Kristina's Club Med Cancun Review 11-1-08

Recommended Posts

Hey Emily,

Ivan is Sharon's assistant. To contact her directly email her at [email protected].

If you tell her your budget I'm sure she can work with you. It's all about your choices really. If you get married before you come to Mexico, its cheaper than if you get married there. If you have less bridesmaides and groomsmen than I did (i had three) then it will be cheaper for flowers. I also had 6 parents to get flowers for. How many guest are you having?? I believe it is $4 a chair...maybe they can stand for the ceremony to cut down cost. The mariachi band was one of the hightlights of our ceremony. Everyone loved them....they were $600 and really worth every penny. I'm not sure how you could do the IPOD for the ceremony. There are two options on where to get married...either the grassy hill or the beach. I was set on to doing it on the beach until I got there...then we changed to the grassy hill because it was so stunning. But there isn't any sort of speakers or anything up there, so it will be hard to do an Ipod or to have your friend sing, unless he does it without a mic. If you have a small group then you might be able to do it at the La Chispa bar. We had thought about doing that as well...but it was to small of an area for 52 people. If you did it on the deck by the La Chispa bar you could use the ipod hook up there and I believe they have a mic there. They have never done a wedding there...but when I was questioning it they seemed to be okay with it.

The DJ we had for the reception really wasn't that great. He played good music, but wasn't good at telling everyone what was next...first dance...cake cutting...etc. But, check with Derek but I'm almost positive they didn't charge us for open bar for the reception because we used their DJ. But hey it might be cheaper if they do charge you for open bar than the DJ. If you cut out cocktail hour that will save you money too. I believe it was $4 per person for cocktail hour and that included appetizers.

To save cost I would also not get the $250 wedding cake, but get the $100 (i think that was the lowest). No one really ate the cake. We did a cupcake cake and it was barely touched. They have so much other food and deserts to choose from. Also, I choose the $25 per person buffet.....There are cheaper options.

Yes, there really is that much to do at Club Med. It really depends on how active your guest are. There is sailing, snorkling, skiing, wake boarding, dance classes, tons of workout classes (yoga, step, etc), flying trapeze, volleyball, kayaking, windsurfing, basketball, boccii ball, water aerobics, and then a bunch of other activities that change daily.

At night they have a show which is your typical cabaret type show. The circus show is the best. They have live music out under the stars almost nightly and the bars are always rockin. After the main bar closes the party continues at the La Chispa bar which turns into a night club at night until 2am. There really is no point on leaving and going to bars in town. The alcohol is free and the party is great. They definitely have more of a swanky feel than a sports club feel. Club Med is an European resort. Everything is really European and top notch.

Honestly, if you can make it work...you won't regret doing it at club med. Just talking about it now makes me miss it! I need to book another Club Med vacation! haha. I am thinking that my stay was cheaper because we got married out of season...November 1st. May is a really popular time. But 2,100 is a really good price for in season. How much will your guests rate be? Is it still $110 per person??

Hi Kristina!

WOW...thanks for ALL your help!! I just sent an email to Sharon, because I think the email Derek had given me was for Ivan - and he hasn't gotten back to me yet from last week...so, thanks for her email!

A lot of Club Med's activities you have to pay for, is that correct? Was it expensive?

Thanks for the tip on the wedding cake! I will def. keep that in mind! I love that you did cupcakes!

I am not sure how many people we are going to have...but somewhere between 40 - 75.

The rate for May 2010 is $148 per person per night.

Do you have more pictures up anywhere of the wedding? I would love to see more details, and pics of the reception, etc!

Thanks soooo much again!! ;o)

Hi emily,

Go to Digital Photo Printing, Free Online Photo Albums & Digital Photo Sharing - Snapfish: Username: [email protected] Password: clubmed and you can see all of our pics. I am in the process of uploading them onto photobucket so I can post them on here. The albums titled "....Kristina/Susan" are the professional pics edited. The rest our photos my guest uploaded.

As for the cost. No, you don't pay for ANYTHING. Literally you show up and leave without EVER opening your wallet UNLESS you buy something from the gift shop or get some sort of spa service. Besides that you don't pay OR tip at all. So if you guest pay lets say $450 to go...that is all they are paying. There is no additional taxes or tips included. $148 during May is a great price. Not that much more than what our guest paid (110) in November.

Hi Kristina!

Thanks for sending along your pictures! You looked so beautiful!! The resort does look really super nice!! Ugh...I really hope that Sharon can work with our budget and hopefully she gets back to be soon.

I will keep you posted! Our other choice is maybe Aventura Palace?? We would rather Playacar Palace over Aventura but they have an 80 person limit for the wedding...I am sure we won't go over it, but what if we do!?!? So, just to be safe I don't think we should do Playacar.

Thanks again!

Nope, the coordinator at Club Med took care of the reception. Sharon didnt think that I needed her and she was right...the reception went smoothly. The only part that sharon helped me with was letting be borrow a few items for my center pieces. But the people at club med set up the reception perfectly and the next day all of my items were returned to my room. It all went really smooth.

Hows your talks with Sharon going? Are you going to go with Club Med?

Oh, ok...cool!

Yea, you're right, she is GREAT with responding...I haven't heard from her in a couple days though, but I had asked her a bunch of questions so I think she's probably trying to get together an answer. I STILL don't know what to do...I do really like the resort, the ceremony site if so nice too - and I like it better than what I saw of Playacar Palace's, but the wedding would cost more at Club Med - mainly because so much is included in the palace wedding packages...but even still, I think the Club Med one MIGHT still be in our budget...we are hoping to get the wedding and our stay and rings for $10,000. Not counting my dress because I think my mom will pay for that! BUT...we do still have to think about those welcome bags for the guests. urgh...I will keep you posted! ;o)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
