  1. wow you guys are early birds! I haven't even sent out my STD's yet. They will be going out this month as soon as I get our engagement photos back next week. We are having a very small wedding and only about 35 invites are going out and that covers about 67 people. We expect a turnout of about 25-35 guests. My wedding is in April and my planner suggested our RSVP date be February 1. I don't want our invites to get lost in the Christmas card hustle and bustle and planned to send them out right after the holidays, giving people 4 weeks to do a final RSVP. I am doing this because I believe that most people will have already told me before they even get the invites if they are coming or not. The guests have the option to RSVP on our wedding website which they will we become well-aware of when they get their STD's this month which has a card with hotel booking info as well. We are NOT doing a resort or anything but I did block out rooms at our hotel and they have until literally a week before the wedding to reserve that. I suspect people will do this early though as they
  2. I am getting told that they have never even heard of Flower Dell at GCBS which sounds a bit peculiar to me since they have been around for years and doing business at some big wedding venues on the island not to mention have provided the flowers for some of your weddings! I can clearly see that they do a great job just seeing some photos here and they are definitely the most reasonably priced florist on the island. Wonder what's up with that one?
  3. Ladies, this thread has been so very helpful to me. I did not even consider going the knock-off route for my wedding gown until I saw this thread and you are talking to a girl who rocks a bunch of designer handbags from Canal Street in NYC without even thinking twice. lol So I have not even stepped foot into a wedding dress boutique yet, but from reading this thread, my point of attack is to head over to try on the designer dresses I had my eye on and see which styles look best on me and have Jasmine Bridal or Dressilyme make it for me..although I am partial to Jasmine Bridal. I have a feeling I may end up with more than one dress!
  4. Thanks chitownbride, that definitely helps. I should no better considering my family is West Indian lol I am just a city girl though and I'm used to getting things done not now, but yesterday.hehe Anyway, I will be more patient and try to consolidate my questions so she won't be rolling her eyes at me. But I am sure as a wedding planner, she's dealt with worse
  5. I am the same way, I am pretty hands on. I have a coordinator Marina Flynn with GCBS but right now, I guess with my April wedding, I'm not high priority so any questions I have, I don't expect an answer back anytime soon. I just kind of found stuff on my own like vendor pricing and stuff. I am trying to not use Celebrations for anything. I got a quote from Flower Dell and they were mighty reasonable so I want to go with them. I do have a question though, how often did you guys communicate with your wedding planners 8 months or more out from your wedding date?
  6. @Starfish0512 I saw some of your wedding photos on Rebecca Davidson's website and they are absolutely gorgeous! Also where did your husband get his suit?
  7. did any of the brides here use a limo service to get you to your ceremony location? If so, which one did you use?
  8. First, relax and breath! They will contact you. I was in communication with Luca in the beginning of my search and they got back to me very quickly each time I emailed them. Granted, I only communicated with them via email. In fact, I find that all of the vendors prefer to communicate in this way and it's better for you because you will have quotes in writing.
  9. Atrigler: I also would just go ahead and find photos of florals that you like online and email them to Flower Dell for quotes. Breakdown the types of flowers you want and how many etc. They will give you a very detailed quote and get back to you right away. I emailed them the floral arrangements I wanted and they were able to give me prices on them. I would compare the quote they give you at Flower Dell to what you get from your planner. That is what I intend to do.
  10. I actually just emailed Craig from One World today and this was what he wrote me: $365.85 USD covers the equipment and sound, and then they add $152.44 USD for every hour of Djing so 3 hours would be $823.17 USD. He gave the quotes in Cayman Dollars but I just converted them here to US Dollars. They charge a 50 % deposit to hold the date.
  11. @Starfish0512 WOW! You look absolutely beautiful! The cake, your dress and hair..just lovely. Did you guys have music and dancing at your wedding? Your flowers look really nice! Did they ask you what colors you wanted or was it just a choice of having a tropical bouquet? Looks like you guys really had a wonderful time! Congrats!
  12. @atrigler I think I will shot Craig an email from One World. As for hair and makeup, I am going to book stephanie ford-ramoon. Friended her on Facebook and we've been in contact. I may be doing a trip over to Grand Cayman in October to smooth things out before the wedding, so I will do a trial with her at that point. As for hair, I am sort of a stylist myself. I am doing some experimentation with my hair but my whole look will be 1940's pinup girl style. Anyway between myself and my MOH who is also a stylist, I probably won't be hiring anyone to do my hair.
  13. @atrigler I am having my florals done via Cayman Beach Suites wedding planning. It's included in my package for the most part. I am not sure who their external vendor is at the moment. I think we may go with One World for music but not sure yet as it will really depend on how many folks decide to come to the wedding but if it's looking like 20 or more, it will be worth the money. Did they also do the music for you walking down the aisle? I was thinking of going with the steel drum player for that.
  14. @dazeydawl It is lovely! We've been twice and knew that was exactly where we wanted to get married. Ironic you are getting married in Jamaica. My family is from there but not in the nice part lol How in the world do you already have 29 guests booked and your wedding is after mine?! I haven't even got my wedding venue officially booked yet @atrigler Hi! I inquired with Caribbean Club/Luca as well but we ultimately have decided to go with Grand Cayman Beach Suites and reception at Hemmingways. I didn't like that whole 3 bedroom suite set up at Caribbean Club. Wouldn't work out for our guests and I also thought it was a little pricey. Although I really liked Luca. We are tentatively holding our rehearsal dinner there. Hey, are you having music at your wedding and reception? I wanted to do steel drums for the ceremony and cocktail hour but have not decided if I want a DJ or band at reception.
  15. what a beautiful photo CaymanBride0512! I have inquired with Simply Weddings to get information about using them for our April 2013 wedding. Sent an email through their website a few days ago and have not gotten any response. In the mean time, I am in contact with Marina from Grand Cayman Beach Suites and also Molly at Creativent. I am trying to get an idea of what a budget would look like for a wedding with about 20-25 guests. Anyone on the boards getting married in Grand Cayman later this year or in 2013? This board needs another revival!
  16. Just found this forum and we are getting married April 2013 in the Cayman Islands where we've been twice and fell in love with. Just got engaged this past weekend so hoping to get some ideas on where start here.
