I think we solved the original question & have moved on. Don't worry, your mom & I have your wedding all taken care of. You just need to show up. I promise, we won't make it tacky.

Sorry to interrupt this hilarious conversation with a serious answer, but one other tip: Williams-Sonoma also owns Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, Pottery Barn Teen, Williams-Sonoma Home, and West Elm. Though not all concepts have registry, you can register at one and, if you return things, you can use your merchandise credit at any of the stores. So, you could register for stuff at Williams-Sonoma (I recommend knives; expensive, small, and don't go on sale so easy to return) and take all your credits and buy a piece of furniture at Pottery Barn or West Elm.

I think you should register for things you want/need from one of your fav stores, the guests usually know to attach or include a gift reciept and you can go return it and get the $$$! If no reciept, find out what store and switch it in for something you love! Just an idea, but it wouldn't hurt to just ask either...

Thank you all SO much for giving me some direction with this!

I didn't get a chance to read this till this morning and OMG I laughed so loud that I woke my son up!

I agree I would NEVER outright ask for cash, ask for people to buy a ticket to come to our wedding (My God - they are paying so much to come anyway) or insert a BBB card in my invite.

My dad's wife's son had "money tree" on their invitations and I thought that was the tackiest and most classless thing ever!

Tacky Junior - you just keep them DIY projects coming honey! We love you! You are such a good sport! Maybe you can post some directions on how to make origami doves with all of our BBB inserts!

I am off to Bed Bath and Beyond to register! Thanks guys!

OK here is my template

And my idea:
I will send my guests that template along with their invites & a BB&B insert folded into a dove. I will also send them the "fable of the dove" that I am writing. It is a tale about how when someone sends you an oragami dove you should send them back an oragami dove folded from money. Preferably large bills. Then you will recive good luck for 7 years.

Did I find the politest way to ask for money? I think I did. Feel free to "borrow" my ideas.

PS - that invite is insanely TACKY
I wouldn't put it past you. Always abusing your mod powers :)

My title is gone. Do you know what happened? Did the member of the month thing replace my title? It said "Photoshop Addict."

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
