  1. I have a colleague who got married there and loved it -- but money was certainly never an issue for him and his wife. I'm getting married on the beach behind the Jekyll Island Convention Center and then having the reception in the Convention Center. It is much more affordable -- and fits better in my budget. Good luck!
  2. I think I'd be broke if I had to buy a drink for anyone who notices that it is spelled wrong! I am finding it very amusing -- if only because I've shown so many people who didn't notice either. Oh well. I can cut the top part of the post cards off -- it was just sky and the misspelling -- so I am thinking of what I can do with them. Maybe hole punch them and make them label/tags for the OOT bags. And I'm definitely having people proofread my next attempt!
  3. I know. And I have PLENTY of time to reorder them!
  4. One of what I am sure will be many funny/frustrating wedding planning moments: Last night I had an old friend from Ireland over for dinner -- he was travelling through the states and just in town for a bit so it was great to catch up. Since I'm so excited about wedding planning-- I wanted to show him stuff about the wedding. I had made postcards for the OOT bags for folks and the picture on the front is an image I shot at one of the local beaches on the island. Then in the upper corner, it says the name of the island and the month, year of the wedding. He looks at it and says "what language is september in?" -- and he's dead serious, not realizing that it isn't written in a foreign language -- it's is JUST MISSPELLED! Opps. Apparently, I'm getting married in Sepetember 2009 and I have 100 postcards to prove it. Eek. Luckily I only paid for shipping (I think it was about $10) so it's not the end of the world. Just a silly, stupid little mistake. Oh well. At least he caught them before I put them in the OOT bags! Time to re-order!
  5. I'm coming to this late -- but wanted to echo what someone else said earlier about getting someone to donate vacation hours to you. I know that around here when police or firefighters get injured others in the department can donate sick time to them to help get them through. I would imagine that most/many departments have these procedures in place. If you have some really good friends that you work with that would be willing to give you a day each (maybe as a wedding present), I wonder if your Cheif would go along with it? Just a thought. I also agree with those who said that they shouldn't be able to hold up a decision on your time off request to see how your back pans out.
  6. Thanks, guys -- that's a great idea. Thanks for the input. The picture is one I took there a couple of years ago and we used it to make postcards on Vistaprint as well.
  7. We want to try to make our wedding unique by adding those "little extras" that make everyone feel loved. To start, we decided to try to make asking our wedding party special. For the girls-- We purchased black pearl earrings ($5 at the farmer's market) and created cards where the earings were the center of the flower. The earrings are for the girls to wear on our wedding day (if they don't lose them first)! http://i324.photobucket.com/albums/k...bridesmaid.jpg For the guys-- We are still in the process of making these, but are planning to put the picture below in a frame that has starfish up the side (we got them at the Christmas Tree shop for $4). As recommended, I'm planning to personalize each of these with their names. http://i324.photobucket.com/albums/k.../groomsmen.jpg For the flowergirl -- We found a sale on beachbuckets -- which are going to be used at the OOT bags as well. If I remember correctly they were 99 cents each at Party Depot. We purchased big ones to use as centerpieces -- my mom's friend is planning to paint beach scenes on them for us. http://i324.photobucket.com/albums/k...achbuckets.jpg The Flowergirl will carry one down the aisle, and I paint penned one to ask her to be the flowergirl and filled it with fake flower petals. I also gave her a giant fake pink diamond ring. The picture of the bucket is on my home computer, but here is a picture of Abby playing with the flowers. http://i324.photobucket.com/albums/k...ng/abigail.jpg So far, we've asked the flowergirl and most of the bridesmaids. We still have to finish the "ask gift for the groomsmen" and send them to each of them. Hopefully they will all say yes!
  8. We still have ages before our big day, but slowly we are starting to whittle away all the various items on our to-do list. I'm hoping to use this space as a way to keep myself organized and sane through this process. We're having fun planning everything now -- and I hope that it stays that way. Wedding details: Date: 09-26-09 Location: Jekyll Island, GA Ceremony: Beach Decks behind the Convention Center Reception: Atlantic Hall at the Convention Center Colors: Black, Silver and hotpink Theme: Starfish/Beach More to come...
  9. I'm struggling with coming up with the right wording to ask the groomsmen to be part of our wedding. We've purchased white picture frames that have starfish up one side which we are planning to use to ask them -- but the workding seems contrived. I'm hoping you all might be able to provide some feedback -- any suggestions to make it seem less stiff? (I'm posting a picture, but have no idea how this actually works, so fingers crossed that it shows up!)
  10. Thanks for the tip. The staff at the store that I went to were miserable. They had a sign up that said "10 for a penny, each one after that 10 cents." I thought I had struck gold and picked out all the ones I needed -- got the counter only to be told rudely that there was a limit of 2. Huh, that wasn't what the sign said. Had the staff been polite, I might have let it slide, but since they were horribly mean, I fought and won. I ended up getting 20 of them for $1.24.
  11. Fabulous idea -- and the saying is adorable. You're guests are sure to love them!
  12. NM. I found the information I was looking for -- if anyone else had the same questions, it is all answered here: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t11197
  13. If anyone is planning to give bubbles to their guests for the ceremony (we are planning to have bubbles on everyone's chairs so they can blow bubbles while we are walking down the aisle) -- AC Moore currently has 8oz bubbles on sale for 39 cents. Along the same lines -- I'm hoping to make some labels for them. Does anyone have any links to cute wording for bubble labels? Thanks for your help!
  14. Thanks for the heads up on the first aid kits at Target. FI and I went this weekend and wiped out their supply. They were still 97 cents just like you said -- and the Target staff was very helpful and even went into the store room and got more for us. Thanks, again!
  15. This might be a silly question -- but could someone point me in the direction of information on the point system? I see the number of points you earn at the bottomfor thread views and posts -- but how many points do you need to be able to download templates and what else are points used for? I'm trying to get myself oriented here, so any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  16. These are great -- thanks for sharing the templates. Also, looks like your big day is tomorrow -- best wishes for an amazing day.
  17. Thank you for all the kind welcome messages.
  18. Hi Everyone: As you can see by the title, I'm new around here -- I stumbled across this amazing resource while looking for DIY first aid kits (Morgan's are amazing!). I'm glad I've got a while before my wedding (09/26/09) -- because it's clear from these forums that I've got a lot of work in my future! I'm excited to learn from you all -- this website is a wealth of creative ideas and I'm grateful that everyone is willing to share! Meghan 09/26/09 Jekyll Island, GA
