs if we set the reception for sunset?

I'm having the same dilemma. I booked the ceremony for 10 a.m. as well because I wanted 11/11/11 and that was the only slot available. So far we have decided to have a luncheon at 1pm but I'm still trying to decide if that was the right decision. I'm new to this site too so I am looking around for answers too lol.

I was going to get married at this hotel as well, i sent Julie millions of emails trying to decide because i too fell lin love with the chapel but i changed my mind and ended up in Cabo doing my ceremony at 6pm at the Gazebo.

The morning wedding is kind of hard because if you do the reception in the evening how are you going to entertain the guests for 5+ hrs? It would probably be better for you to do a lunch reception. It's just going to be hot.

I think you should do a regular evening reception! What I would do is have the ceremony and then have a cocktail hour for pictures and what not right afterwards, and then let everyone go back to their rooms and relax until the reception that evening. I don't think you'll have as much fun at a luncheon as a dinner reception, but that's just my two cents! Btw, I have been to several weddings where the ceremony was early in the day and the reception was much later, so I don't think this is completely out of the norm, especially since your guests will not have far to travel.

Your fiance is right.   Do it elsewhere.  Stick with the evening time!

Quick FYI about that photograph.   They photo is lit using a big flash, in order to balance the light inside vs outside.    I talked about gazebo light in this thread, same principal applies here.  In a way, this is false advertising.

Commercial photos, one big flash, balanced light inside and out.    During a wedding, a big big big flash for every photograph is not practical.  In fact, I never ever in a zillion years use a flash during a ceremony, just too obtrusive.

Just a 2 cents worth....

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
