Do we need to postpone our DW?

Recommended Posts

I am a newbie here - I started searching for help when I knew things were going wrong with our planning and stumbled across this great forum. Well, now here we are, the end of May. We had a Wedding date of October 10th. We signed up with a travel agent/dw specialist in March who assured me we had plenty of time to plan an October wedding in the USVI. Then she came back with prices and we realized we couldn't afford that. 2nd choice, Jamaica. She brought us resorts & prices to choose from... we thought about it a bit. Our date wasn't available. We had to choose a new one. We made a decision. She went on vacation. Then she came back and sent "updated" price quotes. Huh? Then we made a "final" decision based on these "new" prices. Come to find out that the prices she quoted us "per couple" were actually PER PERSON. This doubled the cost to our families and friends. No go. Now it is less than 5 months from our chosen date...no STD's sent, no resort booked, nothing finalized. I am freaking out. Needless to say I fired her. Now I am starting to work with someone else who says I have ENOUGH TIME if we make some decisions quickly.

What do you think? I don't want to postpone. But I also want our friends and family to have enough time to plan to join us if they want to. Less than 5 months... is that enough time?

I want to scream, cry and throw things...censored.gif

Thanks for reading this... shitfan.gif

I think that you have enough time you just need to figure things out. The good thing about a destination wedding is that a lot of the things that take a lot of time to plan and deal with for a traditional wedding you don't have to do. Most of the resorts have their own vendors so you don't have to worry about about booking a lot of different groups for your date.

I'm about 6 months out and only two of my guests have booked so 5 months of plenty of time for your guests to decide.

I hope that helps! HANG IN THERE AND GOOD LUCK!!

Hi there, you can do it! We initially booked at a resort in December, and after a couple of frustrating months had to switch to a different resort. So by mid-February, we finally sent out our invitations. We're still getting married on our chosen date despite the inital complications, and in less than 4 months of planning :-)

Well...some do and some don't. Most of my family knows and my friends know. His friends and family are a little sketchy. FI isn't big on details and I know I personally haven't told his family. So...they most likely don't know. I should probably work on that... blush2.gif

Hi Kari!
We were going with Jamaica and were between the Riu Mo Bay and Sandals Mo Bay - - but now I'm really not sure... Jamaica sounds great to me, I've never been! I've always wanted to get married on a beach in paradise... How did you choose Ocho Rios?

This is what I am afraid of. We wanted to give them at least 6 months notice...now it will be about 4 months. I guess we'll decide this week and then it will be October.... or maybe February! :)
Either way I am sure it will all turn out for the best... We aren't inviting that many people and doubt we'll have more than 20 join us...but maybe less if not given enough time to plan...
Thanks for your response... we thought about a cruise too..that sounds really fun. Congrats!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
