  1. Gem I was going to have service on pier then beach and finally and still gazebo. But I'm still debating the reception, think I have settled on SSG but only because my step daughter wouldn't eat anything off the silver or gold menu and thats the only option for gazebo, beach or pier, would have loved the gazebo as i could have just turned the battery lights on inside the lanterns. Flowers I emailed and requested our rooms together in block 5 and I just got an email back saying they would try depending on occupency. So no guarantees. Dolfin after seeing your reception on the beach I would love that it looks fantastic and I too like the lights round the tree.

Two more then its me, so excited Just noticed on the last few posts about preferred club, someone saying about premium brands, are these only available if your preferred club? It doesn't say that on the website, does it? My best friend will be very upset as she only drinks Bombay Sapphire and I told her she would be able to get it. OOps

Welcome to the site, you will find a lot of answers here which is a lot easier than asking the wedding coordionators who are up to their eyes, and although your wedding is really important to you they realise its a year away and believe me you will change your mind on lots between now and then lol Ours is 7 weeks today and I've changed my mind on decoration, wedding ceremony and reception venue lol. Hope you enjoy your planning, I kinda miss havin it all to plan ( ask any questions here you'll always get answers
  7. Hope you have a safe ourney and a great wedding xoxo
  8. Thanks Jo that was just what I was looking for, so far I've picked John Jackson, Better when we're together, Jason Mraz I'm yours, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole somewhere over the rainbow as they all feel really "beachy" so I'm trying to find more like that. I was thinking of walking down the aisle to whitney I believe in me and you, but now I'm thinking its a bit cheesy. Our first dance is Natasha Beddingfields version of Chasing Cars, its my favourite song but the words mean even more now that I have been let down by my family. As for the decorations I'm bringing my real touch flowers with me as hand luggage, I'm flying with Thomas Cook and they allow you an extra suitcase for your wedding dress free, I am however bringing my dress in a heavy duty long suit cover and bringing it as hand luggage, so I'm putting the lanterns, girls dresses, mens suits and all our shoes in the extra suitcase. Thats why I'm worried about speakers I just can't fit any in!!! For those thinking of the Pier I think its sounds really beautiful, the thing that put me off was I was told by a girl who had been there on facebook that although they close the pier off for the wedding, people swim up to the pier and watch. This may not bother other people but I really didn't want people standing or floating around in bikinis watching me get married. She had said the gazebo was most private.
  9. Flowers AND Jonewhams just noticed your both from London, So good to have someone else from the Uk, though everyone on this site has been amazing for ideas, support and answers. Jo I'm pretty close to you in numbers and we had considered the gazebo to have our meal in, as we are decorating it for the wedding it just means a few battery lights in the lanterns and we get our monies worth out of the lanterns lol I'm the same as you, as there is only 12 of us, there is no point hiring a dj, but I would like it quite private so we can say a few words and have our first dance, after that I was just going to head to the niteclub, and I was wondering about the speakers myself, it seems a lot of money to hire speakers for a coulple of songs, can any of you married ladies tell us how this would work? Also I'm compiling my cd and ipod playlist for the wedding at the moment and I remember reading someones playlist, can anyone remember was it on this thread? I'm getting stuck for ideas, thanks Omg I can't believe how quickly we are going through that list!!! I can't quite believe I'm going to be there next month!! Good luck for all you May Brides xoxo
  10. Congratulations, your wedding looked beautiful, so glad you had a great time and thanks for the review, its always good to hear positive feed back xo
  11. Oh I am seriously worried about hair now as I really hate gel and tight curls, I am going to make my apts early. Were they happy enough to re do your hair? I wonder how it is ok on a trial and not on the day?
  12. Thanks Jenne for getting back to me, I haven't been on for a few days so its took me ages to read it all. Thanks Dasha your wedding sounds fantastic, its so good when people come back and tell us there opinions, as I'm sure you all feel nervous about their guests not enjoying it as I do. Oh Amy your wedding sounds amazing I'm so glad you had a good time, very nervous about my hair and make up now, I hate gel or hair spray on my hair, think I'll go for an early appointment so I can get them to change it if I don't like it!!! I'm lesley Boyd from Hillsborough United Kingdom if anyone wants to add me on fb

When you meet with her she will show you a photo album of other weddings and you get to pick what you want. The colour was perfect for our theme! Thanks Jenne for getting back so quickly, I had thought of using the lanterns with the battery operated lights in them, but we can't have our meal at the gazebo unless we pay for the silver menu and most of our guests would struggle to find anything they like of the silver menu (lots of picky eaters) so we are having our meal outside on the SSG Deck, so if I'm right there would be nowhere to hang the lanterns with the lights in them, would this be right? I loved the way the gazebo was decorated for your wedding so I may just go with that, did you get charged for the fabric in the gazebo and chairs? Also the zip lining looks AMAZING, I had not seen that anywhere and know my step kids would love that, do you think it was worth it? Sorry for asking so many questions :-)

Do you know I've been on this forum for ages, and I DID NOT know those chairs were free, I was actually quite worried about our budget as its just mounting up and up, but thats one thing i can tick off. jenne your photos on facebook are beautiful I cried from start to finish (what on earth will I be like on the day) One question though, Did Tiara have those pink sashes for the chairs or did you bring them?
  15. Thanks Jenne for the review it sounds perfect and you looked beautiful. I just can't wait now for mine xo
  16. If you look on trip adviser about 6 or 7 reviews down of Dreams La Romana, there is a good picture of the beach set up and you can see the natural arch, it says on the list that the natural arch is $175. They really do know how to charge, I really begrudge paying over the odds as we are already bringing people to their hotel who wouldn't normally go!!! So I'm bringing as much as I can with me, I'm bringing my own decorations for the gazebo (though in a slight panic about that as I can't get an answer from them) and I'm bringing real touch flowers. A few people have come back and said the flowers weren't great and they arrived late. At least the girl making my flowers is working with me and sends me pictures of them so i can change bits and pieces until I'm happy. Then instead of the brides bouquet that comes with the "complimentary" wedding package I'm going to get a table arrangement instead. I'm getting so excited, we started our paperwork on Friday, we got our single status affidavids done and posted everything away for legalisation. its starting to feel real now :-)
  17. Just seen the wedding review of DLR on trip adviser, glad now I decided against the beach, the bride is actually walking past the sun loungers, we were in Majestic Colonial in Punta Cana and it is what put me off getting married there, the gazebo was right in the middle of the pool area and women were walking right up to the gazebo in their bikinis, Really not what I want for my wedding photos. Anyone choosin a beach wedding, it might be an idea, what some people did at majestic was to ask a few people they had met down there and that aren't guests to ask holiday makers to be respectful and stay back!!!!
  18. Jenne I can't believe you are posting while you're there but I'm so so greatful. Thanks for keeping us up to date. And I hope you have an absolutely beautiful day today. Amy your journal is amazing What Are you going to do with yourself when this is over?? Maybe you should take it up as a career? Good luck and I hope you have a fab time. Love the blue I Do on your shoes
  19. Jenne, I hope you have a fantastic time, I'm so excited for you, I look forward to hearing how well it went, good luck xoxo
  20. BridgetDLRBride thank you soooo much for the review, it was really helpful, and thanks for the info about the lanterns xo

I am keeping it all as simple as I can... that is the point of doing it on an island. The beach and ocean are the decoration in my mind. Have you seen a picture of the natural arch? My head is spinning with all these options and choices, I had thought of the natural arch on the beach too, the thing that scares me is privacy, we were in Punta Cana last year and the amount of people that were just walking right up to the ceremony in their bikinis was terrible, thats why we chose here because the gazebo is quite private, but I always said I wanted to get married on a beach, so part of me thinks I should actually do it on the beach. But I haven't seen any pictures of the beach set up. Does anyone have any pictures?
  22. Great news folks, did anyone else get an email this morning? The day we have been waiting for has arrived...no not our weddings... but DLR has now got 2 wedding planners!!!!!! I just got a lovely email from her introducing herself and telling me she will answer all my questions later today, HOORAY Her name is Yanna Guzman and her email is [email protected] if any of you ladies need another contact. I definately think we should share some decorations if possible, and all try to keep the costs down, the proble is bringing the stuff with you, I have a hard time staying under 20kg even when just going for a week never mind getting married lol I don't think anyone is going with the same colour scheme as me, Hot pink and Black? I don't think having our meal in gazebo is a goer now as if you have to have the silver or gold menu me and the kids would really struggle to find anything we like. Amy did you say you were going to use the lanterns in the SSG, do the staff at the hotel set everything up for you, as I'd want the lanterns in the gazebo for our wedding and then moved to the SSG for our reception, i just have images of me in a big white dress standing on tables to tie them up lol Andrea it looks good, do you mind me asking what colour scheme you're havin? Has anyone heard anything from Bridget I'm dying to hear her review or have I missed it?? Gem I arrive on 30 June and leave on 14 July As for all you April brides I am sooooo excited for you all, its hard to believe this is your month, I hope you all have a great time and everything goes smoothly, and don't forget to let the rest of us know how it went and send us pictures lol
  23. I really can't believe they are charging $350 for a wooden arch!!!! They really do stick there arm in at every oportunity don't they. I was going to get married on the beach but I just refuse to pay anymore than absolutely nessessary, As we are coming from Ireland it is a 10 hour flight and £1300 per person, so we really have to reign the cost in somewhere. So when it says in the complimentary list "use of the gazebo and beach front area" Where exactly do you get at the beach front area? Because you pay for an arch you pay for the guppa and you pay for the wooden frame?? Sorry for yet another rant but the costs of this are just adding up and up and up and Tiara either doesn't answer or gives different answers!!!!
  24. Train, I was in Punta Cana last year, although not actually in the Dreams resort, but fi and I walked the full length of the beach and it was beautiful, not dark or murkey anywhere. Although I have not been to La Romana our travel agent who has been all round DR says Bayahibe is the best beach in the whole Dominican. I hope that helps. Thanks for that Dolphin luck, I may have to change my mind then, cos I actually didn't go for the silver or gold menu, as myself and the kids are quite picky eaters, I was kind of hoping as its right beside the SSG that we could pay a service charge and eat from their menu. Jenne, I have done that too, I have copies of all contracts and correspondance glued into a wedding book!!! Tiara has definately given some of us different answers and I'm taking no chances lol Gem I am really looking forward to meeting up with you and Andrea, so good that 3 of us will be there at same time. Maybride sorry to hear about your mum, she'll be watching over you making sure it all goes well
  25. Hi folks, thanks so much for all your support. We are going to have a ball, with the people who are going. Tony is the best thing that has ever happened to me and we have a really good life together, I am very close to his three kids. I think this is all down to jealousy and as you said they will regret it in the end. Gem its sooo mad that we're both in the same situation, and we're going to be there at the same time!!!! We can have a wee drink and compare notes lol I was upset until a guy in work told me he had paid for his daughter to get married abroad and two weeks before they went her h2b walked out on her and their baby, no explanation nothing. So wedding was cancelled and he lost £15000!!! It made me realise I'm not so bad after all, I have still got the love of my life and we can get through anything together. I just thought for any of you stressing it might also help you to know there is always someone in a worse position, it helped me appreciate the good instead of focusing on the bad. On the bright side I can now have my wedding and meal in the gazebo as there are now only 10 of us going. I have emailed Tiara to ask about the gazebo and prices but as per norm she has yet to reply lol Does anyone know what charges I will occur by having meal in gazebo? I am stealing (sorry) the lanterns idea and putting battery tea lights in them, and I thought it would be beautiful sitting in the gazebo eating with lanterns lit up. Also this may sound odd but the world cup is on while we are there, my friends and family are all mad about football, and there will be a riot if the cannot see the matches. Does anybody know if they have a tv room and sky, again I've asked Tiara but no reply. Sorry for long post xoxo
