Biggest Destination Wedding Stress factor - what's yours?

Recommended Posts

HI @@ASAtobe

Thanks and yeah it sucks. But now with the two travel agents I am hoping that communication will be better. Guests should be able to get a hold of one or the other in reasonable time.

I haven't had much luck with this booking process since it started to be honest. I just can't wait for July 4th to be over with because that's when the deposit deadline is. At least what's booked is booked at that point and no more stressing over that part anyway.

Ok my latest stress is definitely picking colors for the chair decor. I want to bring my own sashes and starfish but am torn on the color. I want it to match the bouquet I'm getting with the package which is a tropical bouquet and from the pics I've gotten - the flowers are pink, red, white, yellow and I think I saw a hint of orange in there. The florist said she could try to customize to my color theme but I originally wanted coral but now I'm not sure if there are flowers that match that color. I hate red so I'm going to ask her to exclude the red flowers from the bouquet if possible and the fiancée doesn't want pink decor! Lol ahhhhh! Why is picking a color so hard.

Also I'm struggling with the idea of not having a private reception. At first I was ok with it but now I'm not sure. I want some traditional things and I don't know if they can be done during the semi private dinner. :(

Your wedding colors don't have to match your bouquet exactly. You can just pick something that will complement it. I think you can still go with coral and have pink flowers, white and orange. It took me a while to pick the colors too and I think I changed them like 3 times ahaha. Keep in mind that it is important but I haven't really seen a bad color for a wedding so I'm sure you won't regret whatever color you choose. My colors are cornflower blue and blush pink. My bouquet is mostly ivory/white and I think it has a few blush colored roses in there.

@@kcole123 I can relate to your TA issues. I havent even been able to get one to find me a resort yet. I talk to them for a while, and then I go over a week without contact. All I want is a quote and to pick my place! Ahhh. However, I did notice that you are getting married at the Melia Caribe. At the moment that is 1 of 2 options for my FI and I. How is your planning going with the resort???

@@MissJen3 Yay haven't talked to many brides who are thinking of going with Melia Caribe. The contact with the hotel has been pretty good so far. Of course like all resorts there is usually a wait time to get back to you. But I have only emailed them twice so far just with questions. And they got back to me with answers within a couple of days. So I don't find it too bad. They have set me up with a co-ordinator there to send all my papers to once I fill them out. I don't have anything sent to them yet though in terms of any wedding details just because I figured I would wait a little longer to see if anymore people will book. My wedding isn't until April 2015 so I thought I would probably wait until Dec before I sent the paperwork or early Jan.

So why do you think you may chose this resort? I look at trip advisor all the time by the way, even now, after we have it booked...lol I fell in love with the pictures of that resort. It just looks so pretty.

Yea that is true. The other options for my bouquet are red or white roses so if anything I could go with the all white roses I just wanted some kind of color in the bouquet so it doesn't blend in with my dress. I'm not into bright colors usually but for the wedding I wanted something to complement the beach background. I also love the teal sashes but I think that might be too much blue lol. Lots to think about lol.

@@kcole123 My FI and I really want to get married in Punta Cana even though neither of us has been there), and when I was researching I just happened to come across it. Like you I check trip advisor and all off the reviews seem decent to me and from this years prices, the price seems right for us. So we added it to our list of places. Once we hear back from the TA we will make our final decision.

Yeah same with us. We have never been to Dominican and we decided on Punta Cana. We were thinking of Mexico at first but every resort we liked was a little bit too pricey for our guests`We didn`t  want Cuba at all and we have been to Jamaica. So we decided Punta Cana would be different for both of us. Make sure to let me know once you make the decision.

It's funny I was totally in love with the cornflower blue before I even started planning a destination wedding. Then I thought it might be too much blue but I saw some pictures on google and I actually liked how it looked so I decided to go with it anyway. How about having the white flowers and a few colored flowers that match or go well with your colors? I think at the end of the day the colors for the whole thing are more important than the bouquet so I'd probably try to work the bouquet around my colors, if that makes any sense, but I don't know if it's the same for you. I just think the color of the bouquet will be much more easily forgotten than the feel that colors give to a wedding. For example, a black, white and hot pink wedding has a different feel than one in pastel colors.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
