Avalon Reef Club, Isla Mujeres

Recommended Posts

Does anybody know anything about this resort? Avalon Reef Club Isla Mujeres

Any wedding related info would of course be especially helpful!

I kind of have my heart set on Dreams Cancun but I am trying to still explore other options in case that doesn't end up working out for me... and this place looks quite nice, and unique, actually.

Its one of the only all inclusive resorts on the island ( in factit might be the only one.)

I was looking into having my wedding on Isla Mujeres at first, before deciding to move it to Playa Del Carmen. I love that Island though! While I was looking I heard a lot of people say that the beach is pretty much gone due to the hurricanes. I would look into that. Maybe they have restored it. TripAdvisor.com has LOTS of great review about the hotels on that island. Good luck!

The pictures online look stunning, but the reviews on tripadvisor are not so great... but would love to hear from anyone who's had a wedding there about their experience.

I emailed them yesterday about private reception pricing, I'm probably expecting around 50 guests. I'll post their response as soon as I get it!

Hello Ladies,

I am not looking into this place for my wedding- BUT i will be staying there On june 5th-9th when I head down to check out paradisus among others. My friend suggested it as a more quiet relaxing option away from Cancun. I will take pictures for you and post it when I return. I got a deal on Orbitz and the flights from NYC to CUN are way high right now so this place appealed to me.

As far as the email she sent you- It's basically room rates for the AI option which are in USD. I am not doing the AI option when I go dowm because my friend said that isla mujeres has tons of really cute, quaint inexpensive options.

sencilla=single

doble=double

triple=tripple room occupancy

She also mentions that form April-July 5th rates are lower and after that they go up becuase of the season. I hope this helps and I will post pics when I come back for you.

I don't have any information about having a wedding there but I visited this hotel back in 2005 and it was gorgeous. The water was ankle deep and a beautiful green-blue color for miles out. They also have great snorkeling. However, I don't know what it is like now. It is so exposed I can imagine a hurricane would seriously cause some damage.

It also takes a little while to get there. Once you fly into Cancun, you have to take a drive to the dock to get on a boat to go out to the island. Then get a cab to get over to the hotel. To get there, you have to go over this tiny bridge that I swear I didn't think a car was meant to drive over. It was fine though. Again that was 3 years ago so I don't know how things have changed but overall it was an awesome AI resort. Plus you will have access to the Avalon Grande in Cancun. That is where my fiance and I stayed when we were there.

I have some pictures but I need to figure out how to post them huh.gifhuh.gifhuh.gif

Hello there,

I stayed at the Avalon Reef club for only 2 nights and did not take any pics of the place- sorry. My thoughts are as follows...

Cons:

-It seemed a little run down and there was a stinky smell in the main lobby- so bad that the elevators and surrounded areas smelled of major air freshner.

- Although ther is an AI option we did not do that we wanted to explore Isla mujeres which is lovely. We did have breakfast one day but I really don't enjoy buffets that much and can say the food did not look too appetizing.

- While it is on north beach which is gorgeous there is very little of it left on Avalon reef itself. We walked across the bridge and enjoyed the beach from that side- there are also chair rentals and bars etc.

- The room was basic and small. Nothing special- that could be a pro or con.

Pros:

- very affordable

- friendly staff

- clean room

- great parking if you rent a golf cart (which is how many get around the island)

Sorry I didn't take any pics. PM if you have any more questions.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
