Maui or Kauai?

Hello! I have a dilemma that I'm hoping you all can help with. We know we want to go to Hawaii for our wedding/honeymoon but I can't decide between Maui and Kauai! We have never been to either but my FI is set on Kauai because he hears it's less touristy and is quieter. I seem to be finding more options on Maui though. Unfortunately, my FI is deployed to Afghanistan until October and can't really look online at any of the options/information so the decision is really left up to me. Has anyone been to both islands that can help me decidehuh.gif

Thank you for the help!

I've been to both islands. I absolutely love Kauai. It's my favorite island. It's wonderfully laid back and very quiet and intimate (<------- my siggy pic is taken in Kauai). But.... I chose Maui for our wedding (FI has never been), because it would make my life easier in terms of finding items for the wedding, there are more selection of vendors, and more selections of where to go, and what to do, for the guests (especially those with small children).

Both are equally beautiful.

I'd say it depends on what kind of wedding you are wanting to have, how many people you plan on inviting, and what kinds of activities you'll want to plan.

You may want to check out the Maui and Kauai Revealed books that you can get at any bookstore. They are a great resource for what is on the islands.

You could always get married on one island and honeymoon on the other! wink.gif

Good luck!

I third that motion.. get married on Maui where there are many more options for weddings and vendors.. and then if you want hop over to Kauai for the rest of your honeymoon where it's more quiet and romantic. That way you get the best of both!

We chose Kauai for the wedding/honeymoon because we're more laid back and wanted someplace quieter/less nightlife. I didn't find it hard to plan my wedding, but we only had 6 guests and we let everyone choose where they wanted to stay and for how long. If you have any specific questions, PM me.

Meridith Bronte wrote this article precisely for this kind of question.

Maui

Maui beaches are the most popular choice of location among couples looking to taste that “Hawaiian Experience”. Makena is one of the most scenic and beloved beaches on Maui. For garden weddings, the Lao Valley is the famed place. With its gleaming streams, alluring rock formations, and luscious greenery, it is one place that provides an enthralling ambiance fit for romantic weddings. Wailea is home to some of Maui's best luxury resorts, many of these resorts have an in-house wedding planner to coordinate weddings on site.

Kauai

For couples who are looking for that "eco-feel", Kauai is the ideal island, and certainly a beautiful choice for anyone that wants to get away. Kauai, is a quiet place off the beaten path where some of the most scenic beaches and mountains are situated. Many couples planning a ceremony choose Kauai because of it's untamed beauty and lush surroundings. Most of Kauai's buildings are not taller than a coconut tree.

For me, it would entirely depend on the kind of wedding you're aiming for. However for practicality, Maui for the wedding and Kauai for the honeymoon... cheesy.gif
