  1. So I am really bummed. My fiance and I are flying down to the Riu Palace RM and will be staying there for 3 days. The main purpose for our trip is to assess the hotel and meet w/ the WC for an informational session re our potential wedding at RPRM. My procrastination really got the best of me bc I just contacted the WC yesterday to schedule the informational on any day betw Apr13-16. She got back to me in the afternoon and stated that april is their busiest month, but that she would be able to meet with me on Apr 25th at 200pm. Lordy! My FI is going to kill me if he finds out I dropped the ball on this one. I have to salvage this....I sent her a second email begging for a meeting, please cross your fingers for me guys....I hope she gets back to me w/ better news. Josie, ShellK---I too plan on getting married at a court house b4 the actual big day. There's just too much hoopla to go thru in order to do the real thing here in Mexico. My cousin had her DW at the Riu Palace Punta Cana last Aug and she did the same thing, that is, got married at a court house or city hall(not sure which one) in NY b4 going dwn to Punta CAna for her actual wedding. She had the non-recognized ceremony in Punta CAna, but it was officiated by a Minister and no one was the wiser. Except for a couple of us in her wedding party.
  2. Shell--Yes! DO NOT CHECK YOUR DRESS. My cousin got married at Riu Punta Cana in Aug 2008. She had her fiance (now hubby) carry her dress on board. We just didnt want to risk any horror stories. The store where you purchase the dress dhoud provide you with a garment bag. My cuz also brought a steamer w/ her just in case dresses needed to be pressed, but the hotel provided a regular iron in each room and all girls just pressed there own dresses. As for hers, it didnt need any pressing, but I think the hotel provides services to press the dress. Good Luck on the dress search! Josie--Your wedding website is beautiful! BDW is such a great site, I cant believe I just found it yesterday and already know soo much info.
  3. Ive been reading several posts and apparently the wedding cake offered by the hotel -- Riu Palace Riveria Maya isnt tasty at all. Kimmy, Melinda, wedding0610, sjfreimark--do you know if we can bring in out own cake from outside vendor? Ive read of good things re: Turtle Bay Cafe Bakery.
  4. Kimmy Congrats!!! The info you've provided is sooo helpful. I am going down to Riu Palace in 3 wks to assess the hotel and meet w/ wedding planner. Everyone on this thread seems so prepared and meticulous...I need to get on the ball Hello wedding06010 or Sjfreimark, could you please fwd me the 2010 package info?? I'd really appreciate it bc it will help my fiance and I put things into perspective. thx [email protected]

Beaded, mermaid, princess, sweetheart neck, halter?? To get an idea, what I did was look through several wedding magazines and tabbed off certain kinds of styles that caught my eye. I went to a store that was recommended to me by my friend and that catered only to wedding dresses (brides, maids, mother of brides, etc). FYI--Call the store 1st and make an appt. I called the morning of and was told that I was lucky to get a spot. This is bc each bride gets an assistant to help them and depending on how booked the store is, your appt could run from 1 -2 hrs. The assistant will ask you what's your budget. You should definitely give them a range bc you dont want her/him pulling out a 30k dress when your budget is only 5k. You dont want to be disappointed when you fall in love w/ a dress you cant get. Show or tell the assistant the types of dresses you like. She will pull several dresses for you to try on. Once you put the dress on, you'll know if the style is or isnt for you. Dont be pressured into buying or putting a deposit rt away. I say visit at least 3 stores and try on several dresses to make sure you've found the one. This wont apply if you absolutely love the dress or you are getting the floor sample on a killer deal. You want to be in love w/ your choice. My cousin put a deposit on a dress she found at the 1st store she visited. 1 yr later she found a dress she liked better and it was a whole lot of hoopla before she worked out an arrangement for getting the deposit back (basically all of the bridesmaids ordered their dresses from the store and her deposit was credited towards the maids dresses). That's bascially it. Hope this helps. GL:)

  9. Hello BDW noobies & oldies! I've been engaged for 1 yr now and my fiance and I decided to get married at the Riu Palace Riviera Maya in Feb 2010. We are scheduled to fly dwn there April 13th to meet w/ a wedding planner and to assess the hotel. HOWEVER, with all the hype re: the civil unrest in Mexico, my family and friends are making us have second thoughts. I literally had a blowout w/my Dad last night and I hated talking to my Dad with such a tone. Thus, I've joined BDW simply to attain info re: destination weddings in Mexico and to get advice from similarly situated persons. I want to hit my parents with as much info as possible. Excited to be here! MBettyB soon to be MrsBettyL
