Best time of year to visit DR?

Recommended Posts

Hi BikeGirl!

I will definitely keep you updated should I find a travel agent. My cousin works has a few contacts in travel and she met someone recently who supported your statement that your money goes much further in sept/October in DR. Apparently prices go up after Nov 15? But my primary concern was hurricane season -- thanks for clearing that up! I guess mid/late November should be safer.

I have been looking at a May wedding. However, there's really not much stopping us from doing it in April instead. I want to go during a month when the weather is not prime (and thus, skyhigh) but not rainy/hot either (late summer).

Would there be a big different in price between April and May? What about weather?
From experience I would choose April over May or at least stick to the very beginning of May. Maybe my experience isn't typical though?

A few years ago we went to Puerto Plata the first week of May (Bahia Principe San Juan), amazing weather, sunny every day, the resort was great! The next year we went back but it was the 2nd week. It rained ALL week and most of the a la cartes were closed, service was terrible etc. Our friends who went the week before us had sunny weather all week so I guess we just picked the worst possible time, lol.

  • 1 year later...

Has anyone had their wedding in the beginning of August?!

We Really want our wedding in Punta Cana but have heard that it is the rain/hurricane season in August?

Sooo we were thinking we might take into consideration Riviera Maya (Mexico) ... Has anyone had an August wedding in either Punta Cana or Riviera Maya? What was the weather like?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
