I found this review for a Grand Oasis wedding and thought I would post....

We GOT MARRIED at the Grand Oasis on June 7th, 2008. I've never had more fun in my entire life, and my husband and our families feel the same. There were 13 adults (including my husband and me) and 5 children that stayed June 3 - 10th. We booked through Worry Free Vacations and I can't speak for the other travel agencies, but when you book through Worry Free you get what you pay for. We stayed in the pyramid and our families were in the ocean-front building on the "adult" Grand Oasis side. Aside from 3 of the adults, this was everyone's first time in Cancun and we were not disappointed at all. We all had the black wristbands (except for the kids of course) and we had run of the entire resort. After I read some of these reviews I was extremely worried since I'd already planned & paid for our wedding and our families' trips but I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, the ocean was awesome and the pools were amazing. Some of the food left something to be desired, but I kind of expected this with it being all-inclusive. We loved the breakfast! It was the best food and our favorite meal of the day. Some of the fruity mixed drinks didn't have much alcohol in them, but if you got a real drink (Whiskey Sour, for instance) you could definitely taste the alcohol. The best bar (for drinks) that we found was the nicer one located inside of the pyramid building. We all referred to this as the "snooty bar" as an inside joke because you didn't see any kids or people in swim suits in here. It was nice to hang out here before or after dinner and the drinks were strong. As everyone else suggests - it doesn't hurt to tip the bartenders and servers a dollar or two. We took 100 $1 bills and I think it made a world of difference.

We kept EVERYTHING in the safe, except of course our laptop because it wouldn't fit. But passports, cash, jewelry, travel documents... anything that we could not easily replace went in there every time we left that room. My brother and sister-in-law did get their watches stolen which really sucks but they knew there was nothing they could do because the Grand Oasis puts a sign in every room stating that they are not responsible for valuables left outside of the safe. No one else had anything stolen. We left the maid $1 every day and she really took care of us. We also left $1 inside of the fridge every day for the guy who refills the drinks, along with a note requesting what we wanted, but he wouldn't take the money! He always left us what we asked for, though.

We didn't get the complimentary upgrade to a suite that we were told we would get for having the wedding there, but our room was nice enough. We didn't spend a lot of time in our room anyway. We had no problems with our air conditioner or the room smelling like sewage. The rooms and hallways in the other 4 buildings did have a faint smell sometimes, but it wasn't that bad. We did have some really green water out of the faucet one morning after a storm, but other than that it was clear and odorless. The electricity went out twice but we called the front desk and they had it fixed both times within 5 minutes... not a big deal at all.

I'm having a really hard time figuring out some of these reviews. I'm not saying these people are making up the problems or anything, but they must have different expectations than those who had good experiences, or they just had really bad luck. It just seems strange that some people can have a great time and others are absolutey miserable. I'm usually pretty picky but I couldn't have been happier here. If you're really laid back, don't care to spend a lot of time in your room & want to save some money - stay in the oceanfront Grand Oasis building. If you're a little picky - stay in the pyramid (you still get an AWESOME view... see attached pics.) If you're REALLY picky and you want to be waited on hand and foot... take it on down the road to the Ritz or something & be prepared to pay for it.

I have a feeling I'm forgetting to write so much, but I could just go on and on. We honestly had the best vacation ever and we can't wait to go back. We're already planning for next year!

Yes, like 5 times! I liked it, wasnt the best ever but has the perfect property and nice people and has super great deals! Yes it has some bad reviews, but then again Im not super bitchy/nitpicky on little things. On vacation, I am seldomly in the room anyway. However I die to find any review for weddings there! My WC SUCKS and says they do not contact brides until one month before wedding. I have only found like 2 reviews for weddings there.

The WC Sent me some wedding pictures that totally turned me off! It's in the Gazebo, and I want the beach. The gazebo is poorly decorated and the people on the photos look miserable.

I'm so fed up of looking for the perfect resort with the perfect price!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
