Riviera Maya Honeymoon - Help!

Hi all!

We're trying to decide on a hotel for our honeymoon and looking for help! Here are the hotels (and rooms) that we are considering:

Rosewood Mayakoba - deluxe overwater lagoon

Fairmont Mayakoba - signature casita suite

Mandarin Oriental - deluxe palafito

The Tides - royal villa

Maroma Beach Resort - oceanview room

Banyan Tree Mayakoba - spa pool villa

Two of our main concerns are food (mainly variety -- we're not looking to travel offsite, so are concerned that there may not be enough options) and insects (most of these are carved into the jungle/mangroves, so we want to make sure that bugs aren't an issue).

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks!

How fun! Planning a honeymoon...

I've stayed at the Rosewood Mayakoba, the Fairmont Mayakoba and The Tides. The Tides is beyond romantic but the food options are extremely limited and it's very buggy. Very. The Fairmont Mayakoba in my opinion is a little "mass" produced and better for a wedding, not a honeymoon. Rosewood is extremely romantic and not buggy at all! It's a gorgeous hotel, very modern.

Hope that helps!

We are going to stay at the Tides. We visited it back in December and absolutely loved the intimacy of the litle bungalows lost in the jungle. The Spa is beautiful. We were not bothered by bugs at the time - nor in the hotel we get married in (Le Reve, which is 2 hotels away on the same beach). This might be because it was not hot yet, though, we'll see one month from now !

As for the food : the Tides is located on a beach where you have several other places that serve food. There's the Thai Beach Club of the hotel princess (5-10 min walk towards Cancun), it's typical cafe food - salads, burgers, sandwiches. There's the restaurant of Le Petit Laffite (just next door). And there's the restaurant from Le Reve (as I said, 2 hotels down towards Playa del Carmen). So if you're tired of the Tides, you can walk to each of these places for a change.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
