Hello Ladies, I'm a newbie here and I need some help. I am planning a wedding for October/November 2017 for around 80 people. Could be more could be less. First of all half of these guests are actually from Puerto Vallarta part of the decision to hold our wedding their in the first place. 2nd of all I have a relatively small budget considering I have so many guests. I'm thinking our budget anywhere from 8,000 to 9,000 dollars.(Also FYI I don't know anything about weddings and only what I've read on some other posts) Does anyone think this can be done or should I cut my losses and decide to do it elsewhere. I don't need luxury I just want a beautiful wedding like any other lady here. And if anyone thinks it can be done can anyone point me to Venue's or places to look into. I don't mind if it's off the beaten path and actually would prefer it. Any suggestions?, or am I out of luck?

Hi Everyone. I recently got engaged and am looking to get married in the Dominican Republic. Both my fiance and I are of Dominican background and having the wedding there would just be amazing since our families living in the Dominican would be able to attend. I have been looking at Now and Dreams resorts in Punta Cana. I also have looked at JellyFish and Huracan restaurants. I am so lost! I have no idea where to start. I was wondering if anyone here is using any of these venues? Maybe you can help me go in the right direction. We plan on getting married August 2017. also, Is anyone here a UVC member? My fiance and I got a membership and were wondering if they offer any further discounts for any of the AM resorts. Any information from anyone would be extremely helpful! Thanks in advance and happy planning!

How We Met While on a world-wind trip throughout Europe, my friend reached out to me saying that she had a great match for me when I got back to Ottawa. At the time I truly didn’t want anything to do with thinking about my time back home, or guys back home for that matter, so I shrugged it off……. Once I returned from Europe, the topic of having to meet Eric was brought up again by my friend, so I finally said “why not?”. Our friends ended up inviting Eric and myself for an afternoon of bowling. Eric was nothing like the guys that I had previously dated, so honestly wasn’t sure if he was truly my type. I thought to myself “my type hasn’t been working, so maybe I should pursue him!” My intuition was right. We ended up seeing each other every day for a week and a half straight. Shortly after we started officially dating! Our Travels Travel has always been a big part of my life. Throughout my childhood, I was lucky to experience many different destinations and trips with my family. Florida, California, Arizona, and even a cruise to the Caribbean. This must have planted the travel bug. I have always had a passion to explore, adventure, and see the world. Once I met Eric, I was surprised as to how little he had traveled. My goal was to change this, and explore the world together… Our first big trip was a 2 month trip, across Canada. We went all the way to the East coast of Canada, and then back through all of Canada to the West Coast, as far as Vancouver Island. On our way back, we drove through the top part of the United States, so that we could experience something a little bit different. This entire trip of 20,000km was done in our 2001 Pontiac Sunfire. We slept together in tents, at friends’ places, couchsurfing with strangers, and even in the trunk of the car with the backseat pulled down, in Walmart parking lots! Spending all of this time so close together truly was a relationship tester. We always joke that if we could get through those two months, we could get through anything! We have also traveled on a separate trip to Newfoundland with one of my Best Friends Ellyn, and her parents! That in itself was an adventure. This was Eric’s first time on a plane since he was a little kid. Thankfully Porter offers complimentary beer and wine, so his fear of flying was drowned with a few cans of Steamwhistle! We also started geocaching together on this trip. For those of you who don’t know, Geocaching is a worldwide treasure hunt, using a GPS application on your smartphone, to find hidden objects around the world! It’s a great way to discover a city that you’ve never explored, or to get to know hidden gems in a city. We have also gone on three separate trips down south to Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico. Nothing better than a fun week filled with sun, sand, alcohol, and delicious eats! Our most recent trip was probably the most adventurous! We backpacked throughout the northern and central parts of Europe. We visited the Irish cliffs, saw Big Ben in London, said hello to the Eiffel Tower in Paris, watched the Mannekin Pis (and his sister Jeannekin Pis) in Brussels, ate tasty mussels in Brugges, went for a stroll in the countryside of Belgium in Kalken, experienced my birthday in the Red Light District of Amsterdam, went to a German Beerfest in Hannover, saw a Comedy Show at Tipi-Land in Berlin, went to a Swedish Hockey game in Malmo, visited the most amazing beach near Esbjerg (it’s 5km wide, and 16km long!), and cheered on the local ‘football’ team in Copenhagen. The most amazing part about this trip is it’s when we got engaged! Our Engagement While on our European Adventure in the fall of 2015, we decided to go geocaching in Berlin. We hunted for geocaches throughout this park in the middle of the city. We ended up in an area with ponds, and a lovely little stream, willow trees, and birds chirping. We ended up splitting ways, to find the geocache. Little did I know, Eric found the geocache first, while I was completely in the wrong area, taking pictures because it was so gorgeous! I followed the coordinates and wound up near this bridge, where Eric was hunting and told me he found it! He went under the bridge to retrieve the geocache, and passed it to me to open. I looked through, had him sign the log, and just as I was about to put it back, I noticed a white folded piece of paper. I opened it up to read it, and I honestly thought it was for someone else…. Until I saw my name at the bottom. With a small fence in between us (haha) there was Eric on one knee with a ring in hand. My initial reaction was that it was a joke, and it wasn’t real but reality eventually set in and I said yes! That evening, we ended up going to a lovely Thai restaurant for dinner, where we were the only ones in the restaurant! Following dinner we wound up at a local smoky bar, with a live jazz jam where people who had never even played together jammed the night away! Let’s just say it was a memorable day, and evening! The Wedding Planning Being an event planner myself, something I've strangely never wanted to plan was my own wedding. It's a job to me, and to be honest, I really didn't want to have to deal with all of the little details. My first little bit of wedding planning involved looking around the Ottawa area. I personally wanted a more outdoor venue, with a waterfront, as a beach wedding was always a dream, but my parents weren't too keen on a destination wedding at first. The other issue was looking for a venue that also had a hotel nearby, or on-site. This was quite tricky... We found one venue that worked, but the quote came back with a sky-rocketed price-tag. This lead me to start thinking about destination weddings again. The ease of being able to plan the wedding, with the guidance of a planner to take care of all the details for me, seemed quite attractive. I saw an ad for Luxe Destination Weddings, who proved to be quite helpful. I took a couple months of back and forth with the Travel Agent to figure out what resort would work best for us. We toyed with Mexico, Dominican Republic, Bahamas, and Jamaica, but since food was really important, we narrowed things down to Mexico, as they have the most refined food, since the USA is so close. The first quote that intrigued us was the Royalton Riviera Cancun, but the price was extremely high, so we wanted to see what other options were out there. Our second choice that seemed quite intriguing was the Grand Sunset Princess, but it just wasn't quite right.... We then saw the Azul Fives, which was gorgeous, but for the number of people we expect to attend, we couldn't use the Pier that was my dream wedding location. I reverted back to our travel agent and asked for a new quote for the Royalton Riviera, and the price had gone down significantly. We decided to book!!! From there, we decided on a departure date of May 6th, 2017 and a wedding date of May 9th, 2017. We will be getting married directly on the beach, followed by a dinner reception at the Nautica Beach Bar. We're expecting about 40 people, and are super excited. I had my first call with the destination Wedding Planner from Luxe Weddings, who started to go into the details of exactly what I want for the wedding. Wedding Colours Here's what I'm thinking for wedding colours. A midnight Charcoal Grey/Blue for the bridesmaids, with a deep coral and yellow/white accents, which will hopefully be incorporated into the bouquet too! I love starfish too, so hoping to incorporate those into the mix as well. That's basically where I'm at right now, but i'll definitely be updating as the date approaches! If you've had your wedding here, I'd be really excited to see some pictures for ideas. Especially the Nautica Beach bar, all done up. It's hard to find pictures!!

So I just realized there wasn't a dedicated Hyatt Ziva/Zilara Rose Hall thread. I wanted to share a few things with fellow brides since it is a relatively new resort. My wedding will be on April 23, 2017 at the Hyatt Ziva. I have attached the ceremony locations, packages and a picture I found online of a ceremony set up at the sky lounge. I have been asked about the resort a few times so I would love to share what I know with others who may be in the early stages! Hello, I'm new to this blog site and recently engaged this month. We have chosen, what we believe to be, a less stressful and the least expensive route of a cruise beach wedding. We are crushing Carnival Sensation Feb 2017. The cruise leaves out of Miami and docks in Ocho Rios, Jamaica and Grand Cayman. After speaking to Carnival the amount of money charged only covers a few things. A vendor, who is responsible for the decor and other essential items, charges a separate pricing for those items. We are looking to have 20 guest to sail with us. Has anyone cruised and participated or participating in an upcoming beach wedding offered by Carnival? What did you all do immediately after the beach wedding? Are there some things I need to watch out for or hidden costs or hiccups? What are your experiences? All feedback is welcomed.

Hi- I am just starting to look at options for our wedding, we have not set on a date. I've always wanted a fall wedding but when we decided on Mexico that killed the fall idea. What are some of the best times to go (outside of hurrican season) ? I am looking for an adults only , all inclusive place that has somewhere other than on the beach to do our vows. I've fallen in love with The One & Only Pamilla but sadly can't afford it there. Something similar would be idea, we are thinking about 50 guests. All suggestions are appreciated!

Hello! Just beginning to plan my destination wedding and don't even know where to start. Here is what I do know... I want to go somewhere warm and beachy but I don't want to get married on the beach. I am looking for an all-inclusive resort but don't want to break the bank. I'm traveling from Massachusetts and also have 2 children under 5 but will have my whole family for help. My mom is a teacher and I do need to work around a regular school schedule so thinking possibly February vacation for April vacation. I'm thinking possibly Mexico or the Dominican. We have a rather small group that will be attending. That's pretty much all I have and I'm open to any suggestions. I feel so confused in this world and want to set things in stone so we can start saving. Help! Becca

I didn't see a thread started for brides getting married at the Royalton Riviera Cancun in 2016/2017 so I figured I would start one! I figured this would be a great way for each other to compare notes, and answer each others questions. I'm just finalizing booking with Luxe Weddings and am planning on booking the Royalton Riviera Cancun for May 2017! I'm looking at either getting married on the beach, or the Sky Deck, followed by a reception at the Nautica Beach Bar, or directly on the beach! What are you guys doing??

Hello! Recently engaged and planning on a beach wedding in May 2017. We plan to rent a condo on the beach and use a planning company to set up the arbor. We will have less than 10 people in attendance, so no chairs. My dad will likely walk me down the aisle, but from where?! Does everyone watch us walk all the way from the parking lot/condo to the altar? This seems so awkward! Does anyone have ideas on how to make this less awkward? Thank you!!!

Hello everyone! I am very new to this site and I already love it! The advice I've found for OOT bags has been so helpful! I'm getting married in Tybee Island, GA. I live several states away, but I have been lucky enough to make a couple short trips recently. Any advice about vendors (I still need a caterer), and the overall process would be welcome! Thanks!

How We Met So a bit of a back story on myself. I will cut straight to the chase by saying I has a life changing event when I was 25. I was planning a trip of a lifetime by myself, a cruise of the Greek islands and right before I left I woke up with a painful lump in my breast. Fast forward 6 months and I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. I went through chemo, radiation, double mastectomy and reconstruction surgery all within the span of a year. I was single at the time and while I stayed positive throughout everything I thought I would never find someone that would want to be be with me as I wasn't whole ananymore. It took seven years for me to work on building up my self esteem and self worth again before I was even remotely ready to start to date again. About 3 years ago I decided I was finally ready but didn't have I lot of opportunities to meet new people so like a lot of people now I went online. Let me tell you I met a lot of winners (and not the good kind)! I was just about to give up when Alec messaged me. He seemed so sweet and was so thoughtful about what he wrote and bonus he actually took the time to read my profile! He was and still is super shy but slowly he came out of his shell with me. He planned awesome dates, going to concerts, taking me to a boardgame cafe (I have a secret boardgame obession), going bowling, among other things. When we kissed for the first time it was magical. I know it sounds crazy but after the first few dates I knew he was the man I was going to marry. We both have the craziest things in common, the food we eat (cheeseburgers plain, meat and cheese, nothing else lol), we love hockey, we both love boardgames (even though he kicks my butt everytime), we both read up on movies after we watch them, I could go on forever lol! The Proposal So we had talked about marriage and went ring shopping in the Fall so I knew it was coming but didn't know exactly when. That day came on Christmas eve. He told me he chose Christmas because he knew how much I loved it and wanted it to be extra special. Alec is very shy and simple kind of guy so after I conned him into getting my gift early (eve instead of day) because that's what I do every Christmas. He grade my hand and hugged and kissed me lots and simply said I love you so much and will you marry me. It was simple yet beautiful and the best day of my life! The ring he chose wasn't one I had chosen but I'm so glad! He listened to everything I liked and chose something he thought fit the criteria which meant the world to me. Right after the proposal we went to my family gathering and it was so awesome to share the news with my family! I will never forget how I felt that night, I was on cloud nine. Let the planning commence! I was so happy just to be engaged but people kept bombarding me with questions , when are you getting married, where, etc and this was the night I got engaged! I felt super overwhelmed super fast. Saying yes was the easiest part. All I knew is I wanted a destination wedding. Finding a Travel Agent This was the easiest part for me as my Aunt is a TA. What I lo ed about this is the fact that I already had someone that I trusted with I feel is extremely important for a destination wedding. She always answers my emails and very promptly as well. Even if it might take her a few days she sends me warning so I'm not left hanging. Maybe it could be the fact that I know where she lives and I could hunt her down but I like to believe it's just her high standard of customer service. Picking the Resort The big thing for me was I wanted affordability without sacrificing quality in the resort. So my Aunt when immediately wentry to work and suggested 3 Mexico locations, Puerto Vallarta, Cabo, and Riviera Maya. She presented me with about 6 resorts in total with varying prices. Due to the Canadian Dollar taking a plunge the quotes weren't as cheap as I would've liked but in the end it was still way cheaper to chose Mexico versus a home wedding in Winnipeg. I within a week I narrowed it down to either Cabo or Riviera Maya. I ultimately chose the Grand Sirenis in Riviera Maya for a few reasons. They had a free wedding package, the resort was absolutely gorgeous, the prices for children were really reasonable and Riviera Maya was the only place I haven't been to in Mexico. Needless to say I was excited to say within a week I had made our decision (FI said whatever I wanted he was good with). Well I was excited until my TA came back and burst my bubble saying that Grand Sirenis has decided as of 2016 to eliminate the Free Package. I was devastated because we were on a tight budget I wasn't sure we could afford it. I immediately did up spreadsheet of all the costs so I would have a more realistic idea of the total cost because let's face it you have to pay extra for everything! In the end we were very fortunate that both sets of parents totally stepped to help us out which I'm forever in their debt. I was trying to previously plan the whole wedding ourselves without help except for the dress which my parents had previously said they would cover. Once the $500 deposit was paid to the resort and the $400 deposit for the Bride and Groom our TA's travel agency developed a PDF and a type of Web page on their site that guests can access to reserve their attendance. I have a lot more to write but time for bed. I will be back soon!

Hi Everyone, It wasn't easy and it took lots of time to finally decide on a resort. I would of never thought it would take this long to narrow down a resort, but there is so much to consider. We had narrowed down the resorts to: Hard Rock Riviera, Moon Palace, Now Sapphire and Royalton Riviera. Okay, it wasn't the fault of my finance to take long on making a decision - It was me lol. She stated it was up to me, so I made sure I did my due diligence. I've read a number materials to make a decision such as: promotions, catalogs, tripadvisor and company website. So, Today, we have finally made our wedding reservation and confirmed our wedding date for February 2017 at the Royalton Riviera Cancun. We found that the resort meets most our needs and expectations. There is a variety of food, lots to do and great area for kids. Everything seems to be underway, we are just waiting for our wedding invitations that we just ordered lastnight. We got our invitations made through vistaprint and hopefully they turn out great. We had to jump on the invitations as they were half price. The invitations only cost us about $115 for 250 including taxes and shipping. If anyone has details, photos or wedding experiences with Royalton Riviera, Please share.

I chose my resort! It's the Platinum Yucatan Princess; the adults only resort beside the Grand Sunset/Riviera Princess resorts. I just thought I'd post since I didn't see many forums about this resort since it's fairly new. It's everything that I wanted in my checklist; a sky terrace , disco, close to Playa del Carmen. Just booked our ceremony to be on the terrace since I didn't want to have a beach ceremony. I'm at the beginning stages of planning so I'll probably post more once I know more about the details in the weddings that are conducted there.

I am leaning towards Playacar Palace for my Feb. 1st 2017 wedding. My only fear is that my group may end up being too big for this resort (could potentially be around 100 people). Is anyone else planning a wedding this big at Playacar Palace? Any suggestions? Thank you!

Hey Everyone! New here! We are getting married February of 2017 (open on dates). I have narrowed it down with the help of the FI and friends to 5 resorts: Royal Playa Del Carmen; El Dorado Royale; El Dorado Casitas (same property as Royale); El Dorado Seaside Suites; Excellence Riviera Cancun; and Excellence Playa Mujeres. We got details today from a TA that narrow it down more and are leaning toward Excellence Playa Mujeres. So excited to find this forum and start this journey!!!!!! Any direction to help would be more than welcome as I am completely new to this type of planning.
