April 2010 Brides

Recommended Posts

LOL! Well my parents have ALWAYS said that if we wanted to elope, just let them know when and where so they could come too! Haha so yes I realize that completely defeats the purpose of eloping in the first place, but it was always good to know they'd be happy with a wedding just about anywhere!

I've lived away from my parents for a few years now (and by away I mean across the country, not just out of their house) so we've all adjusted to life happening without always having each other around. Then again, my sister and her family are close by and I've always said that unless it was a true elopement, I could never see myself getting married without her there. HEE HEE HEE and thankfully that has actually come in handy since I refused to marry my ex because at the time my sister was pregnant and couldn't have traveled to the province we would have been getting married in. THANK GOD that never happened!!!

Initially we'd planned to do it after we got back so that the wedding in mexico was our first shot at it, but now I really want to do it sooner!! Like tomorrow!!! I keep trying to convince FI that we should go get it done and he won't have any of it! LOL! I'm sometimes convinced that he doesn't want to marry me at all and is happy "pretending" at it by having the symbolic ceremony.

I think it would be hilarious to have that big a secret to keep but in the end I would probably end up busting my own bubble. I'm good at that :)
We've been leaning towards doing this, too. It just seems easier than waiting months for the marriage certificate to arrive. We won't tell a soul, though, and we'd do the bare bones paper signing as well. I think I'll still feel like the "real" wedding happens in Cuba this way. We've been going back and forth on this, but we'll have to make up our minds soon.

Hey ladies! not sure that I ever posted in here but I'm getting married April 26 at the Gran Bahia Principe on the Akumal beach!

We've got mostly everything done other than choosing the flowers and deciding on our OOT gifts. I've ordered my dress from a seller on Ebay and FI is going traditional beach wedding attire for men.

Are you having a full legal wedding in Jamaica, or just a symbolic wedding? Because if you're having a legal wedding there, then I think the woman was right that you don't have to get a marriage license locally - you would just have to use your marriage certificate and paperwork from Jamaica to register the marriage in the US.

However, if you're doing a symbolic wedding in Jamaica and a legal one in the US then you would have to go through the full process locally including getting the marriage license and registering in the US.

I'm sure there is another thread for brides who have been or will be getting married in Jamaica and they could give you better details than I can... but the comments above will hopefully get you started!!!
totally helps!!! thank you!!

Hello again Lovely Ladies!!!

We are doing the legal deed here, and not quite sure if we want before or after...but like some of you we are not telling anyone, as far as all the guests are concerned we will be legally married in Mexico :o)

I really have not been focusing on Wedding related stuffs at all...I've sort of took a huge hiatus from planning (what I thought was going to happen with the booking of a destination wedding, lol) but I'm starting to get back on track, so hopefully once I get into the thick of things I won't get overwhelmed!!

I do feel very productive this week, I made some boutonniere's, picked and ordered my BM's dresses (FINALLY) ordered my Mom's dress (I do not trust her to pick it out, awful but true!!)...and I think that's it, but it's better than nothing!!

I hope all is going well with everyone, I included a link to the bout thread I started for your opinions, and if you want step by step pics I think they are in post #26.... and here's a pic of my BM's dress as well!

Tracy: Thanks for the checklist, I haven't looked at it yet, but I saved it and I'm sure it will come in handy!! lol

Chat to you all soon and hope you all have a Fab weekend!

Hahahaha, you're not crazy at all!! we had decided to do the legal there...but then we decided to do the legal here...lol It could still change again!!!
I think we'll most likely do everything here, just so we can relax there and not have to worry about excess paper work, blood tests etc...

AND YES!!!!!!!!!! ALOE BOTTLES for MY OOT BAGS!!!!!!!!!
that's another thing off my list...and it's all thanks to Meghan!!!! hehe
I get so much done when she's around, I love it!!! lol

So, uh, Meghan, what are you doing tonight? lol
I just finished watching the LAST Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien...it was even kinda sad! Plus I'm soooo trying to resist the urge to open the bag of tostitos in the cupboard...at least they're whole grain, ugh I hate once a month cravings!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
