I know there are a lot of posts regarding photography but I still am a bit confused on pricing, and how to know who to chose? What are most of you paying for your photographers? I thought about just having our family and friends take a bunch but I feel like we'll regret it if we don't have a pro. We're getting married on January 7, 2009 at the Barcelo' Maya Palace (Riviera Maya) Any feedback ladies? cheesy.gif

I was planning on going that route too. But, I was really worried aobut it. I love pictures & I hated to trust that people would be taking good ones. I didn't want to be stressed about wanting pictures to be taken & seeing none of our guests were taking them. We took our engagement pics with a friend & I like how they turned out, but it's much harder than having a photographer. It's nice to have someone tell you where to stand & catch things that a non-pro wouldn't. I know I'm going to cherish these wedding pics so I'm so happy we went with a pro.

I could tell I was not OK with the decision to not have a photographer because when I booked one I felt a huge relief. There are so many wedding things I cut corners on or did cheap & i can tell I'm totally at peace with those decisions. Not having a photographer would have been something I regretted.

if your asking how to choose a photographer, then maybe the images are not that hi of a priority and what it all comes down to is expectations.

does not matter if you pay $500 or $15000 for wedding photography, the only thing that matters is that your happy with your images and your expectations have been met.

i would hope that both happiness and met expectations are found somewhere before $15000. ;-)

To give you an idea of cost: my WC had booked a photographer through her who was going to charge us $450 for 2 hrs of coverage and just the pics on a CD, unedited.

I realized that I really wanted to feel more comfortable - I saw his site and didn't like the pics at all.

If you're spending money anyway, you should really be happy with what you're booking.

Our range was under $1000. I was trying to get something for $900. I managed to get 3.5 hrs of coverage for $950 with some prints and a CD of our selected images from Vanessa Vargas. I had a look at her website and liked what I saw.

I also really loved Cecilia Dumas and she was in our range, but we had some communication troubles and I just wanted to get it all booked and out of the way.

Honestly, if I had the $4000 sitting around I'd go that route. I really think photography is worth it, but we just don't. :)

Good luck!

For us photography was a top priority and as a result we decided that the best way to capture everything we wanted while we were in Mexico was to have someone travel with us. Yes it's more money but for us it was an opportunity to use a great photog team (Visual Cravings) and get pics of us, our families and friends throughout the entire week!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
