Playa Flamingo and La Fortuna in a week?

We are planning on having our wedding at the end of Sept 2010 and are trying to narrow down where we want to go. I've been in touch with one destination wedding planner and they have come up with a great itinerary for us. But, I'm afraid it will be too busy for everyone. Not knowing to much about Costa Rica and how long it takes to get around, can someone let me know if this sounds like to much?

Arrive on day 1, go to La Fortuna to Arenal Springs Resort. We will spend the next two days going to Arenal Volcano and rafting or boating in the jungle. On day 4 we will travel to Playa Flamingo Beach resort (anyone know how long this drive is?) and spend the rest of the time here. The wedding day will be on the 6th day.

Has anyone had any experience with these planned trips? Do they go well or will people rather set up their own tours?

Also looking for feed back on both of these resorts and if anyone has had their wedding at Playa Flamingo and how it went.

Any comments or suggestions would be great, thanks everyone!!

Hi there,

I love Costa Rica and lived there for a bit... La Fortuna is about 2-3 hours from Liberia Airport (where I would imagine you would fly into)... the best resort in La Fortuna is Tabacon, they have great hot springs, hikes and ziplines. Its about 3 hrs drive from La Fortuna to Flamingo. There are a lot of beautiful resorts by the beach. I think your trip sounds fun, the drive is safe and pretty (though smaller roads). The upside it that when leaving CR, you would be relatively close to the Liberia airport....

Pura Vida :)

  • 2 weeks later...

The IT they gave you sounds pretty good. You will get the best of CR like this (Arenal then beach) so will your guests (they will love it). From Liberia airport you will go thru Canas to Arenal (about 3 1/2). Sept is also is a good time for Arenal (you will get some clear days for sure). You will drive around the lake to get to Fortuna (road is very good now). Keep in mind that Sept is rainy time in Guancaste (nothern beach areas). We were lucky this year with the influence of El Nino. Have backup plans (tents) for weather.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
