Dreams Riviera Cancun - Brides post here (new thread)

Does anyone know where the best place is to have the cocktail hour and also the reception at Dreams Riviera?  I hear they can make the jacuzzi area a cocktail hour and either the DECK or the POOL TERRACE for the reception. We will be having from 30-40 people.

Has anyone seen any other options?  we are getting married there on June 18, 2011

We are so excited!!pinkie.gif

I just returned from my wedding at drc. We did have a mixer at Desires were we just told everyone to meet us there. We then had our ceremony on the beach and while we took pictures everyone headed to the jacuzzi area for the appetizers (delicious). However it did have a ant problem...lots of them. After a hour we headed to the deck for our reception. The deck was wonderful...right on the ocean. Honestly there is not a bad place anywhere at the resort. It is great.

Three hours is toooooo long. You are exhausted and everyone else is too! Enjoy two hours with friends and then escape for some privacy! I had the DJ for 3 hours and tried to get him to stop after 2. It was fun but you are on the beach and everyone is so mellow from relaxing....we are big partiers and we were ready for bed!

I did the same thing as you are talking about. Desires is NOT a happening place. They have a lounge area outside. And you will be pretty secluded. I will tell you there are no lights out there so it is very dark. Bring some of those battery operated candles or something because it is hard to mingle in the dark. That is the best place for that kind of a event though.mee

Just returned from our wedding. It was wonderful! I will run down what we did and you can take what you want! I didnt know where to start....so i used elite travel. They were great for the most part. One employee had a very hard time. Im not sure if i would choose them again. I think you need a travel planner just so guests are calling them and not you. It does help to get answers back quickly from the resort though. I chose to do the oceanfront preffered for a room. It was great. It overlooked the ocean. However we really didnt use the preffered that much. I dont think it was neccesary at all. It was nice to be on the ocean,, but really the room size was what made it great! We could fit the group in for getting ready. We had people with the basic room. Same room as the plunge pool just one floor up and no upgraded toiletries and m& ms and pringles. Plunge pool just meant ground floor. I would not encourage guests to pay for the preffered unless the price was close. There is not a bad room on the property and everywhere is beautiful! I had a nightmare with the planning. I got there and they wanted $60 /plate per head over the 20 included in the package...give me a break! We fought with them and i ended up getting credit for flowers..(brought silk, hair, did my own, photographer- dad is one, 20 meals and had them switched for a cocktail appetizer at the jaquzzi while we took pictures and then 3 hours of dj...didnt get doremixx even though thats who i paid for. and we just had a big dessert bar. The reception with dessert bar was on the deck by the ocean. It was great! I did pay for the $180 for the sound system at the wedding. I took my ipod and made a folder and had each song labeled so it was easy for who ever was running it. Remember to add music for after while taking pictures because they leave it running and it really adds to set the mood. The video was amazing. He was in the room while i got ready and stayed through pictures. It was great and i didnt even know he was there. I also paid $60 to deliver bags to 25 rooms.

Night before mixer: We did at Desires and not through the wedding planners. It was pretty dead in there and they have a great deck with couches. However really dark out there so try and figure out some mood lighting.

Day of wedding: Massage for me and groom, but alone. Guys hung at pool and girls all got ready in my room. Not such a good idea. My room was trashed! People had to leave the wedding to go and clean our room. So use someone elses room. They have a dressing room at spa but spendy$$$$.

The ceremony was awesome. They took my toule i brought and decorated and tied the chair bows and used starfish for decorating that i had also  brought. They are defiantly amazing with service. I wasnt happy that they misspelled our names three times. bulletin, marriage liscense, and video....never the same either.  Go figure they spelled it right on the bill.

We did pictures after the ceremony ...ceremony 4 pm ....appetizers at jacuzzi during pictures and dessert bar and wedding cake with dj on the deck by the ocean.

We were exhausted 2 hours into the reception...you will be ready for alone time.

Next day we did the dolphin experience...awesome and the best thing we did was a 4 wheeler through the jungle and 2 man speed boat on the ocean...blast..Get with Alex from american express for any extras. He is amazing and gets you deals. Has the cabbies wait for you while you golf. He goes above and beyond.

All the restraunts were great. The hibachi was wonderful. However our favorite was at the seaside grill at night next to the swim up pool. No major dress code and the best steaks you can imagine. Bring bug spray....lots of sand fleas, mosquitoes and ants. Some jellyfish too! Its the ocean....

The lobby bar has the best nightly music with some of the best performers i have ever seen. We would sit up there with a large group every night. Bring sunscreen....expensive in gift shop.

All in All it was amazing..if you have any questions im happy to answer! sorry to ramble...just so much going on in a few days!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
