Who knew she was just a frequent resort guest....I almost would have believed that she worked for them! lol.

Thanks for the quick response! That does help a bit but I just worry that a country that hadn't experienced such a quake in 200 years had 2 in just a week and 2 that were high on the Richter scale! Thanks for the info, especially since your dad is the one that's there.

Bringing items down for relief aid for Haiti
KPEG replied to dolfinluck's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
Thanks Dolphinluck! I was also thinking of bringing things to help them out when we are there in May. It breaks my heart everytime I read about the country. -
Maybe I'm a wee bit of a worry-wart....but is anyone concerned about your wedding/travels to the DR because of the proximity of the earthquakes in Haiti? Our wedding is in May but I'm a bit concerned. Not to be selfish though, I feel for the people of Haiti and pray for them to recover from this disaster.

Hourglass sand ceremony?
KPEG replied to Peachy~Girl's topic in Wedding Flowers, decoration, cake, etc.
Cool. I wish I thought of this before I ordered a normal type of vase. I even had it engraved already. oh well. Really good idea and no worries of mixing the sand if you girls can find a good vendor! Good luck. -

Hey girls, do any of you have pictures of flowers/bouquets that Tiara provided? Or what's available at the resort? I'm just wondering if I should think about it beforehand. Thanks!

Custom Linen Suits $99!
KPEG replied to FoxyBride's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I just want to say that I as a bit hesitant to order from this site but no worries ladies!! I ordered swatches on Jan 2 and they were delivered to my door on Jan 7!! Amazing! And the linen quality is great! They were prompt, sent follow up emails and provided tracking numbers throughout the whole process. We'll be waiting until next month (so my fiance can lose some more weight) then take measurements to order a suit. -
Nadia: Are you counting down yet? Only one week until your site visit! So excited for you. Please take lots of pictures and share all the info you are able to gather!! Have fun.

Calling Canadian/Winnipeg brides
KPEG replied to KPEG's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
Thanks Jenn. I also heard back from Centennial Animal Hospital/boarding. They suggested that we bring our own food to any kennel just because changing a dog's food can cause upset tummies and loose stool, etc. But they also provide everything. I've read most places allow you to bring your dog's own things if you prefer. Likewise, my dog loves his bed! And as long as it's machine washable, it's fine with them. I haven't heard any real reviews or feedback about them but they are the same price and are a little closer since they are still in the city. The dogs are kept in kennels but are let out 4 times a day. I may go down there and check them out personally, and they did recommend that we do this when choosing a kennel. I might not have time this month, but I'll be sure to update when I get more details. Thanks for your info. -

Please let me know if they take dogs for a week. I see they have a daycare on their website. That was one I looked at online before too but didnt go further. Now that it's getting closer I need to get serious! I was going to look into Centennial Animal Hospital on Pembina (way out of our way but what can you do?!). They look ok, but I need to contact them for more info. I'll share any info I get from them. Thanks. -

Hey Winnipeg Girls! Hope you all enjoyed the holdays! It was break from all the planning but now that the new year is upon us...it's back to all the craziness, especially with my wedding being in 4.5 months!! eeeeek! This is a post for the Winnipeg girls who own pets... Does anyone know of a good place to send our dog for the week that we are away? He is our 15 year old poodle/terrier who needs good care since he is aging. We don't know anyone who can take him for the week and though would like to have someone come to the house to check on him and let him out during the days, we know it's probably not convenient or practical to have someone come over 4 or more times a day. We also prefer not to have someone stay in the house for the week either. Any recommendations for kennels? Hotels? Places for me to read reviews? Thanks!!! -
Non-breakable vases Where?? And yes, I was wondering how best to bring the vases down too. I'm bringing vases for a sand ceremony with coloured sand. (still trying to figure out how to get it home without mixing) And I'm also thinking about round fish bowls down for centrepieces. I was going to fill them with sand from the beach and throw some shells in on top of the sand and put a little votive in it too.

I'm sure between the resort photographer and everyone else we will end up with some great pictures for an album! I have the Ultimate Package too so the photographer is included. I really don't want to pay for another one. But I also don't hope I regret the decision. I guess I'm with you on this then Jenne. Thanks for the info though girls! I'll check them out for curiosity sake.

Any opinions on what colour I should choose to go with my white organza dress?? I was thinking English Beige from the StudioSuits website but from the swatches, Beige Linen looks nicer to me now. And I totally understand it would be the settings on my PC but what would you girls choose with white organza? It's also a pretty formal dress. Thanks! -
Hey girls, sorry if we already discussed this but is anyone using the resort photographer? I know this is not the place to skimp but for the sake of ease, I'm thinking of just using them and hoping that family will take a bunch of shots too.

Activities/ Excursions in La Romana
KPEG replied to nsimpson's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
I am hoping to plan a group excursion too, but I have no idea what everyone could do together. Last time a few of us were on a catamaran, we got sick. This time we are going to skip it (or bring lots of gravol!) or try something that will be good for a baby too. My group ranges from 8 mos old to 60 y/o! Let me know what you find though! thx. -
Travelling with infant/baby
KPEG replied to KPEG's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
We've already paid our full balances (which I thought was ridiculous too! - our wedding is not until May 2010 and the group had to pay in full by Nov 2009!), so we probably can't have the transfers removed from our packages. I will ask her what company they are using for ground transportation. Hopefully she will help. It's unfortunate that I lack so much confidence in her. And just want to make this trip as easy as possible for the family especially for my sister and her baby! Thx again Maureen. -
Travelling with infant/baby
KPEG replied to KPEG's topic in Destination Weddings in Dominican Republic
Thanks Maureen. Right now, my group is about 18 people. Do you think we would be getting our own personal ground transportation anyway? Just from the last 2 times I was in the DR, we were on a little shuttle "bus" that maybe only seated 20. The problem here is that my travel agent is not very helpful and she can't/won't tell me what kind of transportation we will have. She also just said "people won't mind" if we bring a car seat "if there's room". I would appreciate more concrete information from her! 2.5 hours at 8pm is making me really worried. -
Is anyone booking hair/makeup appointments prior to arrival at the resort? I was just going to do when I got there but some people are telling me not to wait!
