  1. I saw the show... and it made me so upset!! One of the brides had my dress and she looked terrible in it. Granted she was 20+ years older than me and probably about 50 lbs more. All of the other brides gave her the lowest rating for her dress too. It totally made me second guess my choice in dresses. I don't want a dress that the other brides didn't like!! Fortunately i have a wonderful best friend who brought me back to my senses... i look smoking hot in the dress and i can't judge myself based off of how other people look in it.
  2. Monica called us a week early for our appointment. My FI was like, "umm... our appointment is next week." She also tried telling me some things I wanted for my wedding weren't possible even though other brides have done the exact same thing I asked her about. Wait until you get there to make any decisions. Just make sure you have your basics to take along with you. The paperwork, attire, music, ceremony script, decorations you want, etc. And at the end of the day... you'll be married and that's what really matters.
  3. I would recommend something longer than a crash course. I'm the type of person that takes time to process things. If we did everything we've done so far with our counseling in a weekend, I'd feel completely overwhelmed. Processing your emotions and understanding (and remembering) the things you talked about is the reason for doing counseling... make the most of it and take your time.

  5. I heard the BEST father daughter dance song ever last night on XM. "Walk with You" by Edwin McCain. Totally wanted to cry and know it will make my dad ball like a little baby. YouTube - "Walk With You" - Edwin McCain What ones are you guys using?
  6. As a "get ready for the trip" present, we're making a CD of party/island themed/drinking songs. We'll give that to them a week or two before the trip. That won't cost alot and we won't have to pack them in our suitcases to give them out there. We're also having small candy jars engraved with our names, the date and the island name to give to them at the reception dinner. We're going to fill them with sand from the island as a reminder of the trip. We only have 15 people coming with us so 15 jars isn't too expensive or much to travel with. We're still debating which company to go with but it looks like most estimates on the cost are $120-$175.
  7. I started a thred like this a couple days ago: check out the responses I got so far: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...d-gifts-55937/
  8. great ideas guys! Thanks so much for your input. Just thought of more... Tequila by the Champs, Hot, Hot, Hot by Dexter Poindexter and Late in the Evening by Paul Simon. I used to play Late in the Evening in Pep band in college and never knew the lyrics, but the tune is fun.
  9. I'm thinking of burning CDs for our guest to give them the week before we go on our trip to kind of get them in the mood for a fun relaxing time. I've only come up with a couple of songs so far though... I need help with coming up with more. I have- Toes- Zach Brown Band 5:00 Somewhere- Alan Jackson/Jimmy Buffet Everybody wants to go to Heaven- Kenny Chesney Say Hey (I love you)- Michael Franti Cheeseburger in Paradise- Jimmy Buffet (inside joke) Soak up the Sun- Sheryl Crow Margaritaville- Jimmy Buffet
  10. My FI and I are doing a "Prepared to Last" DVD series. We live about 45 minutes away from each other and both work two jobs so finding time to meet with a counselor is very hard. The DVD series gives us the time to do it on our own and at our own pace. We had to take an individual online quiz before we started the series- it detailed stengths and weaknesses in our relationship. I could always sense what we were less than great at but to have it in writing really helped. The 1st lesson was a huge eye opener. We talked about expectations. What I expect from my husband and what he expects from his wife, what we expect from families, life, friends, of the household chores. It was pretty awesome. The lesson on intimacy and sex is coming up in a couple weeks. I'm not really looking forward to that lesson. I've had some situations in the past that I've learned to cope with by putting up walls- especially when it comes to being intimate. I always knew that was an area we needed improvement in our relationship but to see how important it is to my FI and see how 'disappointed' he is with that part of the relationship really hurt a little but really makes me want to work through it more now that I know.
  11. I agree and understand what you guys are staying... I understand that there are some things that you might want upgraded. I'm just annoyed with the microphone thing and charging us to deliver packages/set up our decorations. What if I have someone who is hard of hearing in my family? I have to pay $150 for them to set us up with microphones so my family can hear our vows What if we didn't like the wedding decorations (especially now that they changed the packages). When I booked they were doing the preston bailey stuff- it was so much nicer than the martha stewart crap. I don't like their sand ceremony vases. I just assumed I could bring my own, are they going to charge me for that too? It's things like this that annoy me. They aren't anywhere in writing. If you didn't ask, you wouldnt' know that it would cost you to do this stuff. And getting stuff in writing is a pain in the butt too- it takes over a week for our WC in Miami to get back to us and she doesn't even answer your questions fully. This is giving me gray hair.

I'm not pleased, since when I originally looked into Sandals, their reps kept telling me that everything was included, and I could have as large (and long) of a party as I wanted. At this point, I've been rethinking using the Sandals resort we're booked at, at all. I'm tempted to go with another company. oh no! don't to that! well, at least if you do, you can still get most of your money back. When I first started looking at locations, I went onto beaches.com and asked the agents questions over instant messagner. I specifically asked them if there were any other charges other than the government fees for us to get married there. They only went into detail regarding the receptions, nothing about the extra crap I'm finding out about now. I chose a destination wedding because I can't afford a wedding at home. With the size of our families, a destination wedding with immediate family is all that I can afford. I can't afford all these added expenses that they didn't tell me about. Life is too short and there are more important things than to worry about than a wedding... I want to focus on having a good marriage instead of worrying about how we're going to pay off the wedding once it's over.

We will give our guests there bags when they arrive, we are going to have our "reception dinner" at one of the restaurants & since we only have 12 people including us that shouldn't be an issue. I would rather spend my money on a massage than $175 flowers you can't even bring back to the US. Chrissy Monica tried convincing Sterling and I to go with the full reception because she can't guarantee that our party will be able to be seated together at one of the restaurant for dinner together. There are only 17 of us total. So I asked her what would happen if we wanted to eat dinner together any other night, they couldn't accomidate that? She couldn't really give me an answer. I think she realized I called her on her "untruth". It's hard to keep everything in perspective. You just really need to think about what you're going to remember about your wedding 50 years from now. What was important, that you got the flowers you wanted or a massage that helped you relax and enjoy your vacation... I vote for the massage!!!!
  14. I've talked to some of you already but I'm willing to host a get together at my house in Harrisburg, PA sometime in early/mid April. PM me if you are interested- I know there are at least 2 wanting to get together right now.
  15. I talked to my wedding coordinator from Miami last week. The hidden fees are ridiculous. $150 to set up a microphone so your guests can hear the service, $5 to deliver items to your guests rooms for you. Someone told me they charge you $50 to set up your own decorations... Crazy. I wish they would've told you about all the fees up front. I feel like I'm going to get hit with a huge bill to take home.
  16. Just wondering what everyone else is doing about marriage counseling. My fiancee and I have a great relationship and didn't see any noticable concerns as we approach our wedding day. But we have really benefitted from it so far and I was wondering if anyone else learned anything important or that they want to share...
  17. Hey! Congrats on your wedding and picking Beaches-Turks and Caicos. I'm in the middle of planning my wedding there- May 14th is the big day. When is your wedding? A lot of the Martha Stewart stuff is new and the wedding coordinators are sending mixed info. I would consider waiting a couple weeks until they get everything figured out. They are still working on some of the flower packages and extras. In the meantime- check out Meagan's review. http://bestdestinationwedding.com/fo...ictures-55142/ She just got married there a couple weeks ago and her review is soooooo helpful. I'm doing a phone call with Monica (wedding coordinator in Miami) this afternoon and I'll ask your questions to her. Something to consider that I know Meagan did and I'm doing. We purchased clay flower off of Estys. The flowers are beautiful and look incredible real. They are also 1/3 of the price that they charge you at Beaches and you get to keep them forever! go to Etsy :: Your place to buy and sell all things handmade and type in FentonFlorals as the seller. Her flowers are beautiful! I know a couple of us are using Tropical Imaging for our day after/trash the dress pictures. I've heard many mixed reviews regarding the photographer at Beaches and well... i want my pictures to be perfect! Tropical Imaging does an amazing job! turks and caicos photography and video blog - weddings and portraits | Brilliant by Tropical Imaging hope that helps. GOOD LUCK!!!!
  18. just saw the Finishing Touches Catologue... it's laughable. The prices are outragous and items aren't practical. $50 for a "wedding this way" sign?!?!?!?!
  19. THANK YOU!!!! I really appreciate all your feedback. it's definitely putting me at ease for my wedding... 3 months from Sunday!! You have been such a great help. Can't thank you enough.
  20. Either the theme song from Meet Joe Black (beautiful!) or "Love never fails you" by Brandon Heath
  21. My FI was playing with the idea of filling the vase with water before we corked it. Thinking that wet sand doesn't mix as easily as dry sand. Then when we got home, we could let it air out. Any thoughts?
  22. Hey all you central PA brides! My FI and I just put an offer in on a house in Harrisburg today (keep your fingers cross- it's a great house!) We'd be willing to have everyone over in April after we get all moved in and the yucky kitchen painted (it's pink!). PM me with some dates that work for you. And jamaica0510, you didn't pay too much for your trip. We paid $7200 for our airfair and a 12 day stay in Turks and Caicos. If you want, take a look and see what the prices are now. If they are cheaper, just cancel your reservation and book the trip again tomorrow with the cheaper price.
  23. yeah, i bought my first house at 23. Buying another one and renting the first one out really makes me feel old. I'll be someone's landlord and I'm not even 29 yet! oh dear... they say time flies when you're having fun.
