Okay so this may be a confusing question but here it goes....I'm a flight attendant and once my fiance and I get married he will have unlimited flight passes. As a gift to our parents and siblings we would like to fly them down to our wedding on my passes so we plan on getting married before we go to Mexico. Here's the confusing part; We're getting married in June '09 and I just realized my passport expires Apr '09. If I renew my passport should I put my married name and change everything before? Or if I renew it under my old name will it cost extra to change it to my married name after the Mexico Wedding Ceremony? Another thing that concerns me is will the resort not consider it a valid wedding if I'm already "married"? I hope this is making some sort of sense.....thanks for your info and advice.

Once you change your name you have to pay to have your passport updated (new photo too).

I would renew your passport with your current name. That way you don't have to stress about changing everything before you leave. When you return and your officially married, you can change your last name for no fee up to 1 year after your married.

I would wait until after the wedding to change your name. Especially since it is free to change your passport anyway within the first year.

You can change your passport within a year. If you get married before your ceremony in Mexico than you would have a symbolic ceremony instead of a legal one. I think the ceremony is basically the same but you won't be required to have blood tests, get any documents translated, and you would need to bring your marriage license. At least at my resort that would be the case. a lot of girls get married legally here first because it's cheaper and less of a hassle with legalities once you get home like name changes.

my passport expired in april and our dw was in february. i didn't want to chance it, so i applied for a new passport in my maiden name. now that we're married, i have to apply for a name change at no cost, except for new pictures.
