I was just wondering how everyone did their inviting. What is the norm for DW? Did you do STDs and regular invitations? Also, if you were planning on have a reception when you returned home how did you do the invites for that? I want to give people enough notice so that they can save/plan for the trip.

Here is my plan for now… We are getting married May 31, 2008.

STD magnets- Mailing February 2007

States: the date and invitation to follow

Invitations- mailing May 2007?

I want to give people enough time to save/book their trip. What type of info should be listed? Do I just do the RSVP cards and whoever returns with a yes, I send them the info (i.e. Travel agent, pricing, options)? I also want to put on there if they arenâ€t able to make it we understand, but we plan on having a backyard reception/party when we return.

Reception (Home) - Mail end May 2008

Plan on having the reception last weekend in June (4th of July is that following Friday) What type of invite should be used for this? I want something casual. For our engagement party we just sent out invites that were printed on 8.5x11 papers from a craft store with something imprinted in the background. I want it to state ‘Just Married†and details of the party. Should there be a RSVP # or a return card?

Not sure what we are exactly doing. Nothing formal. It will be outside, probably backyard. Maybe even a barbecue, thatâ€s still up in the air.

Any ideas/tips are appreciated.

I think a year before it's too early to send invitations.. if something comes up or you want to change some wording.. or the time of the ceremony, etc. you will not be able to change it.. I would suggest waiting to at least 6 months before the wedding and you can send the magnet STDs with attached information in a separate sheet with the travel agent and hotel info..

Just my opionion, hope this helps..

I sent out STDs a few weeks ago for my June '07 wedding. In there was the date, location, travel agent info., website info., and stated that invites would follow.

I will send out my invites about 8 weeks ahead of time, and have the usual RSVP cards, and probably more location info.

kelly I think that while its awesome you are on top of it, I can tell you from experience your plans might change, I sent out save the dates about 10 months before (just in time for people to start booking) and then within two months we actually changed our plans, so now we are sending out entirely new save the dates.

Sending out invites a year early is a little bit too early, I would think the STD's would be better sent out a little later this spring and then send your invites right before the holidays next year. You could send out the invites to your AHR in April or so?

Thanks girls for all of your responses. We haven't book the wedding yet, so I might be a little ahead of myself. But I'm the type of person that likes to plan way ahead before I do anything.

Do a lot of people direct their family/friends to their website for more information rather then listing everything on an invite? I wanted to maybe let my guests know the price range for the wedding, how would I go about doing that or do I leave that up to the travel agency?

Kelly,

Put all that on your website and then direct them to it. As you start to build it send out an e-mail to a group of people and let them take a look at it. If you look at our STD thread you will see that we all put the basic info and then let them find out the other stuff through our TA's and Websites.

It's great you are so ahead of the game, but you have plenty of time and you don't want to send things out to early and people either lose them or forget the date right?

I sent out my std's right after new years for my october wedding. In the std's I put all the TA's info to contact and a few other pieces of information. I know that my family and friends don't have tons of money so they will need as much notice as possible to save the money for the trip. I also figured if I got them out before tax time people would have money from their taxes to use towards booking their trip. I'll be sending the invitations about 12 weeks ahead of time so I can get a final count and make my final decisions. A lot of my decisions with the resort are going to depend on how many people are actually coming.

My wedding is July 4, 2008 and I am planning to send out my invites March 2007. I know this is ridiculously early but my FI and I have a lot of friends that are engaged and getting married and we are scared that someone will also do their wedding on that date. Also, we need to give our friends and family plenty of notice so that they can save up. I also thought of the tax returns and I think this way people will have two tax seasons to save up. I am sending magnets so hopefully people will just throw them on their fridge and not lose them.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
