Good job, I like them with the natural wood colored hangers.I finished this DIY project today, I'm happy with the results!! Â 12 ga is definitely harder to work with but the wire is much more sturdy! Â I may sponge paint the hangers I'm not sure (probably should have thought about this BEFORE I finished them, oops) Â They only had natural hangers at my Target, I wish I had been able to find the dark wood hangers. -
My kitty Roxy, laying on my tulle while I'm trying to make my veil. http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/content/type/61/id/165611/width/500/height/1000[/img]

Next I took a long piece of scrap tulle and wrapped it around the top of my comb, one way, then back and tied the 2 ends. http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/content/type/61/id/165602/width/200/height/400[/img] http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/content/type/61/id/165603/width/200/height/400[/img] http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/content/type/61/id/165604/width/200/height/400[/img] I'll trimmed off the excess ends and extra tulle then hand sewed the veil onto the back of the comb. I cut off the extra hanging threads and flipped the veil over the top of the comb, then tried it on! http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/content/type/61/id/165605/width/200/height/400[/img] http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/content/type/61/id/165606/width/200/height/400[/img] http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/content/type/61/id/165607/width/200/height/400[/img]

Then, using the sewing machine on a straight stitch, at the longest stitch setting I sewed along the top (straight edge) without reverse stitching on either side. http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/content/type/61/id/165595/width/200/height/400[/img] http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/content/type/61/id/165596/width/200/height/400[/img] http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/content/type/61/id/165597/width/200/height/400[/img] http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/content/type/61/id/165598/width/200/height/400[/img] Then, by pulling only one of the threads I was able to gather the tulle so that it was the length of my comb, then tied the long threads. I then sewed over the gathered stitches, this time reversing on both ends to make sure it doesn't come undone. http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/content/type/61/id/165600/width/200/height/400[/img] http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/content/type/61/id/165601/width/200/height/400[/img]

The supplies: Tulle - I bought 2 yards of the double wide stuff for $5 at FabricLand White thread Needle Sewing maching Scissors Comb - most people recommend the wire combs, but I prefer plastic because my hair is very fine and slippery. I bought this one at Ardene for less than $2 http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/content/type/61/id/165591/width/350/height/700[/img] I'll wanted a fingertip length 1 tiered veil. So I started by cutting a square of tulle, I folded this in half and then folded the bottom up to make a triangle. I tried to take lots of pictures because I knew it would be hard to explain. http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/content/type/61/id/165592/width/200/height/400[/img] I'll had my fiancé hold a piece of string and the corner of the triangle while I used the other end to help me draw a curved line that would be half a circle when the tulle is opened up. I then cut along the traced line with the tulle still folded. http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/content/type/61/id/165593/width/200/height/400[/img] http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/content/type/61/id/165594/width/200/height/400[/img] This is when I held the tulle up to my head to figure out how long I wanted the veil, in my case, I wanted to fall at just about the too of my bum, so I ended up cutting quite a bit off the top.

So, I've finally done it! I got out my sewing machine and made my veil. Here is the finished product, minus the beaded edging, which I plan on doing another time. http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/content/type/61/id/165589/width/350/height/700[/img] I'll post the steps I took below.

Tulumbride2013, we are dress twins!!! Mine should be in for the end of November and I will be able to try it on again. Great choice, if I do say so myself!

I agree, don't limit yourself to a designer. I had no idea what was going to look good on me, I'm petite as well so didn't even think I'd be able to pull of a full length gown. I would suggest going in with an open mind, and try on a dress in each silhouette, you'll know immediately what you feel best in. Having a few things you want (mine were white, no satin, sweetheart neckline, and a little bling) will help the ladies at the store pull dresses with features you want. Taking a few pictures of dresses you are drawn to will also help. Good luck, and enjoy the experience!I am a wedding dress newbie! I'm going dress shopping for the first time on Wednesday! I wondered if anyone can suggest designers which are particularly good at fitting petite body types? I'm average height, but have a small bust, small waist, small hips, small shoulders... I've heard some designers are "known" for certain body types, so I was just wondering what designer I should ask to try on and find styles for for this Wednesday. Thanks ladies!! Your advice would greatly help!! -
Anyone looking for personalized stuff like travel mugs, tote bags, pens etc. I found a catalog for 4imprint at work. I've checked out the website and you can choose exactly how many items you want to buy, even if it's an odd number. For us Canadians they have 4imprint.ca as well!

This may sound a little weird....but was anyone else nervous about their FIs having a negative response to the photos? Don't get me wrong...I'm sure he would love the pictures but I don't know if in the back of his head he'd be constantly thinking about who's seen me posing in lingerie (photographer, person developing the photos etc.) Am I just overthinking this?

I 'd love to do a boudoir session, when do you think you'll give your pictures to your FI??

Wow! This is beautiful. If you attach it to your hanger I think it will be sturdy enough right? Your dress only hangs on the wooden part of the hanger. Yes, you'll have to be gentle with it but it should be okay.I gave this a try and suprisingly I'm pretty happy with the results, I thought this would be a DIY disaster. This was suppose to be my test run, but I think its good enough to use. However, I did use 16ga wire since they were out of 12ga and I'm not sure if it's sturdy enough, I have concerns with it getting easily bent and altered. -
I saw glasses like these at Ardene, obviously you can't get them personalized but they were pretty cheap. Maybe you can just write on them with a Sharpie or use stickers to personalize them.Hello ladies!!! I need you HELP once again I am looking to order those sunglasses that look like raybans but in 3 different colours (red, blue and yellow). Reason being this is the way to distinguish people's menu options at the reception table but also acts as their wedding favour. I also would like to get them personalized with our names and wedding date on one side. I will probably need about 40-50 of them for the wedding since that's about how many guests I expect to have coming. Here is a picture of what I am looking for just in case: Does anyone know where in Ontario or Canada in general I can make an order like this? Please let me know if you can help out! Thanks. -

I like the silver ones. No, they don't have colour, but would hive you that 'pop' of sparkle. Here are my shoes. I had such a hard time finding just the right shoe for my dress. I would have LOVED to wear barefoot sandals....because I just love the idea of getting married barefoot in the sand! BUT my dress is too long and I needed to find a shoe that has height...but not a heel...or else it'd sink into the sand! So I finally found what I think should work for me!...high wedge shoes! Fingers crossed! -

I didn't use one in particular, just spent some time looking around at the lettering I liked best then mixed and matched letters from different etsy sellers until I came up with something I liked. I would encourage you to make a template as I did on page 1 of this tutorial, then you can just follow the template for sizing and lettering. If you'd like to see any close up pictures of the hangers I've done I can post them and you can follow them. I just kept it generic and used titles rather than names though, I found this easier than trying to figure out how I was going to spell each name.Hi! I hope I"m not too late on this thread. You said you had looked off Etsy to decide how the letters should look. Which Etsy shop did you use? I am best at just looking off of something rather than just winging it! -
Hello ladies, I will be getting married at RIU Palace Punta Cana March 5th, I actually met with the wc when my FI and I did a site visit this past March. If you have any questions I'd be happy to help, just PM me. I can forward the pictures I've been sent for flower and cake options. As far as I'm aware all of the linens are included in the wedding package. This thread http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/71891/riu-palace-punta-cana-steakhouse-reception#post_1787457 has some pictures of the reception set up at the steakhouse. If you're curious what the resort looks like my FI and I also made some video tours of the resort.

I think we are doing travel mugs (bubba keg style) and luggage tags because I know for sure they'll get used. We'll probably give them out before our departure.
-
Arg, I missed the sale. I'll have to keep an eye out for the next one.Canadian brides _ i thought I would share that I saw the bubba keg mugs for 50% off at Canadian Tires yesterday. They are on sale until September 6th! Typical since I just ordered mine online 3 days earlier from the US...lol. Happy saving! -
Wellthen02, my FI and I did a site visit this past March, bugs were not an issue at all. I'd say save your money.Any past brides that got married in Dominican Rep. Punta Cana? I am debating on including bug spray/wipes and want to know the bug situation. I personally LOATHE creepy crawlies so I would appreciate it, but if its non existent then I would rather spend money elsewhere. Â -
Great thread, you ladies have awesome ideas!

So the weirdest thing happened last week. I dragged my FI to Le Chateau last week because I was looking for my wedding shoes...he found these fuchsia dress shirts on sale and said "what if the guys wear these shirts, with a white tie and grey suits??" I was flabbergasted because this is the first time he's showed any interest what the 'guys' will be wearing. It looks pretty sharp. The guys will be wearing the shirt ties and dark grey pants and the FI will wear the matching vest. http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/content/type/61/id/163559/width/350/height/700[/img]
DIY Wedding Dress Hanger Tutorial

I just made all of mine titles; I found capital letters to be the hardest to figure out how to make, so once I got 'Bridesmaid' down, I figured I'd just stick with it. Besides, it's such an honor to be part of someone's wedding; to have a keepsake of the role you played in that important day for your friend would be so special, I'm sure it would get just as much use as one with her first name!
My fiance did help me pull out the original dowels that were nailed into my hangers (I needed his muscle power), but I did the drilling myself. I'm the kind of girl that feels like 'if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself', hence making my own hangers rather than buying them
I also stuck my wire ends directly into the (horizontally) drilled holes, however I did see many made with the 'L' bend on Etsy. The bend does give you a little more room between the top of your lettering and the underside of your hanger if you find your lettring looks a little smushed in there. I just liked the cleaner look of the straight wire.
You're welcome! I had so much fun making my hangers and making this tutorial. I'm so happy to see lots of views and that alot of ladies have been using it to making thier own. I love seeing the variations and all the little personal touches everyone is adding.
