MISSFRAMBOESA, here in the US anyway, it is common for the woman to have an engagement ring (usually a diamond) and then another wedding ring (wedding band) that you put on at your wedding as a symbol of your marriage and then from that point on you wear the 2 rings together, so usually the wedding ring is a band type ring that compliments the original engagement ring.

We had a friend who is a photo lover take engagement pics for us, I think they turned out great She did put a "photographer signature" on some of the photos though that was just a trial run for her to see how it turned out as she would like to get into doing photography casually on the side for friends/family and aquaintances.

Hahaha I know!!! I feel the same way! I just ordered mine last week Thursday and I'm anxious as can be! I expect mine to ship out around Thanksgiving and arrive sometime the week of 12/6 I hope

just a note to the poster who said she has seen poor knockoffs and thinks it is better to purchase a low end designer dress rather than a bad knockoff. I agree, nobody wants a bad looking wedding dress, but it fact is true, you can't hardly buy a unity candle set for $140! Anything labeled bridal is always more expensive. Remember too that not everybody is trying to get a knockoff of a dress that is several thousands of dollars. I chose a dress that was from David's Bridal (which is sort of an knock or or "inspired by" a Maggie Sottero dress...though there are a few differences). I still didn't want to pay 600+ even though David's Bridal is considered very cheap in bridal world standards. So I ordered knockoff, and for $120 shipped, we will see how my dress turns out. I'm optimistic, especially since DB dresses are not typically made of high end fabric and are seen as "low end" in the first place so i'm hoping my knock off from china is actually quite comparable to the "real" DB dress and still for a small fraction of the price! I just can't pay a lot of money, especially didn't want to pay more for my dress than my destination wedding travel even costed!

I just ordered my dress with Monica Bridal today via DHGate. Communication has been great, super prompt emails via DHGate and I am anal and end up logging on to chat to make sure she has no questions Can't wait for the dress to come, hopefully it turns out great...figure it is worth a try for $120 shipped! :)

I agree with this poster to a certain degree. I'd be very disappointed if the dress didn't fit too, BUT the dress itself isn't really made wrong or poorly, it does look like the picture and seems to be a nice dress, the proportions are right, it is just too big. I do understand how the expectation would be that it fits considering you send your measurements in an effort to have a custom made dress, made to your size rather than ordering a standard size. However, keep in mind that there is certainly a margin of error to be expected. Even a more expensive dress may not fit right just based on paper measurements, when you have something custom made in person it involves multiple in-person fittings at various points in the creation process. Unfortunately for the buyer and the dress maker/seller there is not that luxury when sewing based on measurements just written on paper. Especially when the measurements were not taken by the person making the dress, if she cut the fabric or took the measurement of the garment just 1 inch higher or lower than where you measured your waist, hips, etc then the whole dress is going to be off. Also, it may not be a safe assumption that you took your measurements perfect either. There is simply no way to guarantee that the way you took your measurements is the exact way she did, like I said, she may have measured an inch higher or lower etc. Doesn't make either of you wrong...simply a downfall of the internet process. I'm not at all disagreeing with your disappointment, BUT I do kind of feel that the dress maker held her end of the deal up, she made a beautiful dress for a really cheap price. It would be a shame if she didn't get compensation for her time and materials when she really wasn't negligent per se. I think as the buyer, we do have to assume a certain amount of risk and responsibility when getting our own measurements and emailing them and expecting a dress maker to sew a dress that fits like a glove with never having the opportunity to do a fitting or even the measurements themselves. I don't know that it means the seller did a bad job...unfortunately that is a risk, and in my opinion, a reasonable risk that falls to the buyer.

We were trying for July 4th 2011 as well but ended up doing a week early simply because travel was a couple hundred dollars cheaper for our guests the week prior. So our wedding is June 28th 2011 in Punta Cana Dominican Republic.

Hockeymom, yes I have tried that one on at David's bridal. It wasn't my size but I got the idea. That was originally the dress I was going to go with. But I had a friend who bought 2 dresses for her wedding and ended up GIVING me the black and ivory one for free!!!!!!!! BUT it is too small. I am losing weight but I don't like the idea of having to guarantee a loss to fit into my dress...and I'm not sure how easy it will be to have a dress altered to be made bigger or if it will take away from the lines of the dress. So I have been looking for alternatives. Originally I had a flowy chiffon dress in mind for a beach wedding, but then when my friend gave me that other dress I couldn't decide. I do like the black and ivory one a lot but it just isn't beachy ya know? Aside from the fact that it is too small. I found that other Maggie chiffon one for sale and was considering that one. But now I think if I am going to just buy a dress afterall, I might as well get the one that I know looked nice on me and not "risk" ordering one from someone else and not liking it on me or having 2 dresses that don't fit!

I hadn't really thought about that as I just assumed I would wear bridal type undergarnments like a long line bra or something that would add its own support. LADIES: because of the heat with a tropical destination wedding, did you guys NOT wear a long line bra or slip or anything under your dress? thanks!!

I've actually decided I think I'm going to go with this dress...same flowy style as the Maggie I posted but I think the waistline of this one will be more flattering on me.

Ok, so I showed the dress I am planning on ordering in the post above. I originally was going to chose this one from Landys Bridal (another Maggie from 2009) but I worry about the waist line being too high. I am a full figured girl and really need to definition at the waist. I've tried that actual Davids Bridal dress on (post above) and it looked nice. I'm worried the Maggie in this post is too high of a waist...empire waists with a flowy bottom make me look pregnant. What do you all think? Oddly I actually have a dress already that I got from a friend. I really like the dress BUT it is too small I am in the process of losing weight and it MIGHT fit or could be altered to fit but I think I'll pay an arm and a leg to take the dress out. Also, thought I really like the dress a ton, it doesn't see "beachy" to me. I will keep it as a back up just incase my "overseas knock off" dress isn't up to par. Anybody know how difficult it is to let a dress out or add gussets...we are probably talking 2 dress sizes too small in the ribcage/back/bust area Waist isn't too bad, maybe a size or a 1/2 size...would guess I would lose enough weight for the waist.

I sent this dress to Monica Bridal via DHgate tonight and I am so impressed with the prompt reply! I got an email via DHgate (by setting up an acct and sending the message through there) immediately during their business hours. Then I was on tonight and spoke to them via chat and I can't wait to order the dress! The pic I provided is a Davids Bridal Dress, which I suspect was actually "inspired by" the 2nd pic which is a current Maggie Sottero style. The Maggie version is more "elegant" I think with the detail at the waist, whereas the David's version looks a little more casual and tropical to me, so I chose that one for my sample to provide Monicas Bridal. She said she is adding it to her store so I imagine I should beable to order soon, she quoted me 120 including shipping...can't wait to order it!

Hello ladies! I am getting married to my best friend on Bavaro Beach in Punta Cana Dominican Republic on June 28th 2011 I have two dress options and cannot decide! Opinions?!

Did any wear or is going to wear the Maggie Destinations dress SD5211? I have only seen the model picture and I really want to see what it looks like on a normal person. Can ANYONE HELP?!

My fiance and I are getting married June 28th 2011 at IFA Villas Bavaro Resort and Spa in Punta Cana DR. I have yet to find another person on this site getting married at that resort. I realize it is only a 4 star resort and not quite the caliber of Moon Palace or Excellence which I know are popular. However, we were on a really tight budget as was our immediate family so this resort was a great find. The beach is gorgeous, the resort is smaller than some, 7 restaurants and no casino but it got decent reviews on trip advisor and other sites and the rates are unbeatable! We are doing the symbolic wedding package which is $900 (for 10 guests, then $10 extra per each additional guest, very reasonable). My fiance and I are going for 15 days and our total package cost for the 2 of us out of Chicago O'hare from June 23rd-July 7th 2011 was $2500 for both of us combined including all taxes. So that plus the wedding package is only costing us around $3500 We had to consider cost as the #1 factor because we also have my fiance's 2 daughters to pay for who are coming for a week and then his mother is coming for a week and taking the children home with her. For anyone on a tight budget who enjoys a nice resort but doesn't need the fanciest one on the island, check out IFA villas. The WC has been amazing and SUPER fast in her email communication. I've been really impressed so far. My take on it is, since we have never been to the DR and never been to an all inclusive resort nor have most of our guests, we won't know what is missing compared to the resorts that are double the price. And BTW, for the poster who was wondering about $900 for 5 days at Moon Palace, I think that is a good rate. For our wedding, out of Chicago for 7 days Moon Palace was about $2000 per person. Remember, there isn't going to be much difference between 4, 5, 7, or even 15 days...the bulk of the price is airfare which is the same regardless of how many nights you stay (depending on the day of the week you are flying of course). For example, our rate for one of us at 15 days was about $1250 and the rate for 7 days was about $900...so only $350 more to say for an additional full week! Heck yeah!

Hi All, My fiance Matt and I booked our wedding for June 28th 2011 at IFA Villas Resort and Spa in Punta Cana. We essentially picked this resort because it got adequate reviews on tripadvisor and other sites and the price point was unbeatable...a major consideration for both us and our guests. Hello all, Love this thread, my fiance and I are getting married in the Dominican July 2011. We meet with the TA in 3 weeks again to book our resort etc. Palladium is on our "short list" so I love reading all of your posts, it really helps narrow it down. I can't wait to book and get the "real" planning rolling!
