Something Cuban?

Hi girls -

Are any of you going to incorporate something cuban into your wedding?

I like the idea that a lot of Mexican brides are doing - with having maraca favors that the guests shake at the reception to have the bride and groom kiss - but I feel like maracas are much more a Mexican thing than Cuban.

The only specifically cuban thing I can think of is cigars - but most of my family doesn't smoke, and I can't really figure out how to incorporate that into the wedding anyway!

So are you incorporating something Cuban into your wedding? Either into the ceremony itself, or as favors or something?

We've thought about doing something with cigars- my FI loves them so we'd talked about having them as favours, maybe with personalized labels? Not everyone smokes them though, so I have been thinking that maybe just a tray or some kind of holder for them so that the folks who do like them can have one together. I think I'll still have regular favours that everyone can enjoy in addition to the cigars for that reason also. I'd love to hear what other people are doing for this, too!

Well, a Cuban trio is included in our wedding package for the ceremony... and I oddly never considered that as "something cuban" lol!

I probably will get cigars for some people - but almost noone I know smokes, so getting them for everyone wouldn't really be cost-effective.

Is there anything else anyone is doing?? Its kind of a neat topic...

We had a cigar and champagne hour...

Right after the ceremony, it is Cuban tradition to have something sweet, to begin the honeymoon, this is why we had the cake right after, served along with champagne and cigars.

As few of our family/friends are smokers, we opted to use the small cigarellos (purchased in town before the wedding), and brought with us (classic 70's style) box matches with our names on it.

The cigar/champagne/cake reception (before the actual dinner reception) was amazing. Check out my planning thread for an idea of how it all was pulled together on a timeline.

Here are some pix of the champagne/cigar reception.

there is a lot's of great ideas to incorporate some "Cuba" in your wedding - for non smokerswink.gif

- Cuba is all about the music, the same trio who played for your ceremony can be at the reception

- there is plenty of craft and nice souvenirs on the market in Varadero - they will make great wedding favor.

- you can learn to dance rumba and dance it for your first dance (or the second part of it)

-you can use Maracas (rattles) for the kissing game

-rent nice classic car for pictures or just do them in the city

I will say salsa dancing it is a nice way to incorporate "something cuban" Look at a dance called "rueda de casino" since it is a group dance on which the whole party can have fun. You don't have to be an expert. Another idea it is called the "conga" which is a line Cubans do at parties and no one is allowed stay still. Try Gloria estefan song named "conga"

We're doing an AHR, so I'm going to see if I can get Cuban coffee, and buying little coffee scoopers.

I was going to package the coffee separately in plain coffee bags, getting personalized labels and pasting them on the bags, and then giving the coffee and scooper together as a favour. That's for here though. In Cuba, I would love to do a tray of Cuban cigars...I think that would be a great idea!

My FI and I are lovers of cigars, and so are alot of our friends and family. So since we are having a pretty small wedding, my FI and I decided to give out cigars as our wedding favours. I also come across a website (I will have to look for it again) that made CHOCOLATE cigars and then you could have your own personalized labels. They were pretty cheap..and also a good idea to have in case some of the guests don't smoke. They looked like real cigars aswell which I thought was pretty neat. Its apparently really thin chocolate rolled up. They looked yummy, and I thuoght it was pretty neat! I will definitely have to find that webste and post it on here!

I like the idea of the maracas, and to me they ar more Cuban than Mexican. I have no idea how else we plan on tying Cuba into our wedding, but we do plan on it! Its great to see everyone else's ideas. Amarillis I liked you deas of something sweet right after!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
