Biggest Destination Wedding Stress factor - what's yours?

Recommended Posts

I'd say my biggest stress was 1) waiting for people to book - all the people I really wanted there, did book by our end date; 2) surprisingly my centre pieces. Since we're getting married in Cuba they don't have much variety/options so you pretty much need to bring anything if you have a specific vision; 3) picking the resort; and 4) I know I will be stressing out hoping people are having a good time and that they like the resort I chose. I mean they spent a fair amount to come to our wedding so I hope it will be good and they'll like it, but at the end of the day I try to remember that they also chose to come - no one was forced so I am guessing most are coming because they genuinely want to.

I was lucky to not have anyone get mad, or resent us for having a destination wedding. We completely understand if people can't come and there are no hard feelings. What I found weird was when I've talked to people who are more acquaintances or people in passing who I've told about and comment on our decision to have a destination wedding... um excuse me its not like you were even invited or have to make a decision about coming so really what do you care?

Getting people to book was stressful...and it's lagged on as well.  We have most of our guests booked thankfully but there are still about 8-9 guests who have said "i'm 100% coming....we just haven't booked yet...we will soon".......Something inside me just doesn't believe it lol......One of them actually is one of the groomsmen...who at this point, I could care less if he's there or not!!! We have 3 weeks till the wedding....I figure, if they have not booked by NOW, then they are not coming at all.  I am going to do one final run down 1.5 weeks ahead and hopefully I get more real answers.  My problem is that I don't want to take more OOT bags than I have to..... *sigh*.....

Also, videography prices.....can't believe how much they charge at the resorts ...for cookie cutter type videos!!! and that damn vendor fee....I had to protest about that to my coordinator a couple times lol I bet she cannot wait to meet meeee!! :-

Check out weddingmix for your video its cool you can have different people video the whole week/weekend and its pretty cheap. Its not going to be your professional type wedding video but you will have something fun you can always look back on and the prices are reasonable. Plus instead of just having a video of the wedding day you can do the whole vacation. Check out their website http://www.storymixmedia.com/weddings/how-it-works-weddingmix-wedding-video.html.

Yes, I actually reserved a package yesterday it was for the app and 3 cameras so I can use the app now until the wedding and use the 3 cameras the whole weeked we are in Cancun.  I like that I can add every wedding event like the bridal shower, bach parties, rehearsal dinner, wedding and the honeymoon if you want.  It all depends on what package you want and it only starts at $99.00. Here is a blog of one of the brides from this forum that used it you can get more info on the there about the video.

We're in the same boat with guests still saying they're coming but they haven't booked yet.  Some of the stuff for the OOT bags we ordered from the States, so I can't get anymore of at a reasonable price, and of course those are the things I'm running low on.

That's an awesome idea NJBride.  I just checked it out and that does look awesome.  We are doing a video, but this would be a great way to get all of the events in addition to the events.  Cool!

That's what I like about this idea I can get my bridal shower, bach party and the whole week in cancun plus wedding and honeymoon in the video.  I think it will be fun to look back at the whole year. I'm glad you found it helpful.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
