We originally wanted the mariachi band right after the ceremony but our friend is playing the bagpipes for our recessional so she said why don't you have him play and then take picts with family & friends so our guests and us are not missing the band. Then have dinner and then have the band play after dinner, so pretty much we moved the cocktail hour til after dinner. We also were able to book our wedding before we booked our trip. We org. contacted the resort in March for a Feb wedding but they said they were not booking that far out yet and we had to get back to them at the end of April or early May. Awesome thank you! I was nervous about giving people a timeline when we can't even really confirm the time etc until we get there. That makes more sense that we would give it to them once we get there and everything is worked out...

Yeah, that's all I did too, they just asked me to forward our booking numbers etc once it was all set in stone. I'm sure it will all work out!

Hey I was just wondering if the wedding coordinator gave you your timeline, or did you have to ask her for one? I was about to email Jazmin to ask her about a timeline for the big day but I don't want to bug her if she will give me one closer to the date anyways...

I'm a little frustrated because I can't reserve a date until I book my trip, but no tour operators have prices yet for November 2009 (except Sunquest who just relaeased prices a couple of days ago), so I can't book my trip. I wanted to have this booked back in December, but now it is looking like it will be February. Was anyone able to reserve a date without booking their trip first? Also, to those who recently got married, did you and your husband get the gold wristbands? What exactly did those wristbands entitle you to? Hi there I was just wondering if Paloma was the one who told you that you can't book anything for the wedding until you have booked your trip? I booked my wedding date in March of 2008 for April of 2009, and this was before we were able to book flights or anything. It was all booked and confirmed before we had done anything with our TA....maybe because we did it so far in advance? It just seems strange because she never once asked me for a deposit or anything, she only asked that we forward our booking information once our TA was able to set everything up....maybe try talking to Paloma if you havn't already? She was really great, very helpful and quick to reply to all my questions Good luck! Lindsay
  5. Thanks everyone for the responnses! I have decided I am going to stick with my original colour choice and go with this really cute Mori Lee halter dress. The girls tried it on and liked it, but one of them felt like she looked really fat in it (which she didn't!). I think it was just that the dress was too small and didn't sit properly on her, so some of the seams were a bit off. Anyways, thanks again for all the suggestions!
  6. Hello, So, I had decided to let my BM's pick their own dresses because I was trying to be nice and I wanted them to find a dress they really liked, and they picked a After Six dress (which I love!) but it doesn't come in my main color - a bright turquoise. My accent color is a pale beigy/sandy color, which I don't think would look good as a dress color - what colors do you guys think would go well with a bright turquoise blue? The only other blue shade I like that the dress comes in is a bright sapphire blue. My other alternative is to change my colors since I haven't actually bought any decorations or anything yet.....
  7. Hello I am also getting married at this resort in April of 2009, and I'm staying on the Tulum side. I was told by both Paloma and Jazmin that you must get married on the side where you are staying. I really didn't press the issue though, so they may be able to make an exception for you, it can't hurt to ask! Good luck!
  8. Wow, thank you so much for all the responses, you guys have really made me feel better about this whole thing . We actually got our new quote, and it is only $1449 + tax, so it isn't as bad as I thought it was going to be :S. Now we'll just have to sit back and see what happens!!
  9. Hello everyone This post is partially to vent, but also partially to get an idea of what people are paying for an all-inclusive week in Mexico - I've done a bit of searching and I've seen a lot of different prices mentioned by everyone in the forum. My question is: does 1350 to 1500 + taxes seem like too much to ask people to pay? We are going to the Gran Bahia Principe Tulum resort, in April of 2009. Our original quote from the TA was 1350 + tax, and our deposit deadline was August 31st, 2008. We started to get deposits together last week, and now all of the sudden the plane is full and we have to get a new quote (or move our wedding)....I started stressing big time over this because with the new fuel surcharge I was worried the price would soar. But I looked online and we can get a deal right now for 1500 + tax, so I'm assuming for a group it may be a bit lower. So, I'm thinking the final price may be about $100 dollars more than originally planned. So we start telling people this, to give them the heads up about a new quote, and they all start freaking out on us! I realized that some people would have a set budget in mind, and unfortunatley not everyone can make it, but we are getting some pretty nasty attitude from our family and friends, like this is all our fault....I know we could have gotten deposits together sooner, but we never imagined the plane would be full 10 months ahead of time Now we are getting so much flack I feel really discouraged and want to call the whole thing off, and just get married here. I really don't know what to do, I know the price increase is disappointing, but we are getting criticism to the point of being personally attacked I really didn't think a max price of $1500 was all that bad, but maybe i'm just way off here?
  10. I sent mine about a year in advance....people were really appreciative of the big head's up haha!
  11. Thanks for the tip! Is there someone is particular I should be asking, or just anyone? Sorry, I'm totally new here, or to any forum really....I'm learning as I go
  12. Hey guys, Thanks for your replies! I do have a WC at the resort I can use, but so far she hasn't responded to me lol....apparently this is normal for Jazmin (the WC on the Tulum side) but it still stresses me out big time. I know April is a busy time for weddings, and I'm anxious about getting all the things I really want, especially since they have more than 1 wedding per day :S.
  13. Hello everyone! I was hoping to get some advice on whether or not using a wedding planner is necessary....I am getting married next April at the Gran Bahia Principe Tulum and we have started the planning process. We already have a TA, but I met with another TA/destination wedding planner to ask some questions and see if maybe hiring her was a better way to go. I was wondering if anyone else has hired a planner, and if so was it worth it? I'm asking mainly because we really want to do the private outdoor poolside reception, and the cost of hiring the planner would pretty much cover the cost of the private reception! I'm getting worried I won't be able to handle all the planning on my own, especially since I've never been to this resort before. I know there are lots of GBP brides out there, did any of you use one, or did you find it was ok doing it yourself? Thanks a bunch!
  14. I just got confirmation for my wedding date at Tulum, April 29th, 2009! I'm soo excited!!! AND I found the perfect dress yesterday, it's been a good wekk lol!
  15. Thanks for all the reply's, I appreciate it! I know May is really hot, but I was told it cools down enough in the evening that I could probably get a way with the more traditional dress (we are hoping to have our ceremony a bit later, i don't want the guests all passing out from the heat :S). I do like the idea of having the traditional dress for the ceremony, then changing into a lighter one for the dinner/reception (although my fiance probably won't think so lol) I don't have any pictures of it yet, but I will see if I can find it online somewhere
  16. Hello I am getting married next May in the Mayan Riviera and I am trying to decide on what style of dress to get. I originally was looking for something very light and flowy (which seems to be what most girls go for in the tropical climate) but I have fallen in love with this big princessy dress and I am worried it will be too much in the heat I have seen a few girls post dresses that were more traditional and I was hoping to get some feedback from you guys on how it went, if the dress was too hot etc? I am planning on getting married around 5pm, so hopefully the heat will have died down a little, but I'm still a bit worried If anyone cares to share their experience, I would be very very grateful!! thanks!
