That would definitely make a difference! I've lived in Wisconsin and Boston all my life, so the winters here with low humidity and intermittent warmer weather in the winter makes it a piece of cake for me... I guess it's all relative! I can understand you feeling colder in the mountains, though - there were days this winter it was so cold at Copper Mountain that I thought my butt was going to fall off while skiing!
  2. Hi Alyssa - I live in Denver, but my parents live in Boulder and my sister lived there for years. Although Boulder can be called "hippie", it can also be called "yuppie"! There are lots of young families and it's quite pricey to actually live IN Boulder. But, that said, it's a beautiful town, set right against the foothills. The hiking, particularly at Chautauqua park, is amazing! There are lots of restaurants, a great farmer's market, lots of dogs, and DEFINITELY lots of outdoor activities - biking, hiking, rock climbing, running, you name it - it's there! And like someone else said, the University provides lots of culture and entertainment. I really don't think it's that cold here in winter - but I moved here from Boston, so the lack of humidity makes a huge difference! Some days will be cold in the winter and you'll get a couple of feet of snow at a time, but it generally melts within 2-4 days and it'll be 60-70 degrees for a couple of days. I found last winter completely painless...though 06-07 winter was a different story. Boulder is pretty liberal, so if you are conservative, I may not suggest Boulder for you. Colorado Springs, on the other hand, is also in the foothills (about an hour south of Denver), but tends to lean further right. It all depends on your political opinion! That said, Denver is hosting the DNC in August...
  3. Thanks! I appreciate the info. I will see if I can find anything on her in Sarasota...

Unfortunately, I already bought a bunch of little short juice glasses from Crate and Barrel (similar to these, but they were $.50 each! I couldn't pass up that deal... http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family...1&SearchPage=1 I think I will put some sort of transparent paper or fabric around them so the light can come through but they don't just look like plain glass with a light in them. Maybe add some sand? I don't know. I'm trying to incorporate the Water Pearls into the middle centerpiece of each table, with 3-4 glasses/candles around that in a circle. *shrug* We'll see! What else are you putting with the candles? Are they part of a centerpiece on the reception tables?

Amazon.com: Submersible FloraLytes - White (Pack of 10): Everything Else Search Amazon.com for "submersible floralytes". I think that's the major brand for this type of light. You can also get ones that scroll through several colors. The lights also look great with these: Decor N More Water Pearls Hard to tell on the website what they actually are, but basically they start as little hard beads (think caviar-size), and when you add water they expand to be almost the size of small marbles! They're sort of a stiff gel ball. You can put them in vases with water/flowers or even alone in a small fishbowl with a couple of LED lights - they look great! They reflect a lot of light and sort of glow, so they'd be great to add lighting to a night reception. I have a friend who owns an import/export home decor company, so he gave me samples of the Water Pearls (and LED lights) to try. Very cool. And since they're so tiny to start, they're easy to transport! Sorry this got so long - good luck! I'll try to post a picture of the lights with the Water Pearls soon - just need to find my card reader...!

Our location is also going to be very breezy, so I am also planning to use the battery operated votives with LED lights. I just want to be able to light them and forget about them... Plus, some LED varieties are waterproof, so you can submerge them in water with flowers, float them on something in the pool, etc.
  7. We are getting married May 24, 2009 in St Thomas, USVI... it seems so far away but I know it'll come up quick! Glad to see there are so many other Memorial Day Weekend brides
  8. My FI is also going the route of white cotton shirt and khaki/linen pants. He was ecstatic that he wouldn't have to wear a tux in 85+ degree weather!
  9. Hi all - Is anyone familiar with Ashley Photography (Ashley Armitage) on St Thomas? I love her photojournalism style (see her wedding photos here: Ashley Photography - Weddings), but I can't find any reviews on her! I did a search on here, but nothing came up for her (I apologize if I missed a thread on her! Hard when you're searching for just "ashley" and "photography"!). She's on the pricey end of photographers that I've found on St Thomas and I don't believe she works with any of the WCs there - but I could be wrong. So, has anyone worked with her or know anyone who has? Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!! Anaiah
  10. What a perfect song for a beach wedding! I love it
  11. Thanks everyone - I appreciate the warm welcome!
  12. Hi everyone! First off, my name is Anaiah and my fiance' is Matt. We live in Denver, CO and got engaged two weeks ago. We are planning our wedding for May 24, 2009 in St Thomas, USVI! We love St Thomas and luckily Matt's parents live there, so the wedding will take place on the deck of their house (yay for no site fee!). I am so excited to discover the wealth of information on this board - you all seem so helpful!
