  1. I plan to do a legal ceremony before we go, and as others have said, worry about the name change things after returning. I don't think doing the legal ceremony before or after is really a big deal though. I think just doing whatever makes you feel good, you should do. Afterall, a piece of paper isn't what makes it special, it's whatever ceremony or symbolism you feel fits that makes the real difference.
  2. In response to STD's, I think that the sooner you can get them out the better. The longer your guests have to plan out what they need to save the better. As soon as i do figure out where we're getting married and have it booked, my STD's are going out.
  3. So for everyone who did decide on a resort already, how did you go about deciding? There's just so many choices, and really, they all sound good to me. Endlesslove, which resort are you getting married at?
  4. Kamerrence, the Moon Palace won't have their 2010 packages announced for a couple more weeks, so I'm just going to do research on other places for the time being, and if I can get a good deal on Moon Palace, then maybe I'll still have my wedding there. I really want to get married on the beach, and it sounds like MP's beach isn't really nice. I don't care so much about the horse drawn carriage, it sounds wonderful, but it's not a big deal for me. So, I guess if I can find another resort that has a nice beach for a wedding and is a reasonable price for my guests to save up, then I won't do Moon Palace. Has anyone had any experiences with a travel agent yet? I am supposed to be hearing from someone from this site. Maybe the TA will be able to help me find a more reasonable price with a beach wedding site.
  5. So I thought I had really decided on the Moon Palace, but now after reading lots of posts I am realizing that I have chosen one of the most expensive resorts for guests. I need to do a little more research because some of my most important guests do not know how to budget and save money. I was hoping people would be willing to share their resorts and what kind of group rates they received. Thanks lots!
  6. Oh, that's so exciting that you're from Portland too. We're planning our wedding 3/6/10, just four weeks after yours. I was planning to get married at the Moon Palace, but I've been reading posts today about how much more expensive it is for guests, so now I'm thinking about researching some other places. What made you go with the Marriott?
  7. Wow, I didn't realize that MP was so expensive for guests. I was pretty sure I was going to go with this resort, but after reading this thread, I should probably look into other resort's group rates because my guests definitely have problems saving money, even if the wedding is a year away.
  8. I wanted to start a thread specifically for 2010 brides who may be going through the same similar stresses and need someone to relate. So why not introduce yourself and we can all kind of support each other throughout the year. I know that I've been stressing a little since there isn't much info out there yet for 2010 packages, reservations, etc. I know it's a year away, but my friends and family are wanting to know information already. I've decided I want to have my wedding at Moon Palace, but I'm still deciding where I'd like to honeymoon. I think we'll be running into the spring break crowd pretty bad during our honeymoon, so possibly somewhere in the Riviera Maya. So what decisions have you finalized already and what decisions do you need help on?
  9. I'm choosing Moon Palace for lots of reasons. 1)I want a beach wedding. 2)Free excursions if you do 3+night stay, and I'd like to organize group outings (Tulum ruins, snorkeling, etc.)for our guests. 3)No need for a large reception because we are having huge AHR 4 months later. MP offers free dinner reservations for one night, and if you have enough rooms booked you get a free cocktail hour. 4)Seems to be lots of options for free activities for guests (can get into the other palace hotels even though moon palace is already huge). 5)Horse drawn carriage for bride option. 6)Pretty good reviews. 7)MP doesn't seem too close to the spring break crowd that may have an early start (getting married the first weekend of March).
  10. I went to a formal wedding where they invited people through their wedding website and had no paper invitations. I think it's a good way to save money and paper if you know your guests are able to have internet access. Go for it!
  11. So I think I have narrowed it down, and I am 75% sure I will be planning my wedding at the Moon Palace resorts. I was hoping that people could share with me why they've chosen Moon Palace. I know that many have probably shared already, but there's over 100 pages to search through in this thread, and I'd really like to get some feedback from people who will be getting married there soon. Thanks!
  12. I am planning on doing my wedding on the beach, and I'm really leaning towards the no shoes thing right now. I know that my FH wants to wear shoes though, so it might be weird if I don't wear shoes and he does, but I just might be weird and do it anyway. I think it's fun to have it be a shoes optional wedding for everyone. And I wouldn't do flip flops, unless they were exceptionally nice ones, but in general, I personally don't like flip flops with pretty dresses.
  13. I was wondering how people came to choose their wedding planners? Did you choose a place and go with the hotel's wedding planner, did you search the web for one, was one recommended to you, or did you decide to go without one? I'm trying to decide what would be the best thing to do for myself and am interested in hearing other people's journey's. Thanks.
  14. Hi, I just got engaged, and am wanting to do a destination wedding in April/March 2010. So, I'm looking for advice on when to do everything, and what I should be focusing on now. When should I ask someone to be in your wedding party? When should I send out STD's? Thanks.
  15. I'm brand new to the planning and am wondering what the benefits are of legally getting married at home before the wedding in Mexico. I'm thinking that the overall planning is easier if you do it that way. Is that correct?
  16. Hi, my name is Suzanne, and I just got engaged last Friday, December 26th. My FH and I have been talking about getting married for awhile though, so I already have known that I'd be planning a destination wedding. At this point, I am leaning towards Cancun and doing an April 2010 wedding, but nothing is for sure yet. Love to hear any suggestions or ideas. Thanks.
