Pros: Location
Cons: Poor planning, lack of information, last minute surprises

Brides beware: Although we are trying to stay positive for our upcoming wedding, this is what we've experienced so far:

  1. We booked nearly a year out, but nobody returned our phone calls or emails with substantial information until about a month before our wedding.
  2. Items listed in our wedding package are actually NOT included in our wedding package. We found this out one week before the wedding. For example:
  • In the Ultimate Wedding Package, the "Honeymoon Package" that's listed as included apparently isn't the "Eternity Honeymoon Package" that is described in detail in the brochure / website. The honeymoon package that's included is something completely different--it doesn't include anything of value (unless you consider a "welcome letter" and "fruit" valuable), and is not described anywhere.
  • Also supposedly included in our package, the "one spa treatment to choose from, swedish massage for two, european facial for two or salt glow scrub for two" isn't a full spa treatment. The WC said that it's not a 50 minute treatment, but couldn't tell me exactly what it is, and that the spa can answer my questions. Of course, the spa never got back to me for that, or for scheduling my pre-wedding treatment. Grrrrr
  • And the $100 resort coupon? Well, that isn't really a $100 resort coupon either. It's something quite different than a $100 resort coupon--it can't buy a spa treatment for example--but they haven't been able to tell us exactly what it's for! Surprised?
  • Finally, they tell you to have guests stay at the resort and you'll get free nights, but you don't actually get free nights if your guests book on a website other than the Dreams website (they don't tell you that)

Overall, we're a little nervous for how everything is going to turn out. There is no organization at this company, extremely poor communications and an underlying feeling that you're getting scammed.

Anyway, I am keeping my fingers crossed that at least the event goes well.

I'm sorry to hear you've had such a bad experience so far, Chloe. I just returned from my wedding at Dreams Tulum and it was wonderful... down to the last detail! The wedding coordinator was awesome. She wasn't the person I had communicated with via e-mail. Maybe it'll all just come together when you get there and meet with your coordinator. I really, really hope it turns out well for you =)

Best Wishes,

Laurel

We were married here in January 2011 and they were very disorganized (from rooms to the wedding). We had everything laid out for them very precisely and anyone who can read should have been able to pull it off without a hitch, however, there was a multitude of mistakes (not just one or two that you expect from any event, but a LOT...my review is very detailed if you haven't read it). If there are many issues don't be afraid to demand a refund...that's what we did and received a discount of 35% off our bill (had the ultimate package as well as some extras). The wedding coordinator we had was Louise who I believe isn't there anymore, but we also met with Esman who is the new head coordinator. I'm on the fence about how I feel about him. For instance, he inquired with the reservations manager on our behalf to see if he could get us a better price on a room upgrade (my family had been offered an upgrade the night before for 1/2 of what they were willing to give to us... the bride & groom) and he wasn't able to get any better deal than $190 / night (so we were told as he was speaking in Spanish so couldn't make out all of what he was saying, but this is what he told us). After we left the wedding coordinator's office we went to the front desk (again) and spoke to now a 3rd person who quite happily gave us an upgrade for $70 / night! Esman may have been very truthful about the fact that he couldn't get any better upgrade, but it gives a bad impression on part of the staff when you can then go to some other person and get a price that is less than half (this may however be due to the person he was speaking with on the phone). Just an example of how "hinky" the resort was. We've been to Mexico about 8 times in the past 6 years (as well as other destinations) and this was by far the worst service we've experienced. Our wedding day was still beautiful and memorable (now we laugh about the issues and put the savings towards a honeymoon), but just be forewarned that they are very disorganized and don't seem to care that much if you are getting married there since they have sooooo many weddings every week (your just another number). I really do wish you the best of luck... myself I like to have a forewarning on these kinds of things so I can be prepared and not surprised. We were surprised as there were so many good reviews before we went, but since we've been back we've noticed more and more reviews discussing similar issues (from weddings and just general visitors). Good luck to you and hope it all goes well!

Sorry to hear about everything Chloe! We're getting married here in November and I'm nervous, as are all the Dreams PV brides!

But, I did notice the "honeymoon package" is not the "eternity" package... it says that on the website. I also heard and read that the resort coupon is a little tricky to use. It's more like $100 towards a service that's already $200 or something...

Please let us know how the actual wedding goes once you get back... I'm sure no matter what it will be amazing!!!!!
