  1. I was married at the RIU Montego Bay in September 2010. We used Marcia Roberts as our photographer and I can't say enough about them (there were 3 photographers). They did an amazing job!!!! Happy planning.
  2. We were married at the RIU Montego Bay on September 30th. We arrived in Jamaica on the 25, and tropical storm Nicole hit on the 28th and 29th. We got 12 inches of rain, but the resort was very prepared. After the storm, it drizzled off and on for a couple days, but it amazingly cleared up for our pictures on the beach, and then it was sunny and ridiculously hot ( like 45 degrees C) the next whole week. It's a chance you take, but there really are no guarantees with the weather. The storm we experienced was the first big storm in 4 years, and it wasn't even a hurricane. Make sure your resort is well built and has generator back-up. Our resort had other resorts evacuated to it, and we ran on generator power for a day and a bit...although you wouldn't know it, everything continued on like everthing was great. Even after the storm, I wouldn't change my choice of date.
  3. After doing a little more research and talking with my TA, I found out that sunwing is taking over half of all of the RIU properties from sunquest - but not until november. Sorry to cause stress to anyone getting married before that, but for some that are getting married after november, talk to your ta.
  4. I was so looking forward to the free stuff, but now sunquest isn't doing the RIU MB anymore, Sunwing is instead. I wonder what they offer?
  5. I just got a call from my travel agent, telling me that sunwing is taking over half of sunquest's RIU resorts. The RIU Montego Bay is one of them. Does anyone know how or if this will affect the wedding. Sunquest is already not honoring our wedding group rate. Help!
  6. Getting married in September in the carribean can't be any worse than getting married in January in Canada! lol
  7. Thank you for the reassurance. I really like the way you look at the situation. I can feel myself destressing already.
  8. Most kids these days have their own little electronic games like nintendo ds or psp. The older kids like the ipods. Just make sure there is lots of gum for them to chew on so their little ears don't hurt so much.
  9. I just booked my wedding for September 30th at the RIU MoBay and I'm really excited. I'm just not sure what to do now.....
  10. I never really thought about the staff issue. I just thought how nice it would be to have less people (guests) around. Apparently you also have a lot more options for the wedding because there is less demand by everyone else.
  11. I'm so excited because my wedding is officially booked for September 30th at he Riu MoBay, but some are questioning my choice of season. I always knew that it was in hurricane season, but never really thought too much about it. My question now is, what is the probability that a hurricane will hit during the wedding? Is there anyone out there that has this same concern? Is the storm that bad? Can you still be married during it, or does Jamaica ship everyone out of the country? I'm from northern Canada and don't have a clue about these things. Has anyone else dealt with all of this? Any information or feedback would be greatly appreciated.
  12. Hi girls! My name is Christine, and I live in northwestern Ontario, Canada. I have been engaged for about a year now, but it is time to really start planning some stuff. The wedding is in September, and we're getting married at the RIU Montego Bay. I'm hoping that you guys will give me some awesome ideas on how to make my day really special.
