  1. What a sensitive subject and I too am trying to figure out how to honor our loved ones that passed. I have lost 3 family members this year, one of them being my 19 year old cousin. She was supposed to me at my wedding ;( I was going to have each guest release a butterfly but I have heard the butterflys are a lot of work because you have to wake them from hibernation. I have now been considering to release doves. One dove for each family member taken. I will have my aunt release the dove for my cousin (her mother) i will release one for my grandfather and my father will release one for his mother. I was going to have a quick tribute during my reception (before dark) and have the doves there and ready to be released! There are some great ideas on this forum so far. Good luck to you all and what you decide to choose...

  5. Hi ladies, now that I have selected my location (finally), i was curious if any of you have booked a photographer/videographer yet? I have a few good references but the more option I have, the better Congratulations to you call, I am getting Married March 2 2011! I cant wait. Sheraton is a beautiful place!! They were on my top 3 and vellas vallarta (maria-i loved her). I cant wait to hear all your stories and experiences
  6. I feel for you I do. My fiances family are not attending! Whats most important is you and him!! No one else! After all, its your life and dreams, no one Else's! In time your family will come around and if they don't, they can only blame themselves with regret. Family's voice their opinions and that is fine, I'm sure they hope that we will come off this ride that were on and settle with what they want but they should know better! Your an adult and you have made an adult decision!!! CHEERS TO YOU AND YOUR FIANCE, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IF THIS IS YOUR DREAM
  7. Hi Erica, I never fully gave my budget to him. From day one when I got in contact with him he was the closest to my budget. He does break down the price in a nut shell if you were to ask him to see where the money is going. He did it for me because that was a concern when he originally quoted me. Basically once you sign, he will tell you how much you have to go towards each item like flowers, centerpieces ect. I send him photos of my ideas and he tells me if he can do it at the alloted price or if it will be extra (example $50 towards each centerpiece ect). I looke into the LC as well, it is beautiful there but I felt there was no room for negotiating. With Jimmy you can tell him that you dont like something and he can adjust or give you another option. I was in contact with the resorts before I made my decision and although the price may have been close, Im getting more for my money with him. Hope this helps. I will email you early this week with the photos. I work today until late this evening. I have tuesday off so if i dont get back with you monday i will on tuesday
  8. I am putting all the work in his hands!! it makes it easier for me sense I am so far away, plus i have complete faith in him. He does have a female coordinator by the name of Laura that does more of the "coordination". I have received a few pictures of the property from a couple of brides that i have been in contact with. They were lucky enough to view his location before there day, i unfortunately will not make it out there before hand. He has sent me some really nice photos. If you would like me to share them with you, I can email them. I had planned on kids attending as well. The pool did make me nervous but i would rather them fall into a pool then the ocean my other choice was directly on the beach, his privacy won me over completely!! I'm sure if you tell him your concerns he might be able to figure something out. He is very kind and helpful!!! Â
  9. Hi Erica, I am getting married their in the beginning of march and I also have been in contact with another bride that is getting married this november! She is from Seattle and she has already placed a visit at Martoca. She had nothing but great things to say about the property, Jimmy and his Chef that he uses. She will contact me after her wedding to let me know how everything goes. I will share her comments on here
  10. Hello, I seen this forum and wanted to advise! I have been planning my wedding now in pv over the last 5 months. I have kept communication with 3 different resorts/hotels and 1 private venue. All the resorts wanted to charge $600 plus per 45min (CRAZY) considering the band does consist of 12 members I can see why the price can get high but still! Anyhow, I have decided on my venue and I went with the private location (Martoca Beach) When it comes to outside vendors there are 'fair" pricing. If you are looking for outside vendors and still have some time to shop around, check out Martoca's website! The owner is Jimmy and he is great to work with. I feel he will guide anybody to great service, even if you don't use his venue, I'm sure he can give recommendations I hope this can be of some help
  11. Hi there, congrats! December is right around the corner I am not sure what his facility rental would be for that amount of people. I am only having 60 guests and its on a wednesday so he really worked with me. He is very easy going, if you want his contact info let me know! Let him know I referred you and maybe he can bend some prices
  12. Martoca Beach Garden in Bucerias!!! Jimmy is amazing and the property is private with beach front and garden. You cant beat his prices Im having my wedding their on a Wednesday so he was really able to work with me on price.
  13. Hi all, I just wanted to put a little note out there to all the bride/groom that are looking for a venue I have found a great location with FANTASTIC service!!!! The location is Martoca Beach Garden in Bucerias and "The Man" is James Basanez!!! He is absolutely wonderful!!!! He has ideas that would knock your socks off and he is more than just a vendor, he is a friend! There is never a time that you cannot get ahold of him, and he is so helpful in every way possible! Whatever I want/need, he is right there with an answer and a good price He is the real reason why I choose to have a destination wedding in the first place! The only people I communicate with is him and his coordinator Laura, they handle the rest from their! When I first started planning, I was looking into the resorts over a private ground. I figured a resort is easier, they do weddings all the time and what can possibly go wrong! Well let me tell you with what has gone wrong. This is what I have experienced with MOST, but not all! I will send an email and get a response within 24-48hrs, as you start asking more questions and wanting more specific answers the email response becomes delayed by a week or so. I understand that people are busy but when it becomes a pattern, its unnecessary and frustrating, we can only do so much when were so far away! The second thing I noticed, I become comfortable with a spokesman then down the road you get an email that the person no longer works their and that someone new will be taking over! This happened to me at 3 different locations with 3 different people. Enough said!!! I'm glad I started my research early, my wedding is not until March 2011 but after a stressful 5 months of trying to pick and choose a venue, my mind is now at ease! The best thing about Martoca is the PRIVACY! That was a big key point for me. James"Jimmy" is laid back, funny and he gives you that peace of mind that every destination bride is looking for! If anyone is wanting more information, please feel free to contact me. I will be more than happy to help out in anyway I can Here is his website to view some photos.http://www.martoca.com/home  Happy Planning
  14. I am looking for a affordable photographer in the pv area. I like the journalism style. I have found a photographer but her style doesnt fit what im looking for (as much as i like her). Does anyone have any suggestions? I would like video as well. Thanks everyone
  15. I have contacted them but I havent heard back from someone yet! It looks wonderful their. Have they given you a proposal yet?
  16. I have considered them. I havent spoken directly with anyone there, only through email. Have you been able to negotiate price at all?
  17. Thank you but the distance is a risk for me to take. my guests and i will be already traveling on the carnival and we only have a certain time frame to have my event. The venue looks fantastic though!!
  18. I wanted more of a private ceremony, still beach area but not so viewable to the public. I guess i am pretty much open minded in the end, i just want to make sure my ceremony and reception are in the same venue. The area has to be in the marina area because travel could get complicated. I love the private island idea but with us being on a boat for 7 days i dont want to go put them on another boat. Im planning on having 50 plus so far. Did you have some suggestions?
  19. Hello, I am new to this site and im not sure if I am posting this request in the right locations or not Hopefuly I am!! Anyhow, I am planning my wedding out in Puerto Vallarta in the beginning of March and I am still in search of a venue. Here is my story. My guests and I are taking the 7 day mexican riviera cruise and we will be in PV from 8am-10pm. We will not need hotel accomidations sense we will be returning on the ship that evening. I would like to find a place not to far from the marina where the ship ports that way I dont have to worry about being late when we return to the ship So far I have spoken with the Krystal and Villa Del Palmar. I feel confident in both locations from the planners that their locations offer but my problem is, I have never been to PV and I wont be there until the day of my wedding! I was wondering if anyone is familiar with the marina side or if they have any insight for me to help me make my decision. Im running out of time!!!
