Living Wills

this is really a serious topic, last year my aunt passed away and her partner whom she had lived with for just under the common law time was totally screwed as her adult children forced him out of everything including money that was his.

while none of us wants to think about anything like this knowing who will take care of what is really important.

as a clarification, are we talking wills or living wills? isn't a living will what tells people how you wnat to be handled in terms of life support, etc. - not like a regular will which tells how to divide your assets, etc.?

oh sorry, both are important, my aunt did not have either and her boyfriend was not allowed to make any decisions, her children did. I think her BF knew her better than her kids, but that is my personal opinion.

Yes, a living will is a more detail of decisions of life support and medical decisions. A Will is just a simple Will that leaves your assets, kids, etc. to someone. A Power of Attorney gives a particular person the right to make any health care decision you may need in the event you are in a comma or something.

right, that's what i thought, i just got confused when we were talking about living wills, but then about assets being split up!

Sorry Ann I'm pretty sure I caused that decision. I actually have both and ned to ammend both now that I'll be a Mrs.!

yup - I need to get both, my mom has been on me for years - I just need to do it.
