After reading your PM I think you already know this, Cri, but for everyone else, I'll clarify.  I agree there is a mistake in the PDF Wedding Guide.  Juan Navarro sent me a word document with the price list for Secret's and it has Package 5 at $1100 with all other details the same.  It makes no sense that Package 5 would be more expensive than 6.

Photo package 4 -  $1030

Photo package 5 -  $1700 (???)

Photo package 6 -  $1300

But the package 6 has all included in the package 5 + all negatives and costs less ... I think there is a mistake

Who can confirm me that the cost to upgrade the photo package 3 included in the Ultimate package is exactly the difference between the packet choose and 724$?

For example :

upgrade the photo package 3 to the 5 is 1100-724=376$

upgrade the photo package 3 to the 6 is 1300-724=576$

Thank you

Maybe someone else has had experience with this.  I was telling Cri that Valeria told me if I wanted to upgrade my photo package I just had to pay the difference between the listed package prices plus 11% tax.  I have an updated contract showing the cost to upgrade from the photos included in the Ultimate Package to photo package 6 is $639 (Package 6 $1300 - Package 3 $724 + $63 (11% of the difference)).  Cecilia is telling Cri she'll only get $500 to put towards an upgrade in the photos.

$724 for package 1 plus 11% tax= $724 + $79.64 tax= $803.64 for package 1.

Package 6=$1300 w/o tax so, $1300-$800(package 1 w/tax) =$500 (plus tax not included yet).

So, You are upgrading to a package $1300. Tax on that is $143. The difference is the packages is $500.

IMO this is not the correct way to calculate this. The tax should not be added to the $724 to get the difference w/o it being added to the $1300 in the same calculation.

To get the $639, she took the $1300 and added the tax which is $1443. Then she subtracted the $724 plus tax ($79.64) which is $803.64.

So, she took $1443 (total package w/tax) and subtracted $803.64 (total package 1 w/tax). That brings you to $640.

This seems accurate IMO.

The problem seems to be that the two coordinators are not on the same page as far as how to calculate charges and credits. I think it can be very confusing so I get why, but clearly there is a miscalculation on someone's part. I am leaning more towards Cri's not being calculated correctly. She can't add the tax to one and not the other when calculating the difference.

I'm upgrading to special package 1, but I am double checking and there seems to be some type of problem with the math there as well (could be me though!)

The part included in the package isn't taxed, so it's just the difference that is used to calculate the tax.  Either way, you are correct in that the two coordinators don't seem to be on the same page.  I'm sure it gets confusing for them with all the substitutions we want to do.  I believe when they started, they didn't allow substitutions at all.  Obviously if they are going to allow them, they need to come up with a consistent plan on how they're going to handle it.  I guess this is why we need to get everything in writing.

CriCri:  My ceremony is symbolic (the paper work and fees to do it legal in Mexico are outrageous) .  But, I am also doing the sand ceremony.  I just want to make sure we have enough time after the ceremony but before the cocktail hour, which starts exactly 1 hour after the start of the ceremony,  to take pictures.  So, basically I want to have at least 30 minutes for pictures since I only get Juan or one of his team members for 1 hour.  Lol, I am a little nervous that this will all be extremely rushed.  But, we had to do it this way so we could get a reservation in one of the restaurants so we didn't have to pay for a reception.  I just did not want to do that since we already eat for free and now most of our guests have to pay $100 to even get in.  But, that is just me.

And I don't remember the name of the person that suggested the fans, but that is an excellent idea! Thank you :)

Speaking of paying $100 for guests to just get in,

am I the only one having a hard time understanding the external vendor fee?

We are getting our flowers from an outside vendor and our outside vendor is charging us a delivery/set up fee which is understandable, but then SMB is charging us a external vendor fee.  What is the point of the external vendor fee if the Resort is not even helping you set up the flowers - centerpieces, etc.

Is anyone else using an external vendor for their flowers and running into this issue?

I also agree it's hard to justify having to pay for a reception at an all inclusive, but our wedding group was too large to get any reservations so we had to.  Hope the food they make available for the private reception are at least a slight difference from what they serve all other guests that night.

It's getting a little frustrating now that it is coming down to the wire and we are working out the "money" details. =T

Annieweds: When is your wedding date?

If you are doing a private reception I believe you get to choose your menu. We are having a private reception and are choosing what is being served.

As far as the external vendor fee, we aren't using any external vendors simply bc I didn't want to have to pay additional and rack up more costs. Although ridiculous, I do think it's pretty standard to charge that. Even in my area locally, venues usually charge if you don't use one of their preferred vendors. I guess it's either an additional way to make money or discourage people from using outside vendors.

I keep telling my fiance that we need to get into the wedding business. There is some serious money to be made.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
