  1. Is anyone requesting a certain room location? Like in a specific building? If so, who are you doing this through? Cecilia and Valeria?
  2. Annieweds: When is your wedding date? If you are doing a private reception I believe you get to choose your menu. We are having a private reception and are choosing what is being served. As far as the external vendor fee, we aren't using any external vendors simply bc I didn't want to have to pay additional and rack up more costs. Although ridiculous, I do think it's pretty standard to charge that. Even in my area locally, venues usually charge if you don't use one of their preferred vendors. I guess it's either an additional way to make money or discourage people from using outside vendors. I keep telling my fiance that we need to get into the wedding business. There is some serious money to be made.
  3. $724 for package 1 plus 11% tax= $724 + $79.64 tax= $803.64 for package 1. Package 6=$1300 w/o tax so, $1300-$800(package 1 w/tax) =$500 (plus tax not included yet). So, You are upgrading to a package $1300. Tax on that is $143. The difference is the packages is $500. IMO this is not the correct way to calculate this. The tax should not be added to the $724 to get the difference w/o it being added to the $1300 in the same calculation. To get the $639, she took the $1300 and added the tax which is $1443. Then she subtracted the $724 plus tax ($79.64) which is $803.64. So, she took $1443 (total package w/tax) and subtracted $803.64 (total package 1 w/tax). That brings you to $640. This seems accurate IMO. The problem seems to be that the two coordinators are not on the same page as far as how to calculate charges and credits. I think it can be very confusing so I get why, but clearly there is a miscalculation on someone's part. I am leaning more towards Cri's not being calculated correctly. She can't add the tax to one and not the other when calculating the difference. I'm upgrading to special package 1, but I am double checking and there seems to be some type of problem with the math there as well (could be me though!)
  4. I am extremely worried about this. My ceremony is at 3:00 in the afternoon. It's going to be super hot. Hopefully it will be breezy and nice, but I'm just counting on it being hot as you know what. But hey, it's mexico in the middle of the summer so it's expected. Our ceremony is at 3. We then have a break til 5:00 when the cocktail hour starts. Ceremony lasts about 30 minutes. i have read other posts that said it lasted about 20.
  5. Thank you for this!! It is very helpful! Congrats on your wedding!! I will be there at the end of may!
  6. Hi, I am also not completely sure about this but I have: about 15 minutes worth of songs for the seating of the guests, not sure if we will need that many but I hope so bc I love the songs I have chosen! Then I have 1 song for fiance walking our moms down the isle. The same song is going to be used for our wedding party (pretty small wedding party). I have one song for me. I am going to choose 2 songs to be played during the ceremony....not sure how that works though or if we will use those songs. I want to have them in case though. Then we will do an exit song. I hope that helps.
  7. Hi! Welcome and congrats! You can find lots of info here http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/32238/secrets-maroma-brides on this thread. You may also get more responses if you post your questions here. There have been many posts about airbrush make-up, photogs, and music.
  8. I just saw a photo that was recently posted on tripadvisor and it has the new wedding arch thing. It is decorated with tulle or some type of fabric and it looks really nice. The photo is a little blurry but it will give you a good idea if you want to check it out.
  9. I'm not really sure what the options are. I'll be down there getting married in one month so I will be bringing back lots of info and photos. I am going to try to do a really good review of the resort/wedding. I feel like there are not enough recent reviews and also not enough photos of the different areas....mostly it's just the gazebo.
  10. Has anyone else seen the new canopy? If so, what do y'all think? I personally think it looks nice but my fiancé doesn't care for it much.
  11. Cricri- will you please email me the new canopy? I would love to see it. Talk to you soon.
  12. I basically took a few hours out on a Saturday and planned everything, then emailed her the info. She returned the new contract to me a couple of days later.
  13. Hi All, I recently asked Cecilia about when I need to make decisions on flowers, cake, etc. She said the sooner the better. I asked if I should wait til I arrive at the resort, she suggested to make as many decisions before we go as possible. That way she can get the contract written up and that is more time enjoying our vacation and less time sitting and planning. So I guess it is really up to you, but just maybe do what you can when you have the time.
  14. If you are having a DW, you should seriously look at doing an AI. I think if I went to a reception and was asked to pay for my meal, I would actually be angry. If I were you, I would not even consider doing anything where my guests had to pay. I don't think cash bar is even appropriate for a DW. They are traveling for your wedding, you should treat them!
  15. We are having a DW because we love to travel and think it will be the most fun and beautiful way to get married!!
  16. FI's mom isn't paying for anything. We offered to pay for part of her trip and she declined. We aren't really expecting anyone to pay for anything. We aren't asking anyone for anything either.
  17. We sent out invites a little early I think. I guess it was sometime in January and the wedding is in May.
  18. Me too! I hate that it's 150 posts. I wish it was closer to 100!!
  19. Well, I tried packing some stuff into the one suitcase that I wanted to check. It only held the OOT bag stuff. I still have my maracas, centerpieces, menus, and chair sashes. Looks like I will be checking more than one suitcase.
  20. We are paying for our own wedding. We didn't ask our parents or anyone. My step mom nicely offered to pay for my dress, but I declined the offer. We just figured we should do it ourselves considering our situation. We are a little older, already have a house, etc.
  21. Check apple vacations. I just did and there were rooms available on those dates.
  22. I asked about guests staying at other Secrets resorts and not having to pay day passes. Cecilia told me they would have to pay day passes.
  23. You cannot take live plants/flowers into mexico...so no real rose petals. I would imagine that most resorts would not allow fake ones so that they can protect sea life. I know that the resort I am getting married at sells bags of rose petals for $20. The wedding coordinator said 2 bags are needed. So, it may be a pretty affordable option to check with the hotel and see if they offer that.
