  1. Hi Ladies, I've been back from Moon Palace for quite some time, but have been completely swamped with work since my return. I'm not sure when I will get a chance to buckle down and write a thorough review, but will gladly answer questions to those who have specific ones. I don't think I have too much additional information to add, considering how thorough and helpful all of our other Moon Palace brides have been, but I can definitely provide guidance to brides who are planning a Sikh wedding, which was definitely a challenge at times. If anyone is interested in photos, here is a link to our photographer's blog: http://weddingsinmotionblog.com/ Scroll down past baby Eleanor's photos and you will see HUNDREDS of photos from our wedding festivities. Also, here is a link to a wedding video prologue made by our videographers: https://vimeo.com/44350706 All in all, everything went wonderfully and we have no major complaints. Valeria was wonderful to deal with and went out of her way to please us. The only thing I can complain about is that we had our reception in the Gallatic Ballroom (Sunrise section), which was not at all soundproof (in fact, the room seperators did not even touch the floor) so we could hear music coming from other parties and that was really annoying during speeches. Also, we upgraded our cake due to having 140 guests, but the cake was totally lopsided, the flowers were the wrong colour, and no one actually cut or served the cake to our guests. However, when i talked to Valeria about this the following day, she immediately refunded the $280 for the cake and we really appreciated that. Again, please let me know if you have any questions. I will gladly provide answers to the best of my ability
  2. Hi Ladies, I was wondering if anyone can let me know of a good cenote in the playa del carmen/cancun area for a photo shoot. My photographers are not from the area and we're not sure where to go for our TTD. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  3. WOW!! Great photo, Coco!! You look amazing! Congrats to you and hubby!
  4. Summer!! I'm so glad things went well!! It sounds like you had an amazing time! Can't wait to see the rest of your photos!
  5. It's actually not for the reception - it's the wedding ceremony. We are having a Sikh wedding, with 3 people conducting the ceremony. They requested mics for each of them, as well as 2 for their instruments (they will be playing the harmonium and the tablas). We have about 130 guests, so I'm not sure if mics are even necessary. I'm super confused about what to do right now.
  6. Nope. No lights, no DJ. That's what they quoted for 5 mics, amp, and 2 speakers. I feel like I'm getting ripped off because the wedding is only 2 weeks away and they know I have limited options. I was not at all expecting to pay that much for audio. They're also charging me over $1000 just for the wedding set-up, including $300 for white sheets to put on the ground for us to sit on!
  7. Hi Ladies! I can't believe the time has come for so many of us! Congrats to Emily and Coco!! I have a quick question for those who have already been to Moon Palace. Does anyone know if the Tucan Gazebo has electrical outlets? JSAV has quoted us $2500 for audio services for our Sikh wedding ceremony (we need 5 mics and some speakers), which I think is absurd and we definitely can't afford it. We've decided it would be cheaper to buy equipment out here and then bring it with us. But we need to know if there are any outlets that can be used in there. Any help would be really appreciated! Thanks!
  8. I think the $6-7 dollars per chair you may have read about is in regards to the upgrades (e.g., tiffany chairs or bamboo chairs). If you stick with the white folding chairs, it should all be included, regardless of number of guests.
  9. Hi Kumarv, I am doing a sikh wedding in cancun at Moon Palace golf and spa resort. One of the reasons we chose that resort is because you get unlimited private events with 75 room nights booked. PM me with specific questions and I would be happy to answer them!
  10. Hi Summer, I'm so sorry to hear about your nana. I hope you and your family are doing well. I have a friend who does customized jewelry and I'm having her make a pendant with a picture of my paternal grandparents. Check out her website at: http://www.whisperjewels.com/ Take a look. I love her work and she's an amazing person to work with. Let me know if you need anything at all! Sophia
  11. I'm doing a sikh wedding in mexico and might be able to help you out. Which resort are you getting married at?
  12. Hi Summer, You are also more than welcome to ship something to my place. Sonney visits pretty frequently, so he could just take it back to van with him. PM and I can send you my address if you're interested!
  13. Hi ladies, I feel awful because I haven't contributed anything to this site since I discovered it, but that's mostly because my life is so consumed by grad school right now that I haven't really done anything for the wedding that can be shared. We did, however, get around to having our engagement photos taken. Here is a link to our photographer's blog if anyone is interested in seeing them: http://bit.ly/tQuD1C I consulted with you ladies a while back about OOT bags and have decided to forgo them. Making bags for 120 guests just seems way too overwhelming. FI and I have decided to have some nice favours for the wedding and focus our energies on a thank you gift once we get back. We are going to do MIB invites and an artistic friend of mine is currently working on a template for those. I asked her to add an "indian" element to them, so I'm excited to see what she comes up with! I will post as soon as we get those ready. I also wanted to congratulate everyone on their wonderful DIY projects! You ladies really are amazing! Coco, I wish I had your organization skills! Any chance you've got a dissertation template in there somewhere?

  15. Great idea, coco! I'm not a big football fan (I wouldn't be a true Canadian if I didn't live and die for hockey), but FI is a huge eagles fan. Did you order these online? I would love to surprise him with an eagles garter!
  16. Wow, all the invites, STD's, decorations, dresses, are AMAZING. I feel so far behind everyone in terms of projects. I'm in my 4th year of grad school and have been trying to get my dissertation off the ground for the past few months, and really haven't devoted any time to wedding planning. I think I'm overwhelmed at the thought of these projects as well because right now we have 110 people with their deposits down and a few more "maybes" too (Indian weddings are ridiculous!). So I'm not sure if i want to even tackle OOT bags for that many people. FI and I talked about making 1 per family or couple and handing them out at guests' homes before we leave, just so we don't have to lug all that stuff down to Cancun. What do you ladies think? Would that take away from the surprise or excitement of them? On a happier note, my parents and I just booked our flights to India for this december! I will be buying my outfits and other wedding ceremony necessities from there and haven't been since since I was 6 years old! I won't get to do much sight seeing because I"m only there for 2.5 weeks, but I'm super excited nonetheless!
  17. I would be more than happy to provide some suggestions. I'm Punjabi Sikh as well and have been to many, many, Sikh weddings. Feel free to PM me!
  18. Coconoir, I cannot believe how organized you are!! Have a blast getting your dress today!
  19. onourway, Thanks so much for your response! Yes, that's what I was told as well. I just wanted to see what other people had been told because of the high level of inconsistency. It's kind of a bummer because my grandparents offered their resort credit to be used for decorations, etc (they probably won't be using much of it). I'm having a big, fat, Indian wedding and I don't want to spend a ton on decorations.
  20. Hi ladies! I'm not sure if this question is answered elsewhere but I was wondering if moon palace allows you to use your resort credit to buy add-on's if you choose the complimentary package. If you have resort credits left over, can you use them to buy for decorations? Thanks!
  21. Has anyone hired an outside vendor for hair and makeup? I'm being told that I would have to book a room for my makeup artist because day passes do not allow people to enter guest rooms.
  22. Yes, I've spent HOURS reading through the 2011 thread and have spoken with both Indian brides (1 is actually marrying a friend of mine from high school)! The idea of doing a destination Indian wedding was so daunting before I came across this site!
  23. Hi ladies, I have been reading threads on this website for a few weeks now and decided it is a good time to introduce myself. My name is Sophia and I am hoping to have an Indian/Sikh wedding on May 5th, 2012 at Moon Palace. I've already come to rely on the information provided by you all on this website and am so thankful to have found it! You are all so wonderfully helpful! I look forward to contributing to the threads as well!
  24. Hi asanyc, What kind of indian theme were you thinking of? Kjanda and I are both planning Sikh weddings and I know of other brides who have had Hindu weddings in Mexico. I'm still figuring out the details but may be able to provide some help!
