Any other 2014 brides here getting an early start?
RaynDrop replied to beachbride14's topic in Newbies!!
Okay I just typed a really long reply below, sorry- hahah - to simply answer your question http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160886551110&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123 Hey - These were something I had on my maybe list to add - I wasn't really sure if they were worth it - how cold does it really get in St. Lucia.. right? So I ended up seeing these ones on Ebay - they are 1.85 each and shipping is listed as 3.19 each. so that made them only 5.04 each... Sounded like a good enough deal to make me say why not. I had reservations about them being so inexpensive.. would they be cheap? So as a "why not" effort I emailed the seller and asked if they would do a discount on the item and/or shipping if I were to by 12. The total for just the scarfs would have been 22 and just the shipping would have been 38 totaling - 60... they replied and said they would sell me 12 for 35 bucks (2.90 each WHAT?!?) - So of course I jumped on it. That was like paying shipping and getting them for free (I LOVE FREE) hehe They came from china or something like that but I got them pretty fast. My WFT moment that I had when I first opened them were - the yellow was a bit darker then I thought it would be (or thought I had remembered it from the pics), there are flowers on them - that I thought were gray with a little purple.. there really isn't any gray at all.. just lots more purple, in different shades then I thought there would be, and finally they are much thinner then what I think of when I think pashmina. My feelings now are - the yellow is nice (it was just not what I remembered) - I like the purple flowers (The gray was the one thing that made me not sure if I wanted to get them in the first place) - Even though they are thinner then a "pashmina" they might actually be better for St. Lucia since I doubt a think scarf would be necessary there - and they are for sure something the girls can use in everyday wear. Oh - and they are a really good size! What are the ones you found on Etsy? I feel like you can do better then 10 bucks each! -

So I actually have little packages that I will be sending to everyone every three months starting with my STDs that I will be sending this month and ending with the pre departure packages that they will get about a week and a half before they leave. It would be cute to be able to give them to everyone at the airport but we will be leaving days before everyone else and we don't all live near each other so everyone will be at different airports. -

Is there any farms or anything near you that you could rent - set up a tent and what not? My friend had her reception on a farm like that.. it was really cute! Hahah - I think it's funny (for the most part) that my Dad can talk the way he does... he tells the same stories over and over and over and over and over... most start with "I probably told you this one already" and then he tells the whole thing again anyways! One of his favorites to tell strangers (he tells every waitress we have when we are out together) about how he held all his kids before they were a minute old. Then says this is my daughter (while pointing at me).. HAHAh he is a weirdo - I think its funny.. he thinks it embarrasses me : ) -

Aww - I hope you Dad comes around and walks you down the aisle at your DW! That is a cute idea of doing all your childhood candy favs! The beachy theme is cute - it is a nice way to make everyone feel like they are a part of the whole wedding. Open bar is goood! I have mixed feelings about hard alcohle at functions like this.. I feel like beer and wine are safer ... people get crazy(ier) with hard stuff. I might do a signature drink then just beer and wine... I will do kegs - way cheaper then cans/bottles and if you have it behind a bar/table with a bartender and a nice tap it doesn't look like a frat party : ) grooms cakes are cute : ) -

Oh good... Sounds like we do have a similar plan... I didn't know if it was wierd that I wanted to wait for the first dances.... Probably speeches too... Although I know atleast my dad will probably say one at the DW..... weird or not I don't want to do it differently.. so I'm glad to know I'm not the only one -

Yeah 50 people at a DW seems like a good size to me! over 200 and counting ... that is a GOOD reason to do a DW! A BBQ is always a good time -

I don't know if there is any law to how to have/what to do for an AHR. I have seen brides on here talk about doing very casual things like backyard bbq to full out fancy receptions. I'd like mine to be right in the middle.... I'm not 100% how I want it but I know some basics..... We are only inviting Parents, Siblings and 1 friend each (and all of there partners) to the wedding and I'm not having a bridal party. There are a lot of other people that I would be inviting if I'd had a "normal" wedding but the a big part of my wanting a DW was because I wanted small! So I will invited all those other people to the AHR (and of course those coming to the DW) I don't plan on doing our first dances at the DW - I have a very elaborate plan on how I want these to go... this plan will be way more special with a lot of people to witness it. So we will being doing all these at the AHR. I plan on wearing my dress - probably just until after the dances. Then I think I will change into a cocktail dress.. keep it kind of bridal. I don't plan on having a wedding cake at the AHR because we will already have had one at the DW - I will do a special Groom's Cake - that I will keep a secret until he sees it. Plus, we talked about a candy bar at the DW.. my FI really liked it... but $300 for 20 people seems a bit extreme. Not sure about food - I'm thinking either buffet dinner or a big array of hor dourves (passed and on tables) or some hor dourves and a couple food stations (like a build your own Mac 'n Cheese bar and carving stations or something like that) I will defiantly do table decoration - I have already purchased some stuff... the colors will be Peacock inspired (this is what I would have done if I had a "normal" wedding) ---- I have noticed a lot of brides are doing beachy themes.. reusing some decorations and such from there DW.. having island food and stuff so that those that couldn't make it can feel like they got to be there. --- I have lots of other little things in mind . . . Overall I guess I don't want it to feel like "why are they having a second wedding" but I do want it to be a celebration of our wedding not just any old party... make sense? -
