great review! Is there a hierarchy to the Iberostar resorts? i.e. if you stay at resort x you get to go to all, but if you stay at resort y you can only use resort y?

To check, go to the hotels website and attempt to book a 1 night reservation (don't actually complete it, of course). If it allows it, there's no minimum...

Hi, I have e-mailed through the paradisus website and have not heard back from anyone (it's only been 2 days but I feel quite impatient)... does anyone have a direct e-mail address for a WC at the Paradisus? Also -- I'm considering this and a few other resorts -- the barcelo maya palace, the grand palladium, & the ocean turquesa... any advice on which is best? Or I guess since this is the paradisus thread, why did you choose the paradisus over some of the others? (and I was 99.9% set on the Barcelo palace until I started looking around more and discovered the paradisus, the turquesa, and the grand palladium..... )

Hi everyone, I'm considering the ocean turquesa as well ... right now I'm choosing between the barcelo maya palace, the grand palladium, the princess riviera, and the ocean turquesa. I've read through the entire thread and can't find out if anyone had a private cocktail hour and then reception on the beach? Is this available? I've e-mailed and asked but have not yet heard back. I don't think i'm doing a group booking.. We're having the wedding at a large property (4 hotels on one property) in Playa del Carmen in the low season (July) so hopefully it won't be a problem selling out/etc. The resort is currently on Expedia for cheap ($987 for air/hotel/all-incl) for this summer so I think we are taking a chance on next summer being similar. I don't know if this is correct or not, really -- I just want my guests paying the lowest possible costs... However they are open to book however they want.... Hopefully it won't come back and bite me in the butt!

Hi, I have to say I'm skeptical of TA's (nothing personal, I promise!) as I have had bad experiences in the past and such -- but I am planning my wedding @ the barcelo maya palace and I'm not really sure how to proceed with providing my guests information on when / how to book. Everyone will likely be leaving from the same area of the country but probably on different dates. I want to give my guests the best prices possible and my experiences with travel agents in the past, the prices have been nowhere near as good as what I could book on my own. I want to tell them to wait until spring to book for July 2010 -- but my question is, is if I enlisted the help of a TA, would I be able to get good rates NOW for summer 2010? I don't really understand how 'group rates' work and all but from what I understand, I put a deposit up and I get that money back after the rooms are booked? I'm unsure it's the best way to go, basically... I don't want my friends and family to pay more than what they need to -- so is there any hope of finding a TA that will quote me prices that are competitive, and not provide false information? (sorry to sound so negative and rambling on and on..) Thx!

I picked july/august because it's the most economical to travel.. so if price is important for you and your guests, jul/aug is best. If price isn't a concern, feb is probably best but be careful of any school vacation weeks.. .

BethBride1, did you get the strawberry package? That one I believe includes the beach reception.. also - how did you reserve a group of rooms? Did you do that through the WC or through the front desk or ?? And can you please tell me the group rate you got ? We are doing July 2010 at the Barcelo, so it will be really helpful. And I haven't signed anything yet -- I have provided WC Claudia with the information and she has "written me in" but that's as far as we've gotten. I hope to do the deposit/etc this week. Thank you !

So much has happened since my last blog post (well not really, but it seems that way). I've picked a resort. 99.999999% sure it will be the Barcelo Maya Palace. The WC there (Claudia) has finally started returning my emails, I've received the 2010 packages, and things are looking up! We are spending a bit more than planned but it will be better in the long run (I hope). We're doing the beach reception which is spendy but sounds soooooo fabulous! I had a travel agent but fired her because the whole thing was a sham and I was completely lied to. Not getting into it but I think that I can help my friends/family book and/or they can use their own TA to book their travel. My fiance and I opened up a joint checking account (yowza's!). I'm normally 50000% against joint accounts but this one has the sole purpose of being the "wedding account" so I feel like it's okay. Neither of us will be withdrawing $$ from it without talking to the other person first (I hope that he consideres Jimmy Choo shoes a 'wedding expense' lol) Anyway I've also narrowed down my photographer to 3 choices and hopefully once I finalize the date with the Barcelo, I can choose which photographer I want. They're all currently available for my date and they all have fab portfolio's so I'm torn as to who to pick. OK that's it for now. i am also struggling with this.. however I don't have a good timeline nailed down from the resort yet. i know that we are having a 3:00pm wedding but honestly I have NO idea how long it will take "getting ready" and I don't know the time between the wedding, cocktail hour, and reception. I guess I really need to nail it all down, but I was thinking 8 hours anyway.. I would hope 8 hours would be enough

miracle of all miracles -- I got a response! Claudia emailed me and I have since replied back to her and she is very responsive. yay! So I think I'm now 99.9999% set on the Barcelo palace -- I think we are going with the strawberry package -- it's a bit more spendy than we originally planned but the private beach reception/dinner is what sold me on it...
