Legal "Ceremony" or Just to Sign Papers...

Recommended Posts

Well, since your grandparents aren't going to be at the DW that would work out pretty well! I think you need witnesses anyway, right?

I am trying to figure this out too. My grandma can't make it to our DW and it would be neat to have her there, but she is out of town so that won't work too well. Not sure what to do!

i also live in NC. you need two witnesses. you go in & sign some papers. but then you go to the clerk & saw vows. there was even a "you may now kiss the bride" part.

What about having the gparents be your witnesses? the only problem was we had a lot of walking to do that day from one courthouse to the next & up and down stairs.

we went with 2 friends who couldn't attend the wedding. we just made a fun/ silly day out of it. afterwards we went for lunch.

it didn't take away a single bit of our wedding day. nothing could have taken away from that day. it was too great.

I loved legal day. it was like having one more wonderful day to celebrate.

Since we are doing a Mayan/Cosmic ceremony for DW, we will have a christian blessing by a pastor/priest to please my mother. There are different blessing depending on which denomination your officiant is.

From what I have been told they actually do this a lot in cases where the couple was married in one faith but wants to be blessed by another; eg Bride is Catholic, Groom is Baptist. Right now I leaning towards a non-denominational minister.

Don't you have to have a legal 'ceremony'? Even if it is completely non-romantic ''I do's'' or does it vary state by state? I am so completely confused about all of it but I think I'm doing the right thing as far as Oregon goes-- we're getting our marriage license and then a judge or minister has to 'marry us' and sign it and we take the marriage license back and its official. We are going to have my FI's grandparents, best man and mother there. My parents live out of state so they can't come and it makes me feel a little bad but the bottom line is we are considering our DW our 'real' wedding but are inviting his g-parents because they can't go to Mexico and he is very close with them. His best man can't go and is really upset so we invited him. We are doing it at the courthouse one afternoon and will do an early dinner after it. I don't think it will take away from the DW. It might even take a little edge off, I am a huge cry baby and am so worried I'll be a blubbering mess. Hoping the legal ceremony will get the crying (blubbering) out of the way!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
