  4. bit of an update. hope everyone's ok xx Flights to and from Brownsville-South Padre Island International Airport in southern Texas have been disrupted because of Hurricane Alex. Several Continental and American Eagle flights were cancelled and some outbound flights were also affected by the approaching storm. Tropical Storm Alex Details: Location: Approximately 175 km (110 miles) east-northeast of La Pesca, Mexico Intensity: Category 1 - maximum sustained winds of 135 kph (85 mph) with higher gusts Affected Areas: Northeastern Mexico, southeastern Texas Summary Hurricane Alex has strengthened only slightly as it continues to move toward the Mexican coast. Meteorologists predict the storm could intensify to Category 2 just before its centre of circulation makes landfall near San Fernando, Tamaulipas State, Mexico. US President Barack Obama has declared a state of emergency in Texas in anticipation of damaging winds and rain from Alex. Isolated tornadoes and severe thunderstorms accompanying the hurricane are likely across the entire landfall area. Alex is a particularly large and slow-moving storm. The slower the storm moves, the more rain will fall on a given area, increasing the likelihood of localised flooding. Rainfall accumulations of 15-30 cm (6-12 inches) are probable, with isolated areas receiving up to 51 cm (20 inches). Flash flooding and mudslides are likely, particularly in mountainous areas. Meteorologists predict Alex will generate a strong storm surge, with waves of 1-1.5 metres (3-5 feet) above normal levels, along coastal areas near and to the north of where Alex makes landfall. Expect localised transportation, business, telecommunications, and utility disruptions. Watches and Warnings Hurricane Warning: Coast of Texas from Baffin Bay to the Rio Grande; coast of Mexico from the Rio Grande south to La Cruz Tropical Storm Warning: Coast of Texas from Baffin Bay to Port O'Connor; coast of Mexico from south of La Cruz to Cabo Rojo Advice Review emergency preparedness plans and take proper precautions. Stock up on bottled water and other emergency supplies. Expect power and telecommunications outages. Verify the operational status of all roads and businesses prior to travel. Heed the advice of local authorities. Resource National Hurricane Center: National Hurricane Center
  5. good for you!!! your wedding is about you and your future husband! i get married in 1 month, so ill let you know about the weather soon
  6. this is going to sound really mean and i don't mean it to, but im glad it's not just me!! seems a destination wedding makes a lot of people act like b@stards!!! that's a good idea, i'm hiding her now!
  7. awwwwwww honey, that sucks. my brother had a VERY similar situation to you, his bestman pulled out and none of his friends came. in the end he paid for his bestman to come, flights and hotel in hawaii and suits etc. madness. i wouldn't have done it, especially as he had to share a room with his best man for the first 5 days and his wife to be had to share with her brother!!!! people are very selfish and i think things like this really bring to light where people's loyalty's lay! it's hard to move on from isn't it? i know i'm meant to just get over it, but i can't. everything she does is like a kick in the stomach. i bet you both feel similarly. but what can you do? at least we know our wedding day's will be fabulous and it's THEM who will be missing out, not us. p.s. i get married one month today! whooooop!
  8. Hey ladies i agree, there are many things you could be doing. are you going to make your stationery or buy it? you might want to start looking at that. also thinking of themes, looking at things you'd want as centrepieces/placecards/favours which are easily transportable (as you'll be packing everything) that kind of thing! good luck! i need some advice from you girls. i have a friend, we were best friends for about 6 years. we used to go on holiday together all the time (barbados twice a year) and because we're so close i know how she works, i know what she earns etc etc. when i got engaged and booked Mexico she said her and her boyf would only be able to come for a week, because of cost. i TOTALLY understand that, it's not cheap. then about a week later she said only she would come, because her boyf's job doesn't have paid leave etc. totally understand. then a little bit later she said they couldnt' come at all because they were planning on trying for a baby in late 2010 and they needed to save money. i was a little bit put out, but what can you do. anyway, since then the boyf has got a new job, 5 weeks paid leave etc and a payrise. she has also had a promotion and a £5k payrise and an off the cuff £3k bonus too. (I know all this, because she's not shy in telling people she earns £58k a year etc etc) . But even so, they haev never mentioned coming to the wedding (oh, she's also a bridesmaid!!) on her facebook last week it said 'Friend A is looking at holidays in the Dominican Republic, anyone been?' so i was a bit pee'd off to say the least. but i didn't say anything. she sent me an email linking me to a hotel in dom rep asking me what i think!!! what could i say?! i said it looks nice and she said that if she could afford our wedding she'd do that but she can't. basically she's making the excuse that the Moon Palace is a lot more expensive, which im sure it is, but she doesn't have to stay there! a few of our friends are staying at other, cheaper resorts and coming in for a day or two. last night her status said 'Friend A is considering the Sandals resort in Cuba, anyone been?' now every time i read it i feel like ive been kicked in the stomach. lots of people text me last night saying 'omg have you seen friend a's status?' so i know im not alone in thinking it's out of order. i don't know how to 'get over it' because i don't want it to bother me. i don't want her to come to my wedding now anyway, she's clearly not the friend i thought she was. but it still hurts every time i see it. i don't expect any of you to make it better, but any advice?!
  9. I hope no-one is effected by this, but thought i'd give an update. I just recieved this: Tropical storm moving towards US-Mexican border Tropical Storm Alex is growing stronger as it moves towards the US-Mexican border. Landfall is projected for early on 1st July. Flash flooding and mudslides are possible. The locations affected by this alert are: Monterrey Texas - Brownsville Texas - Corpus Christi Texas - Harlingen Texas - McAllen Gulf of Mexico. Tropical Storm Alex Details (0400 CDT 29th June): Location: Approximately 650 km (405 miles) south east of La Pesca, Mexico Intensity: Maximum sustained winds of 110 kph (70 mph) with higher gusts Affected Areas: Northeast Mexico, southeast Texas Summary Tropical Storm Alex continues to strengthen as it moves north west across the Gulf of Mexico. Meteorologists predict the storm will reach Category 1 hurricane strength before making landfall near the Texas-Mexico border early on 1st July. The storm will bring heavy rainfall to the region. Accumulations of 13-25 cm (5-10 inches) of rain are forecast. Flash floods and mudslides are possible. A strong storm surge with waves up to 0.9-1.5 metres (3-5 feet) above normal levels is projected along coastal areas near and to the north of where Alex makes landfall. Expect localised transportation, business, telecommunications, and utility disruptions. Mexico has closed the Cayo Arcas and Dos Bocas ports in response to the storm. The two ports handle most of Mexico's oil exports through the Gulf of Mexico; disruptions to oil shipments are likely, especially if either port sustains damage. Several oil platforms have been closed and personnel in the storm path evacuated. Watches and Warnings Hurricane Warning: Coast of Texas from Baffin Bay to the Rio Grande; coast of Mexico from the Rio Grande south to La Cruz Tropical Storm Warning: Coast of Texas from Baffin Bay to Port O'Connor Advice Review emergency preparedness plans and take proper precautions. Stock up on bottled water and other emergency supplies. Verify the operational status of all roads and businesses prior to travel. Heed the advice of local authorities.
