so excited to be here

Welcome Morgan!

I lived in Atlanta for 9 years and tremendously miss it. I only moved away from there 6 months ago. I completely understand your hesitation to move before you get a ring. We were already cohabiting when Jim finished his Ph.D. and started job interviews all over the place. Of course, he thought I would go with him wherever he got a job which is actually not that simple for me since I have to be relicensed in whatever state I work. I actually decided that I wouldn't move until he made a greater leap in commitment but didn't tell him that. Luckily he proposed 2 months before receiving his first real job offer so we did not have to have that conversation. So I moved across the country and still do not have new hairdresser/nail place/dentist/job/etc... Do whatever you feel is right and it'll turn out just fine :) Two years of separation is hard but maybe he'll realize how much he misses you and cough up that ring! There are tons of direct flights between ATL and Dallas.

Anyways, you'll find tons of info on this forum. One of the things that'll help you narrow down a location is whether you want to use an AI or not.

Hi Rachelle! I am in the Dallas area also... which is interesting because Brian is in Atlanta. He left Texas in March (had to for his job) and will be there for 2 more years. I am definitely open to moving to ATL, but only want to do so once we are engaged and I have a job there. He would love for me to just move there now, but I'm fearful of cohabiting before the ring (because then maybe it will never come?) and would be more confident in moving if I had a great job to be excited about. I LOVE Texas and have lived here all my life... grew up in Fort Worth, went to school in Austin, lived in Houston shortly after college graduation, and now back in Dallas. My family, friends, favorite resturants, malls, hairstylist, doctors... etc (all the important stuff) is here, except him!
Hi again!
Sounds like you're a Texas girl at heart! :-) I totally understand not wanting to make such a big move w/o being engaged. But it sounds like that's the direction you guys are headed. . .so you may want to start checking out ATL! Lol!
You said he's there for 2 more years? Is he planning to move again after that? Back to Texas? Somewhere else?

Keep us posted on all the engagement talk! :-)

Welcome Morgan! Don't worry about finding a place - it'll happen! We changed our minds at least 10 times that I can think of, all different types of locations: Santa Fe, NM, Cabo, Anguilla (Cap Juluca), Las Vegas, back to Santa Fe, British Virgin Islands, back to Anguilla, Fort Worth (to make it easy!) and finally back to Cabo!

I wish I would have found this site a long time ago, so you're already in a good position to just read and gather ideas.

I'm in Fort Worth...so I know how you feel about Texas! My FI hates the weather (b/c he's from Albuquerque!)

Jill & Morgan (and anyone else in the DFW area!),

We are planning a Dallas BDW meetup here soon in the next couple of weeks. There is a thread about it under "Random Thoughts"

    • I have stayed at Dreams La Romana and Dreams Dominicus.  The two resorts are very different in style and decor. A few comparison points are below and fact sheets are attached for both.   Both resorts are approx 45 minutes from Punta Cana airport, close proximity to Saona Island, Catalina Island and Altos de Chavon. Top championship golf courses in the Caribbean are just minutes away including Teeth of the Dog, Dye Fore, The Links and La Estancia – all designed by world-famous Pete Dye. Restaurants are similar at both resorts.  Both offer the Explorers Club for Kids.  Dreams Dominicus  Brand new resort and in 2016 488 rooms (however additional construction was underway) More contemporary style & decor Good beach area Rooms were very nice Preferred Club located in main lobby and adjacent to main pool & beach front Food was good Center plaza area with nighttime entertainment Main lobby is small, but outdoor bar off lobby is nice Dreams La Romana Originally built in 2003 & opened as Dreams La Romana in 2008 756 rooms Recently renovated and new preferred club adults only lounge & pool added  Rooms are more traditional Caribbean decor Grounds are very lush and tropical Good beach area food was good    Dreams Dominicus fact sheet.pdf Dreams La Romana fact sheet.pdf
    • My sister has done it but with the destination wedding, only super close family members and friends came since it was expensive and farther. It was great though.
